BORA – hansgrohe and Ötztal seal a partnership
As part of the official team presentation in Rosenheim, BORA - hansgrohe presented a new partnership with the Ötztal Region. After the most successful season in the young team's history, the five newcomers and a total of 27 cyclists from nine different countries will prepare for the big races such as Tour de France, Giro d'Italia and Vuelta in Ötztal from the next season onwards. From 2020 the BIKE Ötztal logo will also decorate the jerseys of Peter Sagan, Maximilian Schachmann & companions.
The BORA - hansgrohe team had the most successful season in its history: The team from Germany finished the World Team Ranking in second place and also at the popular cycle races Giro d'Italia, Tour de France and Vuelta the team was sixth, fourth and sixth in the overall rankings - team manager Ralph Denk is more than satisfied. But he doesn't want to rest on his laurels: "We are already looking forward to the next cycling season and we have great plans, we want to finish on the podium in a Grand Tour and we want to win again a monument in 2018 - and of course we would like to become the future number one in cycling sports. In order to achieve all this, we need the right athletes, the right staff and also the best sponsors. And I am extremely happy that we have the most passionate partners that are committed 100% to our ideology. Therefore I am particularly pleased that we can already announce the renewal of the hansgrohe contract. But I am equally pleased about our new partner Ötztal - a warm welcome to our cycling family!" But not only new partners were welcomed by Ralph Denk: in addition to the four Austrians Felix Großschartner, Patrick Konrad, Gregor Mühlberger and Lukas Pöstlberger also the young Tirolean Patrick Gamper recently signed a contract.
Cycling sports focusing on Ötztal
Oliver Schwarz, Managing Director of Ötztal Tourismus, is pleased about the serious cooperation with BORA - hansgrohe: "Thanks to this most congenial team of the WorldTour as our partner, we expect great media appeal in Germany, the most important country of origin of our guests, and even far beyond. Ötztal is a cycling sports heaven offering myriad options for cyclists and bikers. We were a stage finish destination of Deutschland Tour and Tour de Suisse several times. Since 1982 we have organized the Ötztaler Cycle Marathon, an event that has set new standards. With this expertise in both top and mass sports, it was a logical step to aim at a partnership with BORA - hansgrohe."
The cooperation with BORA - hansgrohe includes several training camps, where the pros prepare for the 2020 season highlights in Ötztal while the BIKE Ötztal logo will decorate their jerseys, coach cars and trucks. On 30 August 2020, the Ötztaler Cycle Marathon will be held for the 40th time already. "The Ötztaler Cycle Marathon has given rise to a high level of cycling enthusiasm with more than 1000 volunteers and helping hands from the region involved with heart and soul. Due to this authentic enthusiasm we developed exciting offers for road cyclists, mountain bikers, enduro riders and families by founding the Bike Republic Sölden or building the Ötztal Cycle Trail. The hotels have specialized offers, the mountain lifts as well as the Alpine huts and pastures invest in a unique bike offer. The entire region lives and loves cycling and thanks to BORA - hansgrohe we want to bring into focus even more international attention to our offers."
Strong guys like James Bond
Due to the altitude, skiing is of course a major tourist topic in the ski areas of Sölden and Gurgl from October to May. In addition to sports, such as the Alpine Ski World Cup Opening, our guests also come to Ötztal for entertainment. Among many other highlights, there are monthly electric dance parties on the mountain. "We hope that the cyclists and employees of BORA - hansgrohe will also visit us in winter to enjoy some turns on snow. I would definitely recommend the 007 Elements museum to a strong guy like Peter Sagan: in the James Bond adventure world at 3000 meters above sea level, everything revolves around technical gadgets, fast machines, dramatic action scenes, great emotions and convincing characters - a truly perfect symbiosis with great athletes like the three-time World Champion Sagan or his sprinter colleague Pascal Ackermann," Oliver Schwarz concludes.
