On November 15th UWNC took over 250 local students impacted by last year's fires on a holiday shopping spree. Each student had the opportunity to spend up to $150 on clothing, school supplies and gifts to help replace some of the items they lost in the Carr or Camp Fire of 2018. Thank you to all who donated to help make this possible and to Starbucks, Target, US Bank, Wells Fargo, Klean Kanteen, Partnership HelathPlan of CA, AAA, UPS and Redding Chamber of Commerce for coming out and volunteering to help a student shop. THIS is what it looks like when we Live United! Check out some of the pictures from this event and look out for more information about our next event!
With Giving Tuesday right around the corner, we ask that you join our effort to help rebuild the lives of North State residents who faced two of the worst wildfires in California state history last year. More than a year after the Carr and Camp Fire, thousands in our region are still struggling to make ends meet and need your help! Through case management, mental health services and our re-housing program (S.H.O.P.) we are dedicated to provide the support needed to help families recover from these tragic events and get back on their feet. Whether it is $1, $5, or $500 your support this Giving Tuesday matters more than ever before. United Way of Northern California
In July and November of last year, our community experienced two of the worst disasters to ever hit our state. 92 lives lost, more than 15,000 homes destroyed and hundreds of businesses lost in weeks time. More than a year later, thousands still do not have basic needs lost in the fire including shelter, food, clean water and electricity. Beyond that, more students are less prepared for school and impacted families are experiencing trauma and physical ailments from living in unhealthy conditions.
UWNC Provides Hope
From the onset of the Carr and Camp Fire until now, our agency has provided direct cash assistance to 10,459 families who lost their home. After emergency help was provided, we began to focus our efforts on helping to stabilize more severely impacted families. Over the past year, our team of Case Managers have helped meet ongoing needs from both disasters including temporary shelter, transportation, electricity poles, mental health services, school supplies and many more. As we continue to support those most effected by wildfires, we are also working to stabilize our community by providing financial literacy programs, workforce readiness opportunities, youth after school activities, affordable healthcare and the local 2-1-1 helpline. We CAN NOT do this alone. All of this support is only made possible through the caring power of our community. Whether you live in our region or not, we ask you to consider this Giving Tuesday what $5 could do or what $500 could do for a family who just lost everything.
