How does VolunteerLocal work?
Use VolunteerLocal to� easily recruit your volunteers online. Build the jobs and shifts you need filled, a short registration form, and click to "go live!" Your unique signup page URL is located under Events->Your Events.

Is it easy to get set-up?
Yes, creating your first event takes just a few minutes. Once you're live, you can share your sign-up page link through email, social media and on your website. Volunteer registrations will flow into your two-click report, and you can leverage our email and text communication platforms to send reminder emails and informational updates leading up to your event.

Can I try VolunteerLocal before paying?
Yes! Every new customer receives a free two-week trial. Once your trial has expired, nothing will be lost or deleted. The upgraded features will simply deactivate inside your account.

Building Jobs and Shifts is Easy

The jobs and shifts you build inside VolunteerLocal will populate at the top of your sign-up page. This means that when you "go live," your volunteers will be able to claim the shifts they want.

To get started, go to Events->Your Events and click the Jobs link on this page. Here, you can build jobs, write job descriptions, add locations and more. Follow the prompt at the bottom of this page to begin building shifts.

You can check your progress at anytime by opening your live page (or clicking the Offline Preview link) under Events->Your Events. This way, you can see what your volunteers will see when you're ready to share the sign-up page with them!

First Name, Last Name, T-Shirt Size...

When volunteers sign-up for your event, they'll need to answer a few questions about themselves. Most of our customers create fields like "First Name," "Last Name" and "T-Shirt Size" - but the sky is the limit, and this form is completely customizable.

Go to Events->Your Events->Volunteer Information to add unique, unlimited questions to your sign-up page.

You can run reports against this data anytime you'd like. For example, when you're ready to order t-shirts, simply export a list of all t-shirt sizes submitted by your volunteers!

Tired of Paper Waivers?

With VolunteerLocal, you can collect digital signatures from your volunteers when they register for your event. To add your waiver, go to Events->Your Events and click Disclaimer.

Copy-and-paste your waiver into the dialogue box on this page. Check the box to make all signatures required. You're done! Volunteers will now be prompted to sign the waiver at the bottom of your live page, like this:

Setting Up Your Confirmation Email

Levi, the confirmation email is the message that all your volunteers receive immediately after they've signed up for your event. There are two important things we think you should know about this mesage.

1. This email is the only automatic message that is generated within VolunteerLocal.

2. The confirmation email comes "from" you, not us. This means replies are routed right back to you! (We do our best to stay out of the way between you and your volunteers).

You can locate the confirmation email under Events->Your Events->Confirmation Settings:

This email is a terrific spot for critical event-day information, including where to check-in, what to wear, what to bring and where parking is located.

Send Messages to Your Volunteers

There are two ways to communicate with your volunteers inside VolunteerLocal: email and text messaging (SMS). Today, we'll cover email communication, our most popular feature included in the Discover Plan.

The broadcast communication tool is located under Volunteers->Communication (Email). Here, you can write reminder emails, event updates and a "thank you" message after the event is over. Under Recipients, you can send the message event-wide, to a specific job or even an individual shift within a job.

These emails can be further customized to include each volunteer's unique job and shift details, profile link and even their first and last names.

All you have to do is manually type the special tags (located underneath the dialogue box on the left-hand side of the page) inside the body of your message, like this:

Naturally, you can export your data from VolunteerLocal at anytime. This volunteer data belongs to you (not us!) and we'll never withhold it for any reason. You can export your data under Volunteers->Export.

On this page, use the checkboxes on the right to determine what you'd like your columns to be in the resulting export. In this way, you can create reports against any data you've collected from your volunteers throughout the sign-up process. Check the boxes under "Standard Fields" to include event information, like each volunteer's job name, shift time and waiver signature.
