ANNOUNCEMENT: Millions of dollars unlocked to help high growth AI startups

LaunchVic will contribute $1.5 million to the establishment of Boab AI. In partnership with Artesian, Victorian universities and Artesian's international partner programs, Boab AI will unlock millions of dollars of private sector capital to help high growth AI scaleups.

As part of the new program, set to be rolled out by the end of year, Artesian will invest a minimum of $8 million of private sector capital in 32 AI scaleups. Artesian will also establish and raise a new Venture Capital (VC) Fund with a target of $50 million to provide ongoing investment support for AI scaleups.

The new accelerator program will establish an AI internship program, run community AI focused events and create over 75 new jobs through Boab AI and participating AI scaleups over four years.

The 2020 Global Startup Ecosystem Report from Startup Genome and the Global Entrepreneurship Network is out now with data and insights from Melbourne''s Startup Ecosystem.

The report shows that Melbourne's startup ecosystem has Generated $4.8 billion (USD) / $7 billion (AUD) in Ecosystem Value in the past 12-months and is in the Top 15 ecosystems in Asia Pacific for Talent and Performance.

It also includes a ranking of the top startup ecosystems globally and provides insights and guidance to public and private leaders about how to foster thriving startup ecosystems.

ClearCalcs helps engineers go remote during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic

When you launch an online drawing platform for engineers and architects, you're probably not thinking of how it will help in a global health crisis. But Vic startup ClearCalcs just had its biggest month yet.

The cloud-based structural design and analysis software was created to help engineers and architects automate everyday calculations, such as the amount of materials required to build a home.

Chris Borzillo co-founded ClearCalcs in 2016 at a time when the construction industry was flourishing.

The startup went through the LaunchVic-funded Startmate accelerator in 2019 and now, despite the widespread impacts of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, their offering is growing - if not thriving.

APPLICATION SUBMISSION EXTENSION: GRANTS FOR PRE-ACCELERATOR PROGRAMS

LaunchVic recently announced changes to its 'Support for Pre-Accelerator Program' due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.  The changes are minimal, reflecting the new circumstances, but focus on economic recovery as the ultimate goal.
 
Evidence from previous economic downturns illustrates that entrepreneurship can play a vital role in helping to drive recovery.  

Now more than ever we need to ensure that entrepreneurs looking to craft their own destiny have access to the best possible support, advice and networks, giving them every chance of success as they build new companies.
 
By providing grants for quality pre-accelerator programs, LaunchVic seeks to increase startup creation in Victoria, supporting Startup Entrepreneurs to establish early-stage startups, and therefore contribute to the growth of the Victorian startup ecosystem.
