Discover Why A Learning Content Strategy is Essential
View this email as a web page
The following is a message from one of The Learning Guild''s valued sponsors.
Compliance is one of the most important components of learning. Often, it impacts all employees; it’s typically one of the first introductions new employees get to a company; and it’s vital in preventing lawsuits, fines, inefficiencies and more.
In fact, a recent study by research and analyst firm Brandon Hall Group found that compliance-related training accounted for roughly 18% of survey respondents'' entire L&D budgets. That’s a significant number. Yet, compliance training is frequently neglected.
So how can you better align your focus on compliance with its share of the budget? Find out in Four Things that Keep CLOs Up at Night: Why A Learning Content Strategy is Essential, co-developed by Copyright Clearance Center (CCC) and Brandon Hall Group.
We hope you find some valuable insights in the eBook. Please feel free to share it with your colleagues.
Thanks,
The CCC Team

New Report-L&D Employment and Pay: 2020 Status
View this email in your browser
How Does Your Salary Stack Up?
Hi Oliver,
Every year, The Learning Guild surveys its members to learn about employment-related topics. This year, we were especially interested to see how the unusual circumstances of COVID-19 could have impacted respondents' salaries, bonuses, and intent to change jobs.
In L&D Employment and Pay: 2020 Status, we take a closer look at the 678 survey responses collected in a survey from November 2020 to see how this past year has changed employment-related topics, such as:
Base pay: The status of current salaries for learning professionals in 2020
Bonuses: How bonuses have or are expected to be impacted
Job titles and roles: Intent of members within the L&D field to change jobs
Here''s a Sneak Peek:
2020 Base Pay: Status
"Nearly 42% of respondents said their base pay had increased in 2020 while almost exactly the same number said their pay was unchanged. 77 people-11.4%-said their pay had decreased. When later asked whether people had anything to add, one respondent said they were working on a master's degree and expected a pay raise following completion of that."
I hope you find this research report helpful as you continue to grow professionally in the new year.
Sincerely,
Jane Bozarth Director of Research

Research Report-A Look at Learning Experience Design

Exceed Learning Expectations with LxD
Learning experience design (LxD) is not only about creating content, but crafting personalized journeys that address issues of learner motivation, environments, and available resources. In Less Content, More Learner: An Overview of Learning Experience Design, Jane Bozarth explains how LxD takes a longer and more iterative view than traditional instructional design approaches, and how it helps overcome the longstanding problem of learning being perceived as a process rather than an event.
Here's a look at what this research report includes:
Suggestions for mapping learner experiences and journeys
Key concepts of LxD, including using empathy to develop learner personas and experience maps
A look at how LxD helps overcome the challenge of learning being perceived as a process rather than an event
And more!
Download this research report now and see how you can use LxD in your learning solutions to boost learner confidence and motivation.
Here''s a Sneak Peek
Key Concepts: Empathy
"Perhaps the hallmark element of LxD (and design thinking) is the importance of empathy; that is, viewing things from a users' point of view. It is through use of empathy that the experience is designed to provide an optimal experience for the user, with decisions made according to their needs and skills rather than the preferences of a designer."

Research Report-Psychological Safety
View this email in your browser
Hi Oliver,
Psychological safety is tied to many factors affecting job performance, among them productivity, engagement, willingness to share information, and comfort with disclosing mistakes and asking for help. Interest in the importance of psychological safety in learning has spiked this year, with more people working remotely and participating in virtual-only learning experiences, and others confronted with more dangerous physical work environments.
Our new research report, Psychological Safety: Critical for Learning?, looks at the role of psychological safety in learning and factors that contribute-or detract-from it.
Key areas covered in this report include:
Simulations
Facilitator skills
Feedback
Team and collaborative work
Employee engagement
Download your free copy now and learn how to support learners at all levels with a psychologically safe work environment.
Here''s a Sneak Peek:
What Is Psychological Safety?
"Psychological safety involves trust and open communication, which in turn supports development of relationships and collaborative work, and, ultimately, learning to enact that work. In a psychologically safe environment one feels comfortable expressing and being themselves, sharing concerns, asking questions, and making errors without fear of being ridiculed or shamed."
We hope you find this research report resourceful!

Keep Your Digital Strategies Productive
Are your employees suffering from "virtual content fatigue?" Is this digital L&D landscape helping or hurting your organization? A rapid shift to the virtual space paired with a strong reliance on online libraries have not only left both leaders and learners with content fatigue, but has also created a disconnect between learning professionals and technology.
Watch the on-demand webinar, Preventing the Organizational Digital Divide, to gain insights from Shannon Tipton, who possesses 15 years of corporate learning leadership experience. Shannon will delve into why employees' varying technical skill levels could be delaying your organization's productivity.
Key points discussed in this on-demand session include:
Whether technology is bringing us together or driving us apart
How L&D can help bridge this disconnect
How to focus on digital innovation and collaboration
How we can move forward in the new normal of a digital L&D landscape

Your Stories: Learn from Real Experiences
At the start of May, we invited the DevLearn community to participate in a Learning Guild survey we conducted to gather stories about what people have learned while working during this difficult time. The response was overwhelming! Within a week, 200 people shared insights and stories of teamwork, connection, resilience, triumph, struggle, and more.
We received such a wide range of stories that we decided to create this blog series, Your Stories, to help us learn from each other's experiences and shape what's next for learning. We''re excited to share the first article with you today!

