Almost every gadget in our home is going wireless - but wireless usually means exposing your family to unnecessary and harmful EMF radiation. There’s a better way!

PROTECT AGAINST 5G WITH THE AUGUST FARADAY CROSSBODY

Worried about 5G? While there is still a lot we don''t know about how 5G will affect us, one thing we do know is that distance is our friend when it comes to all RF radiation. The farther you get from the source, the safer you are- 5G isn''t an exception! And this is something you can actually control and start doing right now.

Who else has had this moment: You are chatting on the phone to your mom or best friend and you start to panic, "Where on earth is my phone?". You frantically look around your house, under the seat cushions, in the drawers, in the freezer. All the while you''re literally holding the phone in your hand as your talking on it! Oops!

Am I the only one?

Many of us have become so accustomed to being attached to our devices at all times - there’s even a term for the irrational fear and the panic that ensues when we are without our phone: “nomo-phobia”. Even if you wouldn’t define yourself as addicted, what you may think of as normal technology use might actually be having a greater effect on you than you realize. Scrolling, texting, and Candy Crushing throughout your day can negatively impact your sleep, increase your anxiety, expose you to high levels of EMF (check out our EMF Radiation Guide for the full scoop), and distract you from other important tasks at hand.

Healthier Phone Use Guide

16 TIPS FOR A SAFER AND HEALTHIER RELATIONSHIP

WITH YOUR CELL PHONE.

1) Maintain a smart distance from your smart phone.

We love them, yes we do, but think of your Special Digital Friend as something you need to keep at a distance. Literally. Why? Radiation exposure drops significantly as you move it away from your body. By orders of magnitude. Scientists say that 20 cm, about 8 inches, is as close as you should get. So be super smart with that smartphone. To that end, please do not talk with your phone pressed up against your head. EVER. Even the iPhone manual (have you read yours?) says to keep the phone away from your head. Science have proven that wireless radiation has biological effects, so let’s be safe. WiFi and Blue Tooth off means your phone isn’t working and sending out extra RF radiation

2) Be THAT Person.

Go ahead-use the speaker phone, even when perusing the aisles at Whole Foods :) If it’s a sensitive matter, you can employ a quality air tube headset. Special shielding and the actual tubes keep the EMF away from your head. Remember, arm’s length.

3) Create a Healthy Habit

If you’re like most people, you’re letting that phone take a lot of your precious time. Obsession or (hopefully not) addiction- too much screen time is a major cause of brain fog. Studies show taking breaks and getting out in nature, meditating or learning a new skill can prevent digital demntia and brain fog. 4) Better to text?

Ummm, maybe? Using voice command text, you can avoid contact with the device, but there’s those pesky privacy issues. It’s difficult to be arms distance with your finger on the screen. Total radiation is lower because you’re not generating a continuous back and forth signal, but for the ultimate in safe texting: Be Stylus-ish. When texting, use a stylus. I love mine, it feels fancy and keeps my fingers 4 inches from the screen.We also have fun crayon styluses for little ones! Set the phone on a solid surface or use our CUTEST STAND.

5) Watch your bars

Doesn''t matter if you''re going old school Flip or Smartphone Hip- The fewer signal bars your phone is showing, the harder it is trying to connect with a cell tower. The radiation can double in some cases. So be aware. If you’ve only got a bar or two, it’s best to wait until you have clear and full signal. There are signal issues anytime your moving. Best not to use the cellphone.

6) Sleep sweeter

Please don’t bring your phone to bed with you. Phones in the bedroom bring EMF exposure and blue light. Blue light can keep you awake and mess with your melatonin production. (These are our favorite blue light blocking glasses) A recent survey showed that 71% of people who own a smartphone, sleep with it! Here’s something else very sad: 35% of respondents said their first thought in the morning is about their smartphone; 10% said their partner (good answer!) The best practice is to leave your phone in another room and get an analog alarm clock. And greet the day with thoughts of lovely things. If you feel you MUST have your phone close by, switch to airplane mode before you turn in.

What you need to know about AirPods & Radiation.

Apple AirPods are everywhere we look these days. Your colleagues on Zoom calls, the people you pass on your daily walk and rumor has it that Apple might even stop including wired headsets with every iPhone sale. That means AirPods are likely to become the new go-to for everyone.

You may have also gotten in on the obsession. No judgement here, we get it! They’re super convenient, pretty comfy and all the cool kids are doing it … but the looming question still exists: Are they safe?

When talking WiFi passwords, chances are your password falls into one of two buckets:

1) The same ridiculously long password that your provider set when you got the Wifi modem 4 years ago or

2) Something easy that you know you''ll remember like mywifi1234

I''m here to tell you that we all need to consider a third bucket: strong and unique passwords that are changed often!

This may sound like a hassle, but this is one of the easiest ways to protect your wifi (and connected devices) from getting hacked.

Why you don''t want to use a weak WiFi password.

Well, according to cyber security company Varonis, "If the password to your WiFi network is among the top million or so worst passwords out there, it’s likely a hacker could breach your network in a matter of minutes. That’s because all they need to do is capture a handshake from a device connecting to the Wi-Fi, load it into a tool like Hashcat, and sit back while it tries every guess in a massive file of breached passwords."

There''s a good chance that mywifi1234 or !password! is already in that password database and just waiting to be hacked.

Why you don''t want a repeated or old WiFi password.

You might think you''re in the clear with that old password set years ago or your go-to strong password that you use for everything. Here''s the thing, using the same (or similar) passwords across different accounts can actually lead to your password ending up on an easily accessible breached password list which hackers use to compromise your account. If the company you use for your grocery delivery gets breached, there goes the security on every other account. And if a hacker figures out your email and password combo for one account, they will likely test it out and many others.

A HAPPY AND CONNECTED HOLIDAY

Does this scene look familiar? I''ve been there too! Constantly asking family to put down the phones, even hiding devices for some forced unplugging... Especially with the year we''ve had, it could be easy to disengage and fall back into the mindless screen time that has defined many of our years. Let''s all lean into the simplicity and make new traditions of disconnecting from tech to connect with each other and our own hearts. Below are some ideas of how I make it happen in my family.

5 Tips to Disconnect to Connect:

Encourage Everyone to Set an intention. No one really wants this season to pass by absentmindedly. Help your family set an intention in advance and be mindful about seeing it through. Want to connect with your teenager home for the holidays? Start dreaming for the year ahead? Spend less time on your screens? Share your intentions with your loved ones for accountability or place reminders around your space so you remember in the moments you are reaching for the phone.
Create a phone drop. It''s hard to unplug when your phone is sitting there begging to be picked up. That''s why we love to create a designated phone drop where everyone leaves their phones. You might get some push back at first, but we guarantee they''ll be all smiles in no time.
Go old school. Switch off the WiFi, shut down the play station and gather together for some classic games. Charades, bingo, monopoly and Uno are some of our family faves.
Reminisce. Set some time aside to savor memories of holidays past. Share your favorite holiday traditions or most cherished memory with a particular person. Go through old photos or tell the stories of Ok, Ok it might sound cheesy at first but looking back at the past has a beautiful way of cultivating gratitude in the present.
Get Creative. What was the last time you got out of your comfort zone and created something new? Painting, drawing, a vision board or a simple coloring book. Not only is it so good for our brain, but it also makes space to connect with your own heart and bond with the people around you.
