November Cellar News – Celebrating the great 2018 vintage

The 2018 vintage may well go down as one of Margaret River’s best. Winemakers throughout the region have been raving about the terrific season and the critics are following suit.
Jamessuckling.com went so far as to ask if it’s “Western Australia’s Greatest Vintage Ever?”
“The 2018 vintage is without question one of the best and most classically styled vintages ever recorded in Margaret River and across greater Western Australia” says Nick Stock. “It delivers tautly composed, powerful and refined structure in whites and reds. Both will be long-lived wines. The cabernet sauvignons are likely to peak in more than 20 years. But this is not to say the 2018 wines aren’t destined to deliver much pleasure in the interim. On the contrary, they will unfurl in layers over time and they are complex in their youth, to the point of being cryptic.”
Our winemaker Larry Cherubino says “2018 is one of the best seasons I’ve seen in my career and cabernet sauvignon was just on another level, It wasn’t too warm, wasn’t too cool, and it ran perfectly from bud burst to harvest, the wines are very hard to fault.”
We’ve already released the 2018 Signature Series Chardonnay (92pts) and Cabernet Sauvignon (Gold, 94pts) and last month saw 2018 The Pennant Chardonnay (97pts Halliday) hit the market.
This month our 2018 Finisterre Margaret River Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon also become available. Two stunning wines, both drinking well now, the Cabernet with a long term cellaring future.
Halliday tasted the Finisterre Chardonnay for his latest Companion: 94 points, 5 glasses, Outstanding: “From Karridale and Wilyabrup, hand-picked, whole-bunch pressed to new oak, wild-fermented, matured for 10 months. Still ultra-pale, an almost delicate chardonnay, amazing given its age when tasted in Jan ’20. No qualms for the future as it slowly opens its wings.”

Last month saw some on-line celebrations for International Chardonnay Day on the 21st. Did you happen to open a bottle?
