Welcoming Wanjira Mathai to the Prize Jury

We are delighted to announce the newest member of the Goldman Environmental Prize Jury: Wanjira Mathai. Wanjira Mathai is chair of the Wangari Maathai Foundation in Nairobi, Kenya, which seeks to advance the legacy of her mother, Professor Wangari Maathai, by nurturing a culture of purpose and integrity that inspires courageous leadership.

A Movement to Eliminate Waste Incinerators

Bel�n Curamil Testifies at the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights
Last month, Bel�n Curamil�the daughter of 2019 Chilean Prize winner Alberto Curamil�testified at a hearing on environmental defenders under attack at the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights in Washington. Her father remains in jail today on false charges. Read the coalition�s report or watch the hearing.

Goldman Environmental Prize Honored at Vila Nova de Gaia
Last month, the city of Gaia, Portugal, celebrated the 30th anniversary of the Prize at its annual environmental festival. Our executive director Michael Sutton and Prize winners Howard Wood (Scotland, 2015), Azzam Alwash (Iraq, 2013), and Tarcisio Feitosa (Brazil, 2006) attended and spoke about their work.
