A RECORD-BREAKING NEW SCHOOL: JORDAN SPRINGS

In just over 12 months, the design and construction of Jordan Springs Primary School was completed – a record for any Schools Infrastructure New South Wales (SINSW) project.

Modscape, Group GSA and Richard Crookes Constructions closely collaborated for the new school’s launch. The facility acts as the beginning of a new era for SINSW as it examines innovative methods of construction such as DfMA to assist in providing NSW with fast-tracked, permanent, high-quality schools to cater to its growing population.

ESCAPE TO THE MOUNTAIN REFUGE

Designed by Italian architects Gnocchi+Danesi, this prefabricated timber cabin is based
on modularity and is designed to be brought to location via helicopter. Just as its name suggests, the tiny home is a welcoming built getaway among the mountainous country landscape.

PROJECT KANGAROOBIE, NSW

Stretched across a ridge near Orange, NSW, sits a stunning new modular home that follows the lay of the land and sited to enjoy dramatic views across the valley towards Mount Canobolas.

The 190-hectare working farm is pastoral and tranquil. Owing to the site’s location, the Sydney-based clients engaged Modscape to conduct the construction offsite in a controlled factory environment to eliminate potential weather delays and erase the task of coordinating multiple trades – difficult in a rural setting that’s close to four hours’ drive from their permanent residence.

Through the design phase Modscape developed and refined the initial concept sketches to create a beautiful 3-bedroom/2-bathroom home that’s very efficient from a modular point of view - the 225sqm home utilises just three modules.

HOUSE OF WINE

Enjoy a glass of wine (or two) after a long, hard day’s work? Us too. And we’d enjoy it much more if we got to drink it from this beautiful wine bar and tasting room in the historic town of Znojmo in the Czech Republic.

Set in a converted 19th century brewery and its adjacent technical space – a structure that was added in the 1970s – the House of Wine effortlessly highlights the region’s multifaceted architectural history.

Externally, the brewery’s classical structure has been treated like a heritage site and is retained and thoughtfully restored. Conversely, the internal space of the former technical hall has been given a lively insertion.

THINGS WE LOVE: MODULAR FLOATING FARM

You’ll surely know by now that we have an innate love of all things modular. Modular construction allows for efficient repetition yet can result in flexible designs that are interesting and thought-provoking.  This is ever-present in Rotterdam’s Recycled Park – a modular park that floats on the river.

Made entirely from recycled waste, the floating prototype park has been designed as a nature-friendly environment that actively cleans the Nieuwe Maas River, stopping plastic from the city before it makes its way towards the ocean. It’s also a unique space for the public to visit with seating areas and gardens.

The 140sqm Recycled Park not only includes areas for human visitors but sections of the park serve an ecological function as habitats for snails, flatworms, larva, beetles and fish.

PROJECT ELSTERNWICK EXTENSION, VIC

Utilising modern construction techniques, this two-storey addition to the rear of this mid-century home in Elsternwick is sympathetic to its origins, but unashamedly modern, fulfilling the needs for a growing family.

The owners loved their mid-century home, but in its poor state – cluttered layout, leaky windows, rotting frames and lack of storage – the house simply wasn’t working. The original street-facing facades were restored and surrounding mature trees preserved. A sensitive renovation and new modular extension made up of five small modules breathes new life into the home, reinvigorating the original qualities while being sympathetic to the era and style.

BIRDBOX PREFABRICATED CABINS

These are crazy, unprecedented times and at present we’re encouraged to stay at home - but there’s nothing to say our minds can’t wander… and we’ve found the perfect place.

Travel (digitally) to Norway where there’s an abundance of incredible, unspoilt nature – from wild fjords and jagged coastlines to icy glaciers and fertile green forests. Here you’ll find these incredible prefabricated cabins, perched on hillsides, where you can gaze over the lush landscape from the comfort of your bed.

If you’re yearning for an escape after being cooped up inside, you’re not alone. Most of us are spending a huge chunk of time at home with only the kitchen, living room and bathroom for scenery. But that doesn’t mean you can’t get your design fix. Here are our top picks of iconic architecture you can virtually tour from your couch.

NEW SOUTH WALES'' NEW-LOOK POLICE STATIONS

New modular police stations are being rolled out across regional New South Wales. Built by Modscape, the stations embrace the rich history of some of the state''s smallest towns while providing officers with much-needed new facilities. 

A SKI LODGE WITH THE FUNCTIONALITY OF A SHIP''S CABIN

Nestled in a Swiss alpine valley and surrounded by over 200km of ski slopes is the Revier – a modular hotel by Carlos Martinez Architects. Each room features a
wall-to-wall bed and window that faces out to the striking Heidsee Lake.

THINGS WE LOVE: NEW ZEALAND''S COWES BAY HOME

On an island in the Hauraki Gulf of New Zealand, just a short ferry trip from Auckland, is the Cowes Bay home by Cheshire Architects. A spectacularly unassuming design, it takes influence from its natural surrounds and is nothing
short of a haven for its owners.

SPENDING ''FOREVER'' BY THE BEACH

In the picturesque location of Sydney’s famous beaches sits the Clovelly home – a symbol of a young couple’s new life journey.

The design sits in orientation to the ocean views, with a long, open plan living/kitchen space that leads from the rear and opens up at the front to full-height windows and a balcony, drawing in the seascape and allowing the clients to enjoy the salty breeze.

A "TRIBUTE TO THE LANDSCAPE": AKA PATAGONIA HOTEL

At the top of a windswept valley in Patagonia, Chile, sits the Aka Patagonia, a boutique hotel at one with the landscape. The area is one of Chile''s most celebrated, famous with tourists for its incredible glaciers, mountains and wildlife, and the hotel is an infallible ode to that.

THINGS WE LOVE: KOREA''S LARGEST ANAMORPHIC ILLUSION

A mesmerising and – in all senses of the word – awe-inspiring billboard has taken over Seoul''s K-Pop Square.

''Wave'' by innovative digital media company d''strict occupies the largest outdoor advertising screen in the country, which is almost the size of four basketball courts.

Our friends at Cbus Property no longer need theirs and don’t want it to go to waste, so it could be yours!

We built this project in 2018, complete with high-end fixtures and materials, including a solar panel system on the roof and many other extras.

This modular building was used by Cbus Property as an on-site display suite for their Langston residential project in Epping NSW.

With construction on the Langston underway, Cbus Property now welcomes expressions of interest for the sale of the display suite in the interest of sustainability and efficiency. 

Like all Modscape projects, it was created following sustainable design principles, utilising a fully welded structural steel frames for each of the modules and premium materials throughout.

As Melbourne moves into stage four restrictions, the way Modscape operates in Victoria is slightly changing.
