That’s why when you craft your message, you read it...rewrite...read...rewrite...read...rewrite...it’s an unending loop where you NEVER hit send.

It’s always three things. 

1. You can’t get your message right 
2. You don’t know if it’s okay to send it to your prospect
3. You’re not sure if it’s going to drive the results that you want from it 

The day ends unproductively without you ever sending anything to your prospects.

So you convince yourself that it’s just a one day delay. You’ll reach out to your prospect tomorrow, next week, next month, or maybe you’ll push it to the end of the year when you have more reviews and success stories.

What happens when you do that? 

They’ll be able to find another place to learn from. Boohoo.

The longer you delay, the smaller the possibility it is for you to convert them to paying clients. There is always a sense of urgency when it comes to introducing your courses to a market that doesn’t know who you are but are very likely to do business with you.

Now the Big Q: Then how do I approach my prospects so that I get my message across without sounding desperate?

• Talk about them. Even though you are introducing yourself as a thought leader with a course that they should try, it should not be about you. Talk about how it can solve their problems, answer their questions before they even ask, and help them get over the “I think it’s not for me” phase.
• Drop the formality. Your prospect won’t care about how well you constructed your sentence or how well your vocabulary is. Don’t forget that it is a one-on-one conversation. Keep it conversational and casual.
• Personalize! Again, one-on-one is the keyword here. You should know something about your prospect and personalize your message so that they’ll feel that you made it for them, that it’s not something you randomly sent to a hundred people. It’s not wrong to start with a templated message that you constructed using the two points above. However, see to it that you won’t start with Dear (comma) and then proceed to your message. That sounds like it came from a Nigerian Prince who is so kind, he’s giving you money. No one will message you back!

Craft your message in such a way that it’s for one specific person, addressing their needs and solving their problems while making sure that it’s from a human coming from a place of empathy.

Creating your message will really take time especially when at the end of your conversation you want to turn them from strangers to paying clients. You have to be ready with how they’re going to respond and you need to reply promptly.

You have to have a plan before sending your first message.

Quarantine storytime!

So a member of our team got these hair clippers to give their kiddos a quick haircut. 

Now the younger son went first, sat there, and behaved like a good soldier. But instead of the standard military cut, he got a full shave instead. 

And this was absolutely okay. He looked good. He had beautiful hazel eyes and it showed with all the hair out of the way. He was happy, mom (Rise To The Top teammate) was happy, dad said it was okay, mhmmm.

It was the older son’s turn.

This 5-year-old chatterbox didn’t sit still like his younger brother, No siree. He put up a fight with full pillow gear,  lightsabers, and all. And he had the dog by his side.

He didn’t want mom to touch his hair. And he kept screaming that mom wasn’t an expert because he only saw her do this once and he didn’t want his “luscious locks” (exact words) to be cut or even just touched by an amateur. 

This went on for 20 looooooong minutes until mom gave up.

Takeaway? 

The older son is like your audience.

They have to see to believe your claim. It’s easy to add “expert in this thing” on your bio but it takes a little bit more to prove it. And we’re not talking about result screenshots, reviews, and feedback only.

One proven way of building authority is to share bits and pieces of information that is not something that you can easily find on Google.

On social media, you can share something about:

• What you learned when you were in your journey towards being an expert
• Real-life situations that happened when you were still getting the hang of it
• The amazing things that you can do now that you are an expert
• How they can learn about it and be an expert, too

It’s sort of like tell, show, and TEACH kind of thing. 

When you start doing that, not only are you building authority but you are also building a genuine and valuable network that will help your business RISE TO THE TOP!

As an entrepreneur, a course creator at that, it’s like you’re constantly challenged to be creative. You have to look for innovative ways to share your knowledge and expertise in a way that a huge audience with different learning styles will be able to catch and master.

And as if that’s not enough, you also need to look for different ways to position your offer and be persuasive in your marketing for you to become profitable.

These require bucket loads of creativity.

Sad thing is, not all of us produce light bulbs in our heads one after the other. For others, it even feels like they don’t have a single drop of creativity in their system. 

Oooops! 100% WRONG! 

Creativity is not like a head full of hair that you got from your dad’s side of the family. Don’t get us wrong, we’re not saying that there’s no science and neuro-thing involved in creativity. Our point is, unlike premature hair loss, creativity is something that you can hone in on and develop or totally lose if you want to.

If you think that creativity is that thing that pulls you down in growing your biz, go grab a notepad!

Why?

We’ll try old school creative exercises with some cues from Roger Von Oech’s book - A Whack on the Side of the Head: How You Can Be More Creative!

Let’s start with 3 things:

1. Find the second right answer. This is a good exercise in the middle of a crazy workday and you just want a breather. Write one question in your notebook. It doesn’t need to be business-related, go with how to keep your pants up when you don’t have a belt and the like. Then start answering as a seven-year-old would. List down everything you can think of in 10 minutes and you’d be surprised at how creative you can be!

