Dear Friends, We hope you are keeping safe and well. The Lake District is so quiet, we feel very lucky to live and work in such a beautiful area. But we have missed you all so much, and are delighted to be able to tell you that we are reopening our doors on 4th July (as long as government guidelines don''t dictate otherwise), and we can''t wait to welcome everyone back!
We''ve been busy planning exactly what we can and can't do, and have been working on very detailed plans of how Gilpin will run in this new world. The team will be retraining during June to ensure that we can reopen with few compromises - retaining our quality and services, whilst being safe both for you and for our team. We believe that we have a number of significant core strengths which will enable us to do this very well, which we''ve laid out below, along with a tempting advance purchase rate (scroll down to the end!) and a lockdown idea which we very much hope gives you an extra reason to return.
We also have the advantage of the gorgeous Lake District - it feels like a once in a lifetime opportunity to be able to explore and enjoy the area without any international tourism. Of course there will also be day trippers, but as this tends to be more on weekends, it could leave us in a unique situation where in the summer months there is a little more midweek tranquility than there is normally! There is so much to do - walks, cycling, canoeing, wild swimming, golf, gardens, picnics, boating, fishing, horse riding - all with huge social distancing assured.
We are longing to bring #love&laughter back into Gilpin, and are very much looking forward to the return of our fabulous team and our lovely guests, as only this can transform the physical buildings back into the vibrant hotel that we''ve missed so much.
We look forward to seeing you all, Barney, Zo? and all of Team Gilpin x |

TRUST: "BETTER GET THAT SORTED BEFORE MRS C GETS BACK!" |
When Mum and Dad go away, there is always a frenetic bustle of activity for a few days before their return, with the constantly repeated "better get that sorted before Mrs C gets back", from both managers and staff... She is tenacious, respected, experienced and utterly obsessed with cleanliness. And now she has another level - our new Covid procedures. To be honest, she doesn''t really need to chase our remarkable HOD team, who have been with us for, on average, ten years. Most of our senior team are rooted in the area, with mortgages and family responsibilities, and so have an inherent interest in ensuring the highest level of safety - for themselves as well as for our guests, their families, their teams, and the business. We''ve put a lot of work into our Covid policy, which is constantly evolving. We will share the up to date policy with you around a week to ten days before your arrival, but of course please do ask our team on booking if there''s anything that you are concerned about and we can talk it through with you and make sure you are comfortable with everything. |

PHYSICAL LAYOUT: LOTS OF SPACE & PRIVATE ENTRANCES |
With 23 different entrances to our various guest accommodation, lounges and dining rooms, we have plenty of space for all our guests and staff to feel comfortable, and safely move around each other. In addition to this, 19 of the bedrooms have their own private external entrance.
Our two restaurants, HRiSHi and Gilpin Spice, each have three dining rooms, and there is also the lounge and bar as well the areas at the Lake House, meaning that even if the hotel is full we are able to guarantee a dining table for all of our resident guests at both breakfast and dinner, with plenty of space and agreeable dining times (as we won''t have to operate shifts). Room service is of course another option, with most of our bedrooms having lounge areas, and many with their own gardens and patios.
We will be serving just 24 people within each restaurant (four tables per room) to enable social distancing, and will not need to compromise on menu choice or on service. The main difference is that we will need to take pre orders so that we can fully prepare and sterilise your specific table (either in the afternoon or at night), including the seating, cutlery, crockery, cruets, glassware and tableware. |

FOOD: LOTS OF CREATIVITY & A BRAND NEW KITCHEN |
Hrishikesh has kept himself busy at home, researching, experimenting and creating amazing new dishes that wow the palate, and has been looking at our menus from a holistic as well as a safety perspective. This way of thinking is ingrained in his philosophy and you could easily lose a few days of furlough listening to his obsession... soon we will be sharing a video of Hrishikesh talking about his approach, so you can hear it for yourself!
Those of you that visited us in March will have seen the new HRiSHi kitchen being built - it''s now finished and has almost trebled in capacity, having been designed for three times the number of chefs that will now be working. Every station in the new kitchen was bespoke designed so that each chef has their own equipment including fridges, oven space and induction hobs - we did this to drive quality and improve efficiency, but it also means that we can continue to create four Rosette, Michelin standard dishes whilst comfortably following Covid guidelines. |

We have always championed privacy in anything spa related, which is a huge advantage right now. Our Garden Suites each have their own cedarwood hot tub, the Spa Lodges have their own ''spa trail'' including a steam room, hydrotherapy hot tub and outdoor sauna, and at the Lake House we have private spa trails, with a private swimming pool, cedarwood hot tub, hydrotherapy hot tub, and indoor and outdoor saunas.
Instead of the hands-on spa treatments which would normally be part of every spa trail, both the Lake House Spa and our new treatment room at Gilpin have two automated massage chairs. Incorporating renowned Japanese massage chair technology, these state-of-the-art chairs work on every part of the body from head to foot - a luxurious (social distancing) spa experience.
Our lovely spa team are still with us, but instead of doing hands-on treatments they will be coordinating private spa trails, whether in room or at the Lake House, with lovely products, bespoke aromas, Champagne and cream tea, enjoyed by each couple in privacy. We have always believed in social distancing when it comes to spa! |

A LOCKDOWN IDEA: FAMILIES & FRIENDS |
In our planning we have realised that we can provide private dining for groups of four couples, still with social distancing - so each couple has a table at the requisite distance, and likewise adjacent (socially distanced) seating in the bar, lounge or gardens. So for families and friends that haven''t been able to socialise, if you book four rooms together within the main hotel, we can guarantee private dining in both HRiSHi and Gilpin Spice where you can enjoy ap?ritifs, a meal together, coffee and digestifs - perhaps to celebrate an otherwise locked down birthday or anniversary? There is obviously limited availability for this, so do let us know if you''d like us to look at any dates for you.
Please note that to be able to do this all guests must absolutely respect social distancing, and we reserve the right to enforce this. Whilst dining together in a room will allow you to socialise, we will require everyone to adhere to social distancing as per government guidelines at the time of your stay. |

STAYING WITH US: KEEPING YOU SAFE |
We do hope that you will come and visit us - we believe we can keep you safe at Gilpin, with few compromises. The best way that we can operate is if we know who is coming, and when, so we can plan well in advance. In this way we can plan the timings of arrivals so that our team can welcome and look after you, have your lounge space designated, your restaurant table prepared, and to clean and sanitise your room thoroughly (the housekeeping team will be tripling their time in each room to over 3 hours). Because of the extra cleaning controls required, we are currently only able to take bookings of two nights or more. |
THE OFFER: APR AVAILABLE FROM TOMORROW |
So what is our offer? To encourage bookings we are extending our APR (Advance Purchase Rate - normally only available in winter midweek), to our summer midweek rates.
Tomorrow you will receive a promotional code which will enable you to book these rates online, and for five days this will only be available to guests on our database, after which we will open it out on social media and our website. Please note that this rate has very limited availability, and bookings will be available on a first come first served basis, so if you''d like to take advantage please do book quickly.
