General booking is now open for all concerts and events, with Tenebrae's headline concerts taking place on Wednesday 8 and Thursday 9 April. With performances, workshops, pre-concert talks and even a guided meditation, the festival offers something for everyone. We had a wonderful trip to Australia in January, taking in Melbourne and our debut concerts in Sydney along the way. NEW RELEASE: COUPERIN & GESUALDO 



We're pleased to announce the forthcoming release of our latest recording: Gesualdo's Tenebrae Responsories for Maundy Thursday performed by a consort of Tenebrae singers. The disc also features Couperin's exquisite Leçons de ténèbres, sung by Grace Davidson and Julia Doyle with Steven Devine and Jonathan Rees on organ and viola da gamba. 

The album will be released on Friday 3 April and will be available for pre-order very soon: watch this space for more news! In the meantime, you can listen to our recording of Gesualdo's Tenebrae Responsories for Holy Saturday here.

Earlier this month, we embarked on our most ambitious filming project to date! 

Tenebrae Unlocked allows us to bring the Tenebrae concert experience to you at home through four specially designed concert films - with music combining choral favourites with new discoveries, ranging from Renaissance to modern day.

Working with the talented crew behind our popular YouTube films, and following strict distancing and safety measures, our performances take place in the beautiful setting of St. Augustine''s, Kilburn, London. 



1,000 candles later, we''re looking forward to their online release in November. Launch date TBC...

We have been working hard to arrange safe performances where conditions allow. October has so far seen concerts in Snape Maltings, and Eisenach. This weekend we visit Canterbury Cathedral for the first performance from our full group of 19 singers since March. We''re looking forward to presenting our brand new ''Sounds of Solstice'' programme for the first time to a socially distanced, sell-out audience at the Canterbury Festival.

GRANADA FESTIVAL



Earlier this month, conditions allowed us to travel to the beautiful San Jeronimo Monastery in Granada, Spain for our first public concert since March. We''re so grateful to Granada Festival for welcoming us, the appreciative audience and our amazing singers for adapting so quickly to the extensive safety measures in place. We''re looking forward to more regular touring and performances as and when it''s safe to do so.

It was hugely emotional to hear the choir sing together again, and we''re pleased to be able to share a short clip of our concert, which featured Victoria''s spellbinding Requiem Mass. Click here to watch the video. 

PATH OF MIRACLES



Over the past few months we have been able to release several excerpts from our performance of Path of Miracles at the Festival de Saint Denis in 2018. We are delighted to share the final clip in this series - from the climactic final movement, ''Santiago''.

This performance of Joby Talbot''s masterpiece took place in the stunning Basilica of Saint Denis, and was captured on film by the wonderful French production company Telemondis. Also featured on this recording is Owain Park''s Footsteps, commissioned by Tenebrae in 2017 and recorded with the Fellows of the National Youth Choir of Great Britain.

We're looking forward to welcoming Toby to the team, where he'll join the remaining members of our current cohort, Victoria Meteyard, Hannah King and Joseph Edwards. Join Nigel Short as he leads a virtual ''Tenebrae Effect'' workshop, exploring the techniques that Tenebrae uses to create its distinctive sound. Following some wonderful feedback about our workshop on Parry''s My Soul, There is a Country, we''ll now be delving into the whole of his Songs of Farewell. Composed during the First World War, when many of Parry''s pupils had been killed in action, these are surely some of the most moving and iconic pieces in the choral repertoire.

Don''t forget to tune in to BBC Four at 19:00 on Sunday night (12 April) to watch our ground-breaking concert as part of the BBC''s Culture in Quarantine festival. Over the past fortnight we have been working with Livewire Pictures to produce a short concert of Easter music, filmed by our individual singers in isolation. It''s been a fascinating and uplifting experience as we''ve worked closely together to overcome the challenges presented by this new unique situation, and we can''t wait for you to see the result on Easter Sunday.

Welcome to our bumper Christmas newsletter. 2020 has been a year like no other, and for organisations like Tenebrae the future remains uncertain. However, the past 10 months have seen an outpouring of creativity from artists of all kinds, and we are proud of what we have managed to achieve this year.

None of this would have been possible without our audiences and supporters. Donations from all over the world have enabled us to create work for our wonderful freelance singers, and the appreciation of so many fans and supporters has also played a huge role in keeping us going when times have been tough.

THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS...

City Music Foundation presents CMF Artists (new and former) in a series of free monthly lunchtime recitals at the stunning Bart''s Great Hall throughout 2021. These free concerts will be available to stream from home and present the opportunity to experience new repertoire from an intimate setting.

NEW RELEASE: OLA GJEILO



Back in 2016, we recorded several pieces by the Norwegian composer Ola Gjeilo for his first album with Decca. We''re excited to share that Decca are releasing two bonus tracks which weren''t included on the original release, the first of which is out today! You can listen to Luminous Night on Spotify here.

This half-hour concert is part of the BBC's 'Culture in Quarantine' festival, and more information is available here.

GRANADA FESTIVAL 2020



Following the announcement of the UK travel corridor with Spain, we are delighted that Tenebrae will appear at the Festival de Granada this weekend!

We are looking forward to escaping the British weather and jetting off into the sunshine to give a lunchtime performance of Renaissance gems, singing in the stunning Monastery of San Jer?nimo. We will be taking measures to make sure singers and staff are as safe as possible, and we are excited to get back to doing what we love. As our first live concert since lock-down began, this reflective programme will be particularly poignant.
