The International Aeromodeling Center (IAC) in Muncie, Indiana, has been selected to host two world championships in 2021. The 2021 FAI F3D-F3E World Championships for Pylon Racing Model Aircraft will be held June 28 through July 5 and the 2021 FAI F3A World Championship for Aerobatic Model Aircraft will take place July 11-19.

The National Model Aviation Museum in Muncie, Indiana, is closed for the season, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still enjoy it. You can take a virtual tour of the museum and browse its extensive collection from the comfort of your home.

On Monday, November 16, 2020, the second annual National Drone Safety Awareness Week will begin—kicking off seven days of educational programming covering how to safely operate Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS), commonly known as drones. As part of National Drone Safety Awareness Week 2020, AMA and the FAA will engage with the public and emphasize safety by centering on six themes: Learn, Improve, Passion to Profession, Start a Program, In the Classroom, and Having Fun.

AMA’s Executive Council met October 24 and selected the dates for its 2021 meetings. The EC meetings are scheduled for January 16, April 24, August 1, and October 30, 2021. The annual AMA Membership Meeting is set for July 31 at the International Aeromodeling Center (IAC) in Muncie IN.

The year is nearly over, which means it’s time to start planning your 2021 flying schedule! The dates for the 2021 Indoor and Outdoor Nats and the AMA National Fun Fly have been selected. The Indoor Nats is set to take place at the Ultimate Soccer Arenas in Pontiac, Michigan, July 20-23. The Outdoor Nats will begin June 16 at the International Aeromodeling Center (IAC) in Muncie, Indiana, with a break June 27-July 19 for two world championships. The Nats will resume July 20 and run through August 4. The Soaring Nats will then take place August 21-29. The 2021 AMA National Fun Fly is scheduled for July 30-August 1 at the IAC. Mark your calendars today so you don’t miss these fun events!

On a recent episode of The AMA Podcast, lifelong modeler and chief technology officer of Wing, Adam Woodworth, and Wing Public Policy Representative Ben Brooks, joined the show to talk about their views on how the proposed Remote ID rules could affect model aviation.

After 65 years, a long-running model hobby show in Ohio has come to an end. The Toledo Show: R/C Model Show, held each year in Toledo, Ohio, was canceled this year because of COVID-19 concerns. The Toledo Weak Signals recently made the announcement.

Model Aviation magazine and the AMA Podcast each won an award in the annual Association Media & Publishing Excel awards. The magazine’s redesign took the silver award for magazines with a circulation of 100,000 or more. The award was given to Beyond Definition, formerly known as Bates Creative. The redesigned magazine premiered with the January 2019 issue. The AMA Podcast received a bronze award in the membership podcast category. The winners were announced on July 14.

This week is EAA’s Spirit of Aviation Week, which is intended to bring the aviation community together when we should all be in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, for the World’s Greatest Aviation Celebration. The first AMA Jr. Camp took place July 6-10 and hosted more than 600 participants. The camp was held virtually for youth ages 5-12 and included daily projects and live Q&As with well-known hobbyists. If you were unable to attend, you can watch the videos on YouTube. You can also find instructions for the projects.

If you’re an AMA member who is in search of a new job, your organization offers an online tool that can make the process easier. AMA has partnered with YM Careers to connect members with job opportunities across the country. The jobs posted include aviation-related careers and a variety of employment opportunities in various sectors.

Throughout the month of October, AMA is recognizing the Greater St. Louis Modeling Association (GSLMA) as the AMA Club of the Month! Established in 1960, the GSLMA now has nearly 200 members who help maintain and upgrade the flying fields, runways, shelter, and all other necessary facilities and amenities of Buder Park. The group has a Control Line area, a fixed-wing RC area, and recently added an FPV/drone area.

Applications for 2021 Flying Site Improvement Grants and Take off And Grow grants (TAG) are now available. Your club has until February 1, 2021, to apply for these funds. The Flying Site Improvement Grant program provides funding for AMA chartered clubs that have made improvements or are making improvements to their flying sites. TAG grants provide financial support to help clubs introduce model aviation to youth, newcomers, friends, and neighbors.

Throughout the month of August, the AMA will recognize the Suburban Aeroclub of Chicago (SAC) as the Club of the Month! SAC is a Gold Leader Club that also participates in AMA’s Intro Pilot Program. The club has instructors available to help the pilots who are new to the hobby. Congratulations to the SAC for all of its efforts!
