Yesterday I was procrasta-snacking on chocolate-covered almonds (again) because I didn''t want to write some of the tougher parts of my book.

Finally, I buckled down to it (and a refilled bowl of almonds).

Thursday, I recorded another wine segment with the hosts of CTV''s The Social, Mel and Lainey.

It''s wonderfully weird to do this from home, while wearing Lululemon pants instead of being on the studio set in Toronto with a carefully curated outfit ;)

Last week, I spotted two cases of my favourite ros? sitting in a back corner of my local liquor store. I asked the sales guy for help.

"How many bottles would you like?" he asked.

"All of them," I replied.

"All of them? You're taking all of them?" he said, looking at me with a very judgey scowl.

"It's not toilet paper!" I blurted out, wondering how many families might be deprived of ros? if I bought them.

(It came as a great relief later when I searched online and found this ros? and about thirty other brands are still available in most of the liquor stores.)

But at that moment, he was tsk-tsking me under his breath.

Reluctantly, I left six bottles on the shelf.

#Ros?Shame

Elizabeth, have you stocked up on a particular wine that's your favourite?

I think the impulse is a yearning to find comfort in the familiar.

At least, that's what I'm going with as I ponder going back to get those six bottles ;)

Forget toilet paper (and bottled ros?). The item we''re buying most in bulk is boxed wine. Sales for the three-litre boxes have spiked globally during the lockdown.

The LCBO reported that boxed wines were up 77% in March this year versus 2019 (that's 47,000 more boxes sold in March) and it continues on that trajectory.

On CTV's Your Morning, host Lindsey Deluce and I chat how these bag-in-a-box or casks have had a nasty reputation with consumers in the past; the Rodney Dangerfield of wine.

However, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by what's in the box these days.

When it was announced that salons would open yesterday, I immediately direct messaged my hair dresser on Instagram.

I think we''ve all missed the "little things" that make life enjoyable, whether it''s a haircut, wine with friends or going out to a restaurant.

For the first time in months, Miles and I are dining out this evening.

We''ll be on the patio and it''s going to be chilly, but that''s okay as I was going to wear a big winter hat anyway since my Covid coif won''t be fixed until 8 a.m. tomorrow... she''s going to need hedge trimmers :)

Lately, I''ve been taping my mouth shut at night.

No, this isn''t an extreme way to cut down on drinking ;)

I do it to sleep better.

Apparently, our nose is a better filter than our mouths, and increases blood oxygen levels, so we sleep better.

It works!

Miles and I were on the back deck Saturday grilling steaks.

It''s one storey up from the ground so we can see into the backyard of our neighbours, who were also out grilling dinner.

Elizabeth, we chatted for at least half an hour (don''t worry, the steaks didn''t burn)...

Yesterday brought back memories...

I remember when my son used to make me oddly shaped pottery for Mother's Day.

I loved every piece of it, even though I had to ask him in a round-about way what it was.

The "what" didn't matter; the "why" did.

The story behind what he created held all the meaning.

. and was very much connected to his love for me.

Whenever you're giving your mother wine, don't knock yourself out. it's the why that matters most ;)

As I was opening another case of wine sent to me by a winery last night (tough life, I know), I started wondering...
