Many might think BuzzFeed created the listicle, but there is no better listing site than the Farmers Almanac, and there is no better month to check the Farmers Almanac than in November. Those who take the time to check will be rewarded with information on National Cook for Your Pets Day, Zero-Tasking Day, and a wonderful image depicting the Beaver Moon (a la 1990s wolf moon shirts). We will wait as you go check it out.
Naturally, this amazing list started an internal battle-royale at Remix HQ to put together the best listicle we could think of for our customers. Let us know who you think should take home the trophy (honestly, we will not be hurt if you say Farmers Almanac)! Notice more vehicles double parked? Youre not crazy. FedEx, UPS, Peapod and FreshDirect received almost 40% more summonses for parking violations in 2018 than the year prior in New York City, where daily deliveries have risen to 1.5 million.
Portland got its first downtown bus-only lane! The project is one of 18 identified in Central City in Motion, Portlands plan to implement safer crossings, bus lanes, and bikeway transportation improvements in the citys core.
Remix Policy Strategist Rachel Zack & Oaklands Policy Director of Mobility and Inter-Agency Relations, Warren Logan, give their two cents on the role of micromobilty in the battle against climate change.
Santa Monica released a summary report on their Shared Mobility Program and guess what? Nearly half (49%) of shared mobility trips replaced trips that would have otherwise been made by car!

Policy Roundup
January 2020
In their annual January pilgrimage, 14,000 planners completed the journey to Washington D.C. for the Transportation Research Boards Annual Meeting. Several Remixers were in attendance (including our new CEO Tiffany Chu) to take part in the learning and revelry. In an effort to give back to this community of learners, Remix data scientist, Santiago Toso, wrote a piece on estimating passenger load from incomplete boardings and alightings data. Let us know what you think.

Didn't make it to TRB? Read Enos takeaways here. The synopsis touches on how two of Remix's partner cities, Portland and Minneapolis, focus on equity across a whole project lifecycle, from outreach to service delivery.
On the eve of Black History Month, we recommend reading up on Portlands Walking While Black initiative. The study team found that black Portlanders, regularly make travel choices based on how safe and visible the route feels, and often choose travel options that are longer or more expensive as a result. We applaud the study teams critical review of their survey distribution, a practice that illuminates who is underrepresented in the data, and their continued pursuit for input from those who were not represented.
As congestion worsens, cities are looking for management strategies like pricing and curb policies. Berkeleys Transportation Sustainability Research Center published an important paper examining the equity impacts of these congestion management programs.
LA Metro will extend their microtransit pilot with Via for six months. This extension comes after the on-demand pilot demonstrated significant success, providing over 75,000 rides over the last year to lower-income areas at the edges of Metros service area in Compton, El Monte, and North Hollywood. (Fun fact: Early employee Claudia Preciado hails from El Monte, CA.)

Policy Roundup
March 2020
Dear Readers,
What a ride this has been! Over the last year, readership of the Policy Roundup has grown from 1,000 to 6,000+. It''s been a privilege sharing this digital space with you every month, but as we all know, the only constant in life is change, and it''s time to evolve our format.
I''ll be sunsetting the Policy Roundup in its current form, but every now and again, Remix would love to send you news from our community and share how local governments around the world are building livable cities and navigating common challenges with best practices in the transportation space. If you'd like to receive these occasional updates from our team, please opt in by clicking the button below.
This last roundup is penned from San Francisco where Remixers have been working from home since Mayor Breed issued a "shelter-in-place" order on March 16. During this time of emergency and shelter-in-place, connecting you to resources addressing the global health crisis has become our top priority.

Remix sat down with Michelle Batsas, Executive Director of UITP, last Tuesday to discuss her findings. You can catch the conversation here.
Transportation departments must rely on innovation, especially during a pandemic. Bogata, Mexico City, and New York proposed plans to increase their protected bike lane to support social distancing while people travel to essential locations. New York City and San Francisco are looking to provide more pedestrian-only spaces. We are heartened to see departments work together quickly to make sure changing needs are met.
