Joshua Jay here. I’m writing about a trick that changed the course of my career, and my life.

My trick "Out of Sight” is my best-selling trick ever, and one of our company’s best-selling and most praised effects. I’m honored by this. I used it to fool Penn and Teller on their hit show Fool Us, and was then invited back to their stage in Vegas to close their show with it.

Now it’s on the market and can be the closer of your show too. It’s ENTIRELY self-working—not a single move in the entire trick. It comes with a special deck, DVD, and blindfold. In effect, a spectator’s thought-of card is the only card in a blank deck…that can be inspected!

Challenge: Can you figure this out?

Mickael Chatelain has a knack for creating?very fooling, easy to do magic. His latest creation, "Deal Not Deal" is a fantastic?prediction effect with three wonderful climaxes. It's so easy to do, you'll almost feel guilty when you are doing it. The outcome is always the same and it works with any currency (including plastic bills). Click below to watch the trailer.

Here is a summary of the effect: You deal through the cards, one at a time, claiming that you know?exactly?the card that the spectator will stop on. When they say stop, you mark the position with a bill (no - there is nothing hidden under the bill). You reach into your pocket and remove a prediction. It?perfectly matches?the card that the spectator stopped on.

But there's more...

To prove that you don't have multiple cards hidden about your person, you invite the spectator to turn over the bill. On the back, it reads: "I knew you'd choose the Six of Hearts".

To finish, you turn the rest of the cards over to reveal that they are all blank. It's a terrific ending to an already?baffling trick!

The trick resets in five seconds?and you can repeat it with different cards every time. It's self-working and comes ready to go out of the box.

The spectator does everything

Now he teaches one of his favorite techniques for the very first time. The Window Change is a breathtaking color change or card appearance on the top of the deck. It is, above all, a soft move, and the card seems to just melt into view. The move is difficult, but taught expertly and achievable to anyone willing to put in a couple hours of practice.

Cubist Art: A?Stunning Closer

There are several different products on the market that let you do a variety of match or solve effects with a cube. You''ve?probably got one or more of them.?

But, you''ve almost certainly not seen anything like this!?

On stage, there is a large object hidden under a red cloth. As you explain that you will reveal what''s underneath very soon, you introduce two Rubik''s Cubes. One is mixed up, and you explain that this is your prediction. It is left in full view the entire time. The other cube is solved, so you ask somebody to mix it up.

You then turn?to second participant and have them select a famous person (they choose Einstein).

Now comes the first "gasp" moment. You remove the cloth covering the mystery object to reveal that it is 100 cubes, all perfectly arranged to create an image of Albert Einsten! But, one cube is missing.

As you ask the spectator for the cube they mixed, the audience will race ahead of you. Even though the odds are astronomically small, you pop the cube into the hole to reveal that the participant mixed it into the exact position necessary to complete the picture.

As if the odds were not already slim enough... you still have one more stunning reveal to come. Drawing attention back to the "prediction cube" that you left on display at the beginning, you explain that there really was only one combination which was a perfect match. Removing the spectators mixed cube from the frame, you show that it perfectly matches your prediction on every side!

This is a reputation-making piece of magic and comes with our highest recommendation.?

This new gaff from Hondo?is so visual, so strange, and so seamless?that we wondered, "What''s the catch?" But here at Vanishing Inc. Magic, we put everything to the test before we promote it. This puzzling?mystery just got even better

Magic is often puzzling, but can puzzles be magical??"The Trapdoor Card" is a remarkable puzzle that has countless magical applications.?This topological effect allows you to manipulate paper in ways which seem completely impossible.

With?Machinations, Ben Harris builds upon this unusual and unbelievable puzzle developed by Martin Gardner and Bob Neale. The book is tactile. The props are part of the book, so you can start performing these paper thin miracles in real time.

In effect, you display a playing card (or piece of paper, or ticket, or anything similar) with a small door cut out just off-center. The spectator can then hold onto this tab as you fold around it and cause absolutely impossible and visual miracles happen. You can cause images to vanish, the paper to turn inside out or even make the entire shape change.

This gorgeous volume features 100 pages of detailed illustrations and instructions. Every effect is incredibly easy to perform and requires no practice.

Joshua Jay here. I hope you''re all staying safe in this strange period. One thing none of us expected was so much time away from performing. In that spirit, I''d like to make a suggestion: this is the perfect time to memorize a stack. I love memorized deck magic, and this Guide is for both memdeck users, and those who are finally ready to commit to memorizing a stack. I''ll say this: in a quarantine situation, you can easily memorize a stack in one week. You may never have this much time in one concentrated period again. So let''s get started!

For those who haven''t memorized a deck of cards, the first questions are:?Which stack? and How do I memorize the full deck?

There are now about a dozen prominent stacks that you can choose from, but the three that stand out above the rest, to me, are those of Juan Tamariz, Simon Aronson, and Woody Aragon.?

And regardless of which stack you use, these are three books you should own. Each one contains important foundational knowledge. That said, here''s my feeling:

Start with?Mnemonica?by Juan Tamariz. Even if you don''t memorize his stack, he offers all the basics and a great way to learn the stack.

Then go to?Bound to Please.?There is no finer writer in the genre than Simon, and he has created the most transformative memdeck effects across his books. In this one, you''ll learn the basics of his stack and some of the most interesting principles he''s developed.?

For a thoroughly modern stack and approach, Woody Aragon''s?Memorandum?is a breath of fresh air. You may not choose to learn his stack, but his thinking is what''s important here.?

How do I memorize the full stack??

My advice: just sit down and do it. I think the best way is to make flash cards out of a deck, by writing a card''s stack number on the back of each card. In this quarantine, you''ll have it down in a week!?

If you want assistance, there''s a book for that! The fantastic?The Memory Arts?is all about memorizing Aronson and Tamariz, and although it''s another book purchase, it''s a memory aid that our customers really love. What follows is not meant to be a complete list, or even a "best of" list, but rather a list that will surprise even my most advanced memdeck friends:

Temporarily Out of Order?is a book on a new stack by our friend Patrick Redford. The stack has many interesting features but garnered little fanfare when it was released. This is a sleeper, and you''ll enjoy it.

Not enough people understand the power of a marked, memorized deck, and to this end, we have two marked deck suggestions for you:

The Boris Wild Marked Deck, Phoenix Edition. This is a more subtle marking, but it takes a little time to get used to.

Standard Phoenix Marked Deck. The markings are clear and easy to read. Our favorite.

The Memorized Deck is a tool that opens up a whole new world of card magic. We hope you''ll take the time to make the plunge, or expand your horizons with these materials.
