Patrons must feel safe when returning to events
Google Trends reports that searches for the term, "health" have grown by 14,000%. Similar spikes occurred for "safety" and "social distancing". Such is the state of our world today.
Here at ThunderTix, we recognize that we can play a role in helping patrons feel safe in returning to their beloved events, so we''ve worked to add many important safety features to help you reopen.
In this newsletter, we''ll recap the resources we''re providing to help customers feel safe and to also help our theatres, music halls, magic shows, and schools survive to fight another day. And another. Until our world returns to normalcy.

Prevent crowded lobbies with planned arrival times
Crowded lobbies and common areas make social distancing impossible and are a concern to patrons, staff, and volunteers. One way to create adequate and safe social distance is to limit the number of entrants at any time.
With our newest feature, traffic flow control with ingress planning, you create timed entries with limited availability. For example, if you have an 8:00 p.m. show, you might begin allowing groups of patrons in starting at 7:15, then again every 10 minutes. Ushers can help patrons get seated before turning to the next group ready for admittance, and awaiting patrons can safely congregate in larger spaces out-of-doors. Read more.
Hybrid events and video integration
Hybrid events allow you to serve both in-person, traditional audiences, and viewers watching safely from home. If you''re planning on a hybrid event, don''t forget to enable it as a "virtual" event. We''ll provide clear indicators so patrons can choose the viewing option that works best for them. We offer three different options for delivering your virtual event.
Use our Zapier integration to connect ThunderTix to Zoom webinars. Zoom creates each customer as a Zoom "registrant". Automated emails will be sent to all paid attendees with the correct link preventing unauthorized sharing of the virtual event to non-registrants.
Alternatively, try our own built-in video (beta) for small audiences. It''s free, and we''ll handle everything automatically. Read more.
Contactless payments for on-site processing
Contactless payments allow customers to purchase tickets or concessions by inserting or "tapping" credit cards with a touchless experience that keeps everyone safe. Also included with the contactless terminal is support for Apple Pay and Google Pay.
Available only to Stripe users at this time, we use Stripe''s Verifone P400 terminal or their tiny bluetooth BPOS Chipper. We''ll securely pass credit card and payment data to Stripe for safer processing with increased security. (As an added bonus, chip/tap payments receive a discounted rate for on-site processing.)
For an even safer experience for customers and staff, consider selling food and beverage preorders using our Products module. Provide the options during the purchase process and have your customers'' options ready to hand out as they arrive. Read more.
Help patrons return with automated social distancing
Today, patrons (especially mature audiences) may be uneasy returning to events. Reserved seating with social distancing puts patrons at ease by allowing them to visualize the seating and space without questions. We have a few great time-saving options for reserved seating to help you maximize revenue and for your patrons to stay safe.
For table seating, we can prevent lost revenue from unused seats by requiring all seats at a table to be purchased at once. For example, if a two people attempt to purchase a 4-top, we''ll automatically sell all four seats. Smaller parties may then look for more appropriate table availability.
As an alternative, we can block remaining seats at a table as purchases are made. In this case, we''d sell only two tickets, but preemptively block the remaining seats to prevent unfamiliar neighbors from being seated together.
Of course, for traditional row seating, our automatic social distancing will block seats as purchases are made. Choose whether you wish for us to block 1, 2, 3, or 4 adjacent seats, and we''ll remove those seats from sale immediately as your patrons check out. Read more.
