Everyone wants to be a successful author. Is there a pattern? Is there some kind of book that you can read to understand this mystery? It is pretty simple actually.
The #1 rule to becoming a successful author is to start thinking like an entrepreneur. This is your book business and you need to start treating it like
one. Below is a small checklist that will help you become an Authorpreneur.
The Authorpreneur Checklist:
Realize that your book is your business and you are its CEO. Going forward, you are going to be making objective business decisions. This is where most authors fail. They make decisions wearing the author's hat while it would serve them better to objectively look at things like an entrepreneur.
Like all businesses, you need to invest in your book business too - time, energy, money and training. The upside of becoming a successful author is pretty good. You get paid not just for book sales but so many other revenue streams open up - A popular writer gets paid for speaking engagements, events, endorsements, workshops etc. The popularity
you gain could also help you in your career or business.
Know that like any business you can't do everything yourself. You need to hire good partners and outsource various parts of your book business to experts. Reserve your time to do things that you are really good at.
Your book is your product and it needs to be perfect. When I say perfect, it needs to be well written, edited,
positioned, designed and priced properly. No amount of marketing can be a substitute for a bad product.
Realize that there is a defined target market for your book. For every product out there, there is a defined audience. Even for Pepsi, the audience is not everyone. It cannot be so for your book. Sure, anyone literate can pick up your book and read. But will they? The better you define your target audience, the better your chances are at success.
Trust the experts you hire. You are good at writing, your designer is good at designing, your printer is good at printing and your marketing team is good at marketing. Never discount the advice you get from experts. Although you are self-publishing your book and you call the shots, remember, a good entrepreneur is a facilitator who brings people with different skillsets together and uses their expertise.?

But publishing it as a book adds credibility to you as the author, helps spread your message, story or idea. Most important of all, it helps you leave a legacy.

Self-Publishing is an entrepreneurial journey where you publish your book just like how you would run your own business. Of course, like any other business, you would take help from various professionals and outsource parts of your book publishing to experts.
The advantage of self-publishing is that you get to keep your copyrights, build your author brand and also earn higher profits.

A lot of times, we come up with excuses for not following our passion. Here are some of the top excuses that we have come across and steps to eliminate them to realize your dream of becoming a published author.
I don't have the time - You are not alone. A lot of entrepreneurs, professionals, artists, and experts write and publish their books every day. If they have time, you have too. Create a writing schedule and write 500-1000 words every day. That's all it takes to complete a book.
I don't know where to start - Start with the first line. You can then expand that into a plot using the Snowflake method by designing your book from scratch starting from a single line description of your story to developing it into a full-fledged novel. Here, you will know how to manage your creativity, organize your ideas and infuse them gracefully into your novel so you have a clear idea of what you're
writing about.
I started, but now I am stuck - All of us suffer from writer's block. There are days when we feel less creative and those ideas don't seem to generate as naturally as they should. The secret to overcoming writer's block is to do another passive creative activity like doodling. Several successful writers doodle
or even better, just keep writing random thoughts that come to your mind.

Speaking Engagements - Being a published author is kind of a big deal. A lot of our authors get invited as a guest speaker at various events. For
example, if your book is on a particular subject, you could be invited to an industry conference or even better, at an educational institution to share your wisdom with students. Successful writers earn quite a bit from speaking engagements.
Your Book as your Business Card - This works all the time, especially for authors who have penned down a book on their subject matter. Your published book does not only establish you as a credible expert in your subject but can also be used as a business card to further your business or consulting gig. There are several subject matter experts, brands and consultants who
