The extended deadline for nominations is October 14, 2020. ? The awards recognize excellence in wood design, engineering, and construction, as well as innovative projects that showcase attributes of wood such as strength, beauty, versatility, cost effectiveness, and sustainability. Projects may be submitted in the following 9 categories:
? Special consideration will be given to recently completed buildings, projects that utilize wood as a dominant structural element, and designs that exemplify new opportunities for wood construction. ? See all past winners in our gallery or watch the 2020 wood design awards video.? You can also follow us on Instagram for award photos and updates. Deadline and Eligibility Award submissions must be received by midnight PT on October 14, 2020. There are no nomination fees and multiple submissions are encouraged. To be eligible, projects and nominated firms must be located in the US and projects must be fully constructed by the original deadline of September 30, 2020. With the exception of the Durability & Adaptability of Wood Structures category, Wood Design Awards apply to new construction only, which includes significant additions. Structures other than buildings are not eligible. Complete details and nomination materials are available at http://www.woodworks.org/wood-design-awards/nominate. NEXT WEBINAR - August 12: Sound Solutions: Designing for Acoustics in Wood Structures Noise control in buildings such as apartments, schools, and offices plays an important role in tenant satisfaction. Selecting an effective wall or floor/ceiling assembly is important-and necessary for proper design-but it's just one of several considerations. Covering both light wood-frame and mass timber structures, this presentation will provide a top to bottom approach to achieving sound acoustical performance. Topics will include code requirements and owner expectations, tested assemblies vs. calculated performance, exterior noise, interior noise reverberation, structural and fire-resistance related components, detailing to avoid flanking paths, and installation best practices.

NEXT WEBINAR - JULY 8: Wood-over-Podium Construction: Navigating Codes and Detailing Assemblies Podium construction-also known as pedestal or platform construction-typically includes multiple stories of wood framing over another construction style. To leverage wood's cost efficiency, these types of buildings often maximize allowable building size limits with four or five stories of wood framing over one to three stories of steel or concrete. This webinar focuses on how to achieve maximum value with podium construction, while also covering a variety of wood-frame mid-rise building types. Through an overview of code provisions and associated design, detailing, and construction considerations, it is intended to give architects and engineers the knowledge to successfully integrate mid-rise wood buildings into their portfolios. Heights and areas will be discussed, including allowable increases, as will fire-resistive design, detailing for performance, fire-rated assemblies, and more.
