Full-Time Tutor and Mentor | City Year AmeriCorps Member

City Year hires, trains, and supports 3000 AmeriCorps members each year to partner with teachers and schools helping to prepare students with the skills and mindsets they need to thrive and contribute to their community. 
 
At a time when many things are uncertain, one thing is for sure: City Year will be there for students and to help you launch your career.  

What You''ll Do:

As a City Year AmeriCorps member, beginning in July/August 2021, your service year will focus on helping elementary and middle school students stay on track by providing academic support, delivering behavior and attendance coaching, and encouraging student engagement to promote a positive school climate.?As appropriate, City Year service and member development may be delivered in-person or through a virtual platform such as Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Google Classroom, Schoology, Nearpod and Canvas. 

City Year's program year begins in Summer 2021 with benefits including:

Qualifications Include:

• Be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Legal Resident/Permanent Resident* 
• Be between the ages of 17 and 25 as of July 1, 2021 
• Have earned a high school diploma or GED certificate by July 1, 2021

• The Volunteer Internship Program allows students to participate in an 8-week customized community-based internship. These internships can be done remotely or in-person across the country and cover topics such as Environmental Sustainability, Housing & Homelessness, and Neighborhood Development.  Interns will receive orientations, workshops, evaluations, and a certification of completion. Our Summer Term starts in July, Fall Term starts in October, Winter Term starts in January, and the Spring Term starts in April.
• The Shared Service Experience Program allows students to join and volunteer with a group of peers (group size 6 to 12) from across the country for a week-long service-learning trip. Locations this summer include New Orleans, Chicago, Philadelphia, and San Diego.  This program includes all housing, meals, transportation, educational & recreational activities, and a dedicated trip leader.
• The Individual Impact Program creates individualized direct-service volunteer experiences across the country. These experiences are intensive, lasting anywhere between 1 to 12 weeks. Volunteers should be 18+up, but volunteers aged between 14-17 can participate with a guardian. Locations this summer include New Orleans, San Diego, Miami, Seattle, San Diego, Philadelphia, Chicago, and Puerto Rico. 

• Create hands-on design projects using 2D and 3D design tools and techniques.
• Work with leading architects and designers.
• Collaborate with peers globally.
• Format a thoughtful portfolio in preparation for college admission.
• Hear from influential designers to explore careers in architecture and design.
• Virtually visit iconic sites, design studios, and museums throughout Los Angeles.

How does TKS Virtual work?

TKS runs in parallel with the school year and consists of weekly, three-hour sessions on Thursday or Saturdays with students around the world. These sessions are the core part of the TKS experience where students will learn, be challenged, and build strong relationships with a new group of like-minded friends. Students are expected to work on projects throughout the week and by the end of the program will have a portfolio of university-level projects. See here what TKS students are working on.

The program is modeled after curriculums from Stanford, Harvard, and MIT, and designed to replicate learning environments of companies like Google and Facebook.

Who should apply to TKS?

If you''re ambitious, curious, and driven, then TKS is the place for you! No prior knowledge is required, and we don''t look at grades nor resumes. We want high-potential students who demonstrate a passion for leadership and innovation.
