College Financial Aid Planning and Filling Out the FAFSA

The Financial Planning Association is offering a free virtual presentation on the college financial aid process, with an emphasis on filling out the FAFSA. It is offered as part of MONEY MATTERS, a series of free financial literacy programs for the general public.

Let''s Talk About Healing Strategies:
Public Health Crisis, COVID-19 & Racism

This Virtual Conversation is sponsored by the Office of the Governor, the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) and the Department of Children and Families (DCF). The purpose is to engage in a dialogue on equity, develop recommendations for local and larger systems improvements, and to build and bridge community alliances.
The event will include conversation starters by Monique Sanders (Spoken Word Artist), Kelvin Young (CHW and Sound Healer), and virtual breakout rooms facilitated by community members, faith-based leaders, and DMHAS/DCF staff.

Follow Up Debrief/Discussion
on Community Adverse Experiences Presentation by Olympia Della Flora

On October 29, Assistant Superintendent of Stamford Public Schools, Olympia Della Flora, led an important discussion on Community Adverse Experiences and how children of color absorb what they witness in their neighborhoods and society. More than 100 people attended!
Join us this Friday at 11 am for a follow up debrief session, which gives attendees an opportunity to ask questions and reflect as a group on what they learned.

Join us for our second session in Stamford Cradle to Career''s Race and Equity Series, in partnership with Stamford Stands Against Racism and Domus Kids. Dr. Kenneth Hardy is the President of the Eikenberg Academy for Social Justice, Director of the Eikenberg Institute for Relationships, and Professor of Family Therapy at Drexel University. Dr. Hardy provides Diversity and Racial Sensitivity training and consultations to health, human service and education institutions.

United Way of Western Connecticut''s Stamford Day of Action for 2020 will be a Community Food Drive.
Food Pantries in Stamford desperately need our help. Unemployment, lost wages, and economic dislocation caused by the pandemic have greatly increased demand on our local food pantries.
You can donate nonperishable food items between 9 am and 3 pm at the First Presbyterian Church of Stamford on Saturday, November 4. To find out what kind of food items are needed, click here.

Join Family Centers the Vita Health and Wellness District and the Connecticut Data Collaborative (CTData) for a virtual community convening to celebrate successes, lessons learned, and outcomes from the Vita Community Learning Collaborative.
The Vita Community Learning Collaborative is a one-year partnership between Family Centers, the Vita Health and Wellness District, and CTData to tell the story of two programs: Parents as Co-Educators and Family First in Education. Through training and consultation, these programs have articulated their outcomes and streamlined data collection to better tell the story of their important work with families in Fairfield County.

The Stamford Food Collaborative''s Guide to Accessing Food in Stamford has been recently updated to include information about school meals during the "hybrid" schedule, as well as changes in hours for food pantries and other food providers as a result of COVID-19.
