Thank you for starting your online application for registration as a psychotherapist
with the Psychotherapists Board of Aotearoa New Zealand (the Board).
Your application number is 1453. Please use this applicant number in your correspondence
with the Board.
In order to complete your application for registration and an Annual Practising
Certificate (APC), please download the registration forms from
the Board’s Website. Please note that you must use the Board templates
provided.
Registration forms
These need to be completed and sent to the Board along with your supporting documentation.
1. Registration Checklist and appendices as appropriate.
Appendix 1: Reference Forms, one character reference and one professional reference.
All psychotherapists will need to complete both references.
Appendix 2: Supervised Psychotherapy and Therapeutic Hours.
Psychotherapists applying for the Psychotherapist Scope of Practice or the Psychotherapist Scope of Practice with Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist Specialism will need to complete this form.
Appendix 3: Declaration of Competence.
All psychotherapists applying for an APC will need to complete this form.
Appendix 4: Statutory Declaration.
All psychotherapists will need to complete this form.
Appendix 5: Statements Template.
Psychotherapists will need to complete this form when a statement is required.
2. Registration Application Information.
This document will provide information that may be useful when completing and compiling your supporting documentation.
Further information
To work legally as a psychotherapist in New Zealand, it is necessary to be
registered with the Board and hold a current APC.
An APC is normally valid for up to one year. You must apply for a practising
certificate each year if you are working as a psychotherapist in New Zealand.
The annual practising year runs from 1 October – 30 September.
Please note that it is a legal requirement to advise the Board of any change
of name or address. Name changes require certified supporting evidence within
one month.

Use your username and password which will be assigned to you when
you start the online registration process. Keep this password and username
in a safe place.