2. Work your metaphors. This is a good exercise before writing anything for your biz. It’s about word and scenario relations. List down 5-10 things that you can see on your workstation then think of an event or a situation. Try to fit them together by turning them into metaphors. 

Here’s an example directly from the book. The situation is LIFE, the object, a puppy; and the metaphor -- life is like a puppy dog always searching for a street full of fire hydrants. Does it make sense? Not when you first read it. It’s a logical inconsistency but this creative practice allows your brain to learn how to make the strange familiar or in business lingo, how to turn an idea into a working innovation.

3. Imaginative then practical. Now, this is something that you can use directly in the business. It starts with answering the what-ifs, the why-nots, how to break the rules, and whatnot. You can do this as a self brainstorming session. Write down all your answers on the left side of your notebook spread. Then on the right, work on what is called the practical phase. Filter everything and check 

• whether you have the resources to implement it
• is the timing right
• are there consequences
• who can help you
• is there a deadline 

These are three very easy, very elementary solutions to what you think is a lack of creativity. What these three exercises do is that they put your brain in a state where thinking creatively is the norm. All you have to do from now on is to do these brain workouts regularly to pump up your creativity muscles.

You create content to “show up”.

You create content for lead gen and opt-ins.

Your course is technically content.

Content creation is one of the most time consuming yet essential tasks for a digital entrepreneur. Even if you have a team doing this for you, their time means money and making money requires your time.

If you put together the amount of time and creativity of several people that are poured into strategy, planning, delegation, and creation, it can probably be your source of power during blackouts.

But here’s a secret...you don’t always have to be creating.

It’s difficult to come up with something new all the time, every time. That is why you use the magic word -- repurpose *confetti bursts*

This is not just republishing what you already posted several months ago hoping that no one remembers it anymore. It’s about formatting the data and information to create something new. You recycle the elements by packaging them in a different way so as to expand its reach. 

Think about turning a 500-word blog into several bite-sized posts that you publish on Facebook for 5 days. People who feel like reading a 500-word blog is time-consuming would more likely check out your 2-3 paragraph thoughts.

And if you’re pulling out the big guns, you can turn your course into a book that you can self-publish! One of our partners, Nick Stephenson, talks about this in one of our Rise Inner Circle Trainings. So if you do this, aside from having a course you are also marking your spot as a thought leader in your industry with your own book. You are not just an online course creator, you are also an author without having to spend another month of sleepless nights trying to finish your book. It’s done, just repurpose and publish!

You don’t always have to be a content factory. Start with what you have right now. Evaluate. You might find out that you already have next month's posts all figured out!

It’s going to be nerve wracking.

Your heart will pump sooooo fast, your palms will be sweaty, knees weak, arms heavy (cue Lose Yourself by Eminem)...

When you’re interviewing an expert during your virtual summit, a lot can go wrong.

Crickets, awkward silence, jumbling words, and sounding too nervous are just a few possible scenarios that can ruin everything that you have prepared for.

So, before you go live and get up close with your expert, you have to be prepared for what can happen. Your preparation should always start with research.

You should:

1. Know about the subject. You should be familiar with what your expert is going to talk about. S/he will be talking in the context of your niche BUT you should not be overconfident and think that you can lead the interview by just asking questions from their answers.  You should be able to introduce an idea that they can expand.
2. Know your expert. Try to familiarize yourself with their accomplishments, what they are currently working on, and their plans. You can ask them about these and turn a mundane Q&A into an interactive conversation sprinkled with real-life experiences.

After doing your research, start writing your questions. Craft them in a way that won’t limit your expert BUT see to it that they won’t drift away from the topic. AND during the interview, don’t stick to your questions. You don’t have to ask everything that you prepared especially if it doesn't fit with the flow of the conversation. Be prepared to skip around and adjust as needed (after all, you have PREPARED for this. :)

And one thing that we often forget is to listen.

When talking to someone we want our questions and responses to be oh so perfect that we forget to try to listen to what the other person is saying.

When that happens, things can get weird fast. Either you ask something that they already covered or ask something that doesn't follow what they just said. We don’t want that to happen.

There are just a few things that you need to iron out for your interview. Being a good interviewer takes time and practice but with these tips, you will have a good head start.

You know that one sentence that a course creator should have in their daily mantra?

ALWAYS BE PITCHING!

You don’t necessarily have to have a pitch deck and start presenting to random people you meet. That’s like a funny comic strip you’ll see in the Sunday newspaper.

What we mean is, that wherever you’re present, you should be able to tell the world about you and what you can do for them. Right now, your strongest presence is where you show up the most and where you interact the most with your audience and potential ones, ergo, social media. Enter Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and all your other platforms.