Rethink What L&D Can Be
Hi Oliver,
Given that 2020 has brought on new challenges in L&D, we now have the opportunity to adapt our strategies to a new playing field. Looking at current learning trends and conceptualizing how they fit into our work will enable us to make smarter decisions for both our learners and organizations. This will help us achieve real results rather than reaching for what is new and shiny.
At the Understanding Learning Trends Online Conference, you'll attend eight sessions led by industry experts as they discuss today's most popular and effective learning tools, technologies, and techniques. You're sure to walk away with the knowledge you need to apply these trends and fresh insight into how each affects the work you do now and in the future.
Online Networking Opportunity
In between sessions, you'll have the opportunity to extend the conversation in the Chat Lounge, where speakers and attendees can connect on a peer-to-peer level to ask questions and go more in-depth on session topics.

Takeaways For Your #TuesdayThoughts
There are so many great lessons coming out of Learning 2020! Here are some of the takeaways from our sessions yesterday:
Offer your loyalty to good leaders, not companies.
-Frank Nguyen
Watch, listen, empathize with learners. Take learners on the journey with you.
-Sravani Tammiraaju
If you have 6 weeks for an R&I project to vet new tech trends, that''s 6 weeks of insights that you didn''t have before. So spend this time imaging, envisioning, learning, and sharing.
-John Sangimino & Jake Gittleson
Play in learning: games aren't linear, but neither is learning,
-Karl Kapp
Reimagining L&D needs to include agency, community, and impact measurement. Leverage the diverse experiences of people to help them think differently. Learning happens everywhere and L&D needs to reimagine with this in mind.
-Gloria Tam, Phil Komarny, Rob Garris, & Richard Olson
Diversity is being invited to the party, inclusion is being asked to dance.

L&D Industry: Before, During, and After COVID-19
View this email in your browser
Hi Oliver,
We've all experienced changes in our daily life from COVID-19 but how has the pandemic affected the L&D industry as a whole?
In March and June of 2020, we reached out to learning professionals about how their work was being affected by the global COVID-19 pandemic and asked what their predictions were for the future of the L&D industry. In this month's research report, COVID-19 and L&D: Present and Future, Megan Torrance analyzes the results of these two surveys.
Topics covered in this report include:
How training has been, is, and will be delivered
A look at the current and future states of eLearning and performance support
An overview of the L&D industry's rapid shift from in-person to online
Projections on how L&D teams will continue to adapt and change
Additional survey information including methodology, demographics, and individual responses
And more!
Download your copy of this research report now to gain insight into the state of the L&D industry before, during, and after the global COVID-19 pandemic.
Here''s a Sneak Peek:
March 2020 survey: Business Impact
"Not surprisingly, a dramatic impact to L&D practice was the abrupt shift to online delivery of face-to-face (f2f) courses and other learning experiences, with 86 percent of respondents saying at least one or more events had or were moving to an online format. While some comments expressed concern that the move to online was too fast and would result in mediocre work, others saw a silver lining."

Maximize Return on L&D Investments
L&D is doing well in the new normal. We have rapidly responded to changes in the post-pandemic world. We have digitized thousands of hours of offline content. Moved from classroom to virtual within months. But can we sustain it? Not if we continue running things as we always have. New realities call for newer strategies and bold decision-making.
Download this free handbook to get a look at the big picture of post-COVID 19 L&D and learn how you can continue with your team's transition for the long haul by reducing redundancy, compliance risks, fatigue, and cost of your L&D operations. One thing is all you need to change.

Share Your Experience
This past March, we conducted a survey to gain insight into how organizations were facing new challenges caused by the global COVID-19 pandemic and shared the results in this article. To follow up, we would like to learn more about how your work has continued to be impacted by the pandemic, how your organization has been able to respond, and what you predict for the future.
Please take this survey and share your professional experience. The results will be shared in an upcoming research report that will highlight how businesses are coping with COVID-19 and provide you with ideas you can use in your own organization.
If you have already taken the survey, thank you for your participation.

