NPCC Art Docs
S20ADOCS
Facilitator: Alison Lam
All ages
Sunday, May 24
1:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.
Free of charge - registration required
As part of our brand new series of online programming, join us for the NPCC Art Docs series, brought to you absolutely FREE OF CHARGE! Relax in the comfort of your own home and chat with fellow NPCC members as we watch exciting art documentaries together. Our inaugural event, will feature two documentaries: Forever, Chinatown and Hearts and Hands.
Emmy Award nominee Forever, Chinatown tells the story of unknown, self-taught 81-year-old artist Frank Wong who has spent the past four decades recreating his fading memories by building romantic, extraordinarily detailed miniature models of the San Francisco Chinatown rooms of his youth. This film takes the journey of one individual and maps it to a rapidly changing urban neighbourhood from 1940s to present day.
Hearts and Hands chronicles the lives of ordinary women as well as individuals such as Harriet Tubman, Elizabeth Keckley, Frances Willard and Abigail Scott Duniway through the great 19th century events: industrialization, abolition, the Civil War, westward movement, temperance and suffrage. For nineteenth century women, quilts were the podium, the pulpit and the judges'' gavel, which their society denied them. Their quilts speak the language of abolition, patriotism, politics, social justice and westward expansion.
Be ready to participate in lively discussion during the showing of both documentaries on Sunday, May 24 on Zoom (link to be provided). Forever, China will begin airing at 1:00 p.m., while Hearts and Hands will start at 1:40 p.m. Join us for one or stay for both. Come for a fun interactive experience as we watch movies together and catch up with friends! Registration required.
NPCC Weekly Art Challenge
Facilitator: Alison Lam
All ages
Free of charge
While we''re all doing our parts in beating this virus by remaining at home, many of us have been creating incredible works of art in our chosen medium, be it wet, dry or textile. So, why not share it with our community?
In an effort to bring our community together and to promote NPCC online, let''s share what we''ve all been doing!
Starting on the week of April 20, a weekly challenge will be issued every Monday. Anyone who wishes to participate has until Friday of that week to produce a work of art that falls under that challenge. When your artwork is complete, tag NPCC on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter with "@npccarts", along with the hashtag #NPCCWeeklyChallenge, and we will repost, share, and retweet your works, either in our stories or in our feed. Let''s share with the world how talented the NPCC artists really are!
Challenge for April 20: We all love the front-liners who have made so many sacrifices for us in this fight against the global pandemic. Show them some love through your art! Post pictures of your artwork (don''t forget to tag us @npccarts and #NPCCWeeklyChallenge) by Friday, April 24th, and we will share it with the world! Let''s see how much the NPCC community appreciates our front-liners!
