New Year, New Directions

Stonehill Taylor is embarking on a new chapter in its history with the creation of a new division, Stonehill Taylor Interiors, with Sara Duffy at the helm as its lead principal. Duffy will manage interior design studios headed by Senior Associate Abby Bullard, and Associates Bethany Gale and DeeDee Sanchez.

Another new principal, Mark Hayes, will join the firm in March to spearhead a collection of architecture and interior design projects.

HOTEL OPENINGS

Renaissance New York Chelsea Hotel
New York City, NY

With the start of 2020 comes the opening of the highly anticipated Renaissance New York Chelsea Hotel, situated on the site of the famed Chelsea Antiques Garage. For the 349-key hotel's interior design, Stonehill Taylor played on the dichotomy of the hotel�s surroundings: creating the feeling of venturing into a secret garden tucked away in a decidedly industrial neighborhood. 'Connie' Airplane Bar & Lounge

Queens, NY

Part of the overall restoration of the TWA Hotel at JFK airport, Stonehill Taylor was tasked with the interior conversion of a 1958 Lockheed Constellation "Connie" Starliner airplane into a bar and lounge. Replete with reproduced cabin murals, curtains, seats, and historic ephemera, Connie's design references architect Eero Saarinen�s greatest works and all things "1962" - the year TWA opened. Conrad New York Midtown Hotel

Previously known as The London New York, Stonehill Taylor�s re-design of the new luxury-tier Conrad exudes calm and elegance to create spaces reminiscent of the upscale Midtown residence of a contemporary art collector. SPOTLIGHT: AWARDS

Stonehill Taylor is delighted to share the firm''s recent awards recognition. Saint Kate - The Arts Hotel, pictured above, is a Merit Winner in the international CODAawards 2020 competition. Stonehill Taylor is proud to have designed the artful interiors alongside Linda Marcus Design. Meanwhile, the TWA Hotel-for which Stonehill Taylor designed the guest room interiors and select public spaces-was recognized by Hospitality Design magazine''s 16th annual HD Awards, winning in two categories. The Moxy East Village-one of the firm''s architecture projects-nabbed an HD Award too, as did the hotel''s Little Sister lounge. The TWA Hotel also received a Citation of Merit from the prestigious Docomomo Modernism in America Awards and a recognition from the ULI New York Excellence in Development Awards. Congratulations to everyone involved.

ON THE SCENE

Remaking History

As project interior designer, Stonehill Taylor's Bethany Gale joined the owner and design team behind the upcoming renovation of Kentucky's storied Seelbach Hilton Louisville for a panel during this month's virtual BDNY conference. On November 17^th, Gale addressed the inspiration and thoughtful vision for the interiors of the hotel, which features a Grand Ballroom that inspired F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby. Among other fun facts: the hotel was the backdrop for film scenes in The Hustler with Paul Newman and Jackie Gleason, as well as the setting for an unsolved Kentucky Derby heist. That rich history helped to inform Stonehill Taylor''s redesign.

Future Thinking

On November 10^th, Sara Duffy, who leads Stonehill Taylor's Interiors Division, participated in Interior Design's Hospitality Webinar for a conversation on the future of the field. Alongside Morris Adjmi, AvroKO's Adam Farmerie, Margaret McMahon of Wimberly Interiors, and Adam Rolston of INC Architecture & Design, Duffy tackled thought-provoking questions from Interior Design's Editor-in-Chief Cindy Allen about how hospitality design will adapt and innovate for today's new reality.

Secondly, we want to assure you that we remain committed to meeting the goals of our clients and projects during this difficult time. To that end, Stonehill Taylor is fully operational. All project teams are continuing their work remotely thanks to the project-management and collaborative tools that we utilize. Your teams remain fully available by email and phone for any questions or concerns you may have.

While construction may be temporarily halted in some cities, our projects in various stages of planning remain full speed ahead, and we continue to strategize about creative outcomes for all efforts. Please do not hesitate to contact us should you seek any specific updates.