Training managers continually feel pressure to do more with less - to achieve ever-more impactful results without corresponding increases to budgets. Fortunately, changing workforce dynamics have created new opportunities for L&D teams to identify what content, format, and delivery will best help their organizations' employees to learn and succeed.
In this webinar, we'll investigate the top challenges training managers are dealing with, and how to optimize an internal video library to help relieve some pressure.
We'll also examine:
Which training content and format types that perform best
How to implement an "agile" approach to creating and modifying training videos
How analytics can be the key to helping improve training content while providing ROI numbers to management

Out with LMS - in with Learning Platforms!
For most organizations, the LMS is only one component of the learning and development tech stack. And only one piece of the entire employee experience. During tomorrow''s webinar, Matthew Brown, VP of Learning and Brand Success at Schoox, will explore:
Why we need to think "Learning Platform" from here on out.
The challenges learning teams face when using traditional learning management systems.
Signs your technology partner may not be the right one.
How to build a procurement plan that identifies business objectives, clarifies pain points, and articulates benefits to stakeholders beyond L&D.
If you are interested in this webinar but are unable to attend tomorrow, you can register for free anyway and we will send you the session recording and handouts after the event.

Leadership needs to function at every level. Leaders need to understand the entire system.
-Kelly Leonard
Strive for competency and remember, knowledge is most valuable at the point of application.
-Mark Jack Smith & Manoj Kulkarni
You can''t have a strong learning culture without trust.
-Nigel Paine
Understanding who your data stakeholders are, is critical for solving business challenges when applying the data analytics process.

Enhance Your Training with Video Libraries
Join Us for This Complimentary Webinar
Thursday, June 4, 2020, 11 AM PST/ 2 PM EST
Training managers continually feel pressure to do more with less - to achieve ever-more impactful results without corresponding increases to budgets. Fortunately, changing workforce dynamics have created new opportunities for L&D teams to identify what content, format, and delivery will best help their organizations' employees to learn and succeed.
In this webinar, we'll investigate the top challenges training managers are dealing with, and how to optimize an internal video library to help relieve some pressure.
We'll also examine:
Which training content and format types perform best
How to implement an "agile" approach to creating and modifying training videos
How analytics can be the key to improving training content, while providing ROI numbers to management
P.S. Bonus resources are available for webinar participants:
1. Complimentary Panopto Basic membership - start recording your videos for free!
2. The valuable whitepaper: 14 Ways to Use Video for Formal and Informal Employee Training. Click here for more details!

Why You Shouldn''t Fear Failure
Hi Oliver,
Learning from failure is a practice many of us are familiar with and support. However, there's an important concept that oftentimes gets overlooked: Being proactive about learning from failure.
In Failing Forward: Instructional Design in the Trenches, we asked nine instructional designers who are well-known within the industry to share their experiences with failure and how their mistakes impacted them personally and professionally.
Each story contains:
Details of the designers' missteps
Reflections made on what went wrong
How each mistake improved the designer's practice for the future
Download now to gain new insight on how our failures might actually be the learning opportunities we need to become better.
We hope you find this eBook inspiring as you continue to learn and grow in your own career.
Sincerely, The Learning Guild Team

Preventing the Organizational Digital Divide
Join Us for This Complimentary Webinar
Wednesday, November 11, 2020, 10 AM PST/ 1 PM EST
While L&D leaders met the urgent need to move more into a digital environment during the pandemic, some have thrived, but others have dived. Rapid conversions from the classroom to virtual and reliance on vast online libraries have left both learning leaders and learners with a severe case of content fatigue at best, and at worse on the brink of opening up a major digital divide. How can L&D partner with the business to prevent a collapse of organizational social learning structures, focus on innovation and collaboration to prevent a digital divide? How can L&D step up to the plate and add value?
In this session, we will discuss how the divide is present in different technical skill levels of employees and how this divide may be the main reason for slowed or delayed productivity or upskilling. Here we will examine:
Is technology bringing us together or driving us apart?
How to focus on digital innovation and collaboration
How does L&D help bridge the divide while partnering with the business?
If you are interested in this webinar but are unable to attend on November 11, you can register for free anyway and we will send you the session recording and handouts after the event.

Why virtual reality? Ultrasound technology is a valuable part of patient care, however, purchasing enough machines for all students to practice is not realistic, nor scalable for growing student populations. By using the most realistic simulations through immersive training, learners can efficiently bridge the gap between knowledge and hands-on practice.
In this interactive webinar, we'll explore how you can use virtual reality to provide your learners with a realistic training experience without blowing your budget. Jeff Gordon, Professor in Educational Informatics at Vanderbilt University, and John Blackmon, CTO of eLearning Brothers, will share how Vanderbilt University was able to use a virtual reality application to allow learners the ability to use an actual ultrasound machine with increased efficiency, safety, and knowledge in ultrasound interpretation.
During this session, you will explore:
What subject matter lends itself to development in a VR environment
The value VR offers over other eLearning methodologies
Common issues when creating content for VR
And more!