The first thing that your audience is going to see when they come across these platforms is your bio. Usually, there’s a very short maximum character limit. On Facebook, your personal bio should only be 101 characters long. Instagram is more forgiving with 150 characters and LinkedIn headlines are 120 characters. 

This sentence is the first impression you send to unsuspecting potential students or enrollees who read something you've posted and wanted to know if you were worth seeing more on their feeds.

So...what do you say? What is your one-sentence pitch?

A lot would run to the I-help-people-achieve-this-by-doing-this statements. But that’s so bland and boring and you have more pizzaz than that!

What to do? 

Here’s the Rise To The Top tip: don’t write one whole sentence with unnecessary words, use line breaks, more verbs and adjectives, AND if it suits your brand, use emojis.

Quick sample:

Instead of:

I help moms with toddlers manage their time so that they can keep their career and handle parenthood like a boss

You can say:

Time management for moms with tots | career growth ?? & parenthood like a boss ??

“Do I need social media for my business?” is a 2010-ish question.

For years now, social media has proven its power to impact the buying process from learning about real-life drama in your target audience’s life to understanding what will make them say “YES, GIMME!” to your online products and programs.

Right now, you probably have thousands of friends on Facebook or maybe you’re on your way to building your empire on Instagram, YouTube, and Twitter.

Aaaaaaaaaand maybe you have even unleashed your creativity on TikTok. #nojudgement

BUT did you ever sprinkle a little love over on LinkedIn?

It has been around since 2003. Just like most successful startups, it was born in the living room of one of its co-founders, Reid Hoffman and it was made specifically for businesses and professionals.

It’s like the clean-cut, workaholic older brother of other social media platforms!

Everyone on there is in BUSINESS MODE - no silly cat videos or pictures of the grandkids or last weekend’s mistakes. People are there solely for work. They are there to find industry news, jobs, vendors, partnerships, content, establish thought leadership, etc.

With that in mind, LinkedIn is one of the best places where you can sell your online business and get quality leads.

Let’s break it down:

1. People on LinkedIn are on work mode - your programs will receive better reception because people are thinking about their career and professional growth. They are more likely to engage in learning compared to platforms where they’re casually scrolling their feeds, getting distracted by the friend of their friend’s vacation photos.
2. Your LinkedIn profile is your online resume - as an online business owner, you have to establish yourself as a thought leader in your industry. On LinkedIn, people will see what you can do, your years of experience, what people say about you, and things that you know about your industry in just one click. You can impress your target market as soon as they take a peek on your profile. Zing!
3. LinkedIn is optimized to link businesses and professionals - LinkedIn has a powerful internal search engine where you can find the exact person you want to sell your products or services to and talk to them directly! No gatekeepers, no bouncers. It’s like sitting down with someone in a coffee shop and connecting with them!

Not to mention that LinkedIn has this kick butt algorithm that you can use to your advantage! LinkedIn’s algorithm prioritizes relevant content AND promotes engagement.

That means, even though someone isn't connected to you, IF they are more likely to engage in your content, LinkedIn will show it to them. You can put your business in front of people who are more likely to buy as long as you continuously post your nuggets of wisdom around the subject.

Wowza! Am I right?

So go ahead and pump up your LinkedIn game, starting of course, with your profile!

But I don’t exactly know how to do it right...do I just copy-paste my resume there?

Great question! There’s a lot of things that go on when it comes to profile optimization on LinkedIn. Remember that you are not applying for a job. You are establishing yourself as a thought leader, a business owner, and you should make people listen to you.

You can start with reverse engineering LinkedIn profiles of people that are leaders in your industry and other entrepreneurs like you. Trial and error, ugh!

If you haven’t guessed it yet, it’s taking ice-cold showers. Although it would take months before you notice a difference in your productivity, it immediately helps you manage your anxiety and depression and activates your alertness. It turns on your sympathetic nervous system -- the nervous system that controls your involuntary response to stressful and even dangerous situations. THE TO DON’T LIST

Let’s be honest, nothing is as satisfying as crossing stuff from our to-do lists. Sometimes, we even write the things that we already completed and cross it out just to feel like we got a lot done. 

Even though there are times when we feel bad when our to-dos get carried over to the next day and the next and the next, it still makes us efficient and on track. So why introduce the idea of a to-don’t list?

A to-don’t list allows you to figure out what you think is holding you back and eating your time. It allows you to intentionally identify the things that are stopping you or holding you back from slashing everything off from your to-do list.

EAT THE FROG!

In the words of Mark Twain, “If it’s your job to eat a frog, it’s best to do it first thing in the morning. And if it’s your job to eat two frogs, it’s best to eat the biggest one first.”

That one most dreaded thing in your to-do list, do that first and the rest will be a smooth ride. It’s that simple and it’s that effective!
