The Florida Department of Environmental Protection recommends Preventative Maintenance Procedure as an annual practice. The City of Lauderhill Water Division is conducting its yearly Preventative Maintenance Procedure by changing its disinfection process from chloramination to free chlorination. This process will temporarily affect the City’s chlorine levels. This procedure is intended to improve the disinfection levels of our water distribution system.
This Free Chlorination Procedure will begin on Friday, February 21, 2020 at 12 midnight and will end on Sunday, March 1, 2020 at 12 midnight.
During this Free Chlorination Procedure, your water quality will absolutely continue to meet ALL Federal, State and local standards for clean water and will remain safe for drinking, bathing, cooking, and other household purposes. Please note that during this time you may observe a slight change in the taste, odor and/or color of your tap water. Do not be alarmed, your water is safe.
This Free Chlorination Procedure will affect residents served by the City of Lauderhill. Residents who are on kidney dialysis or those who have other medical conditions should contact your health care provider for more information to determine if your treatment needs to be changed during this process. In addition, anyone who uses City water for fish tanks or aquariums must adjust your chlorine treatment levels during the procedure period as well. If you see temporary water discoloration, please run the water in your faucets until the water runs clear.
Finally, be advised in the event you see water running from fire hydrants in your neighborhoods, it is part of the normal maintenance process.
Should you require additional information, please contact the Utilities Department at (954) 730-2972 or (954) 730-4225. We thank you for your patience in this matter.

As the nation battles the spread of COVID-19, Census data is being used to help in the fight. For example, American Community Survey statistics are helping identify counties with large at-risk populations such as the elderly. The Census Bureau''s ongoing surveys of businesses will also assist in measuring the economic impact of COVID-19 and other emergencies and help in the country''s eventual recovery.
This invaluable information is only possible because people and businesses respond to the Census.

City of Lauderhill to Rename a Street After Longtime
Community Leader Reverend Melville Herron NEWS RELEASECity of Lauderhill to Rename a Street After Longtime Community Leader Reverend Melville HerronLauderhill, FL - September 6, 2020 - 2:00 PM - On Wednesday, September 9, 2020 at 9:30 AM, portions of NW 70 Avenue between Commercial Boulevard and Inverrary Boulevard will be renamed after longtime Community Leader Reverend Melville Herron. Melville Bertram Herron, born in Jamaica on April 12, 1932, grew up on a farm. He was a hard worker and was eager to learn. He left for America at the age of 18 and began attaining degrees in higher education. He served his community in Brooklyn, New York as a homeowner association president, an engineer for the government, and a Minister for his church - just to name a few. All the while, he and his wife Grace raised their two sons Dwayne and Dexter. Upon retiring, Reverend Herron moved to Lauderhill and hit the ground running. In no time he began serving as the President of the Homes of Inverrary, volunteering to sit on the Planning and Zoning Board, and became a member of the City's Citizen on Patrol Organization. The Reverend was active with the Democratic Club and always encouraged people to vote! He served in several capacities and earned high honors and distinctions from the fraternal organization of the Freemasonry. Personally, Reverend Herron was never too busy to stop by a friend's house and deliver some fruit from his garden. He was always eager to lend a hand to someone in need. He was an amazing leader and friend to many. On May 3, 2020, Reverend Herron passed away of natural causes. The pandemic has caused delay in his official Celebration of Life, which is scheduled to broadcast live from Grace Funeral Chapel's Facebook page on Saturday, September 12 at 10:00 AM. City of Lauderhill City Commissioner Richard Campbell shared, "Reverend Herron was one of a kind. He served this community tirelessly. He was proud of his heritage, his City, his community, and served us all with passion and truth until his last days. The impact Reverend Herron made not only in Lauderhill, but South Florida was exemplary." Commissioner Campbell sponsored Resolution #20R-08-159 to have portions of NW 70 Avenue renamed "Rev Herron Ave." Please join the City of Lauderhill Mayor and Commissioners along with the Herron Family as we unveil the new street sign located on the corner of NW 52 Street and NW 70 Ave on Wednesday, September 9, at 9:30 AM. Lauderhill's Facebook page will stream the ceremony live at facebook.com/cityoflauderhill/. For more information, please call 954-730-3000. Post Date: 09/06/2020 2:00 PM |

Lauderhill, FL - June 10, 2020 - 12:00 PM - The Commission at the City of Lauderhill held an Official City Workshop on Wednesday, May 27, 2020 surrounding concerns about the "NSpire Healthcare Lauderhill" assisted living facility.
Prior to the City Workshop, complaints from the family members of NSpire's patients, along with high numbers of COVID-19 positive cases, prompted the attention of not only the City, but several media outlets to investigate and report on the issues facing the facility.
The City's Fire Department, whose responsibility includes treating and transporting all Emergency Medical calls in the City, has no medical oversight over the facility. The 108-bed capacity facility was already a concern to City officials. They began asking questions of NSpire's Administration regarding their policies to care for the healthy patients, as well as their mitigation plans to minimize further spread to staff and patients in the facility.
Before the City Workshop began, the City was informed that the NSpire facility became what is called a COVID Positive Recovery Facility. NSpire's parent company moved all of their healthy patients out of the Lauderhill facility and moved all the COVID positive patients from other cities in.
NSpire's administrators claim the Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) designated NSpire Lauderhill to become a COVID Recovery Facility. The City has asked NSpire to share any and all documents, correspondence, emails or agreements with any Federal, State, or Local agency regarding the COVID designation. NSpire has declined to forward any information.
City Commissioner Richard J. Campbell exclaims, "I am opposed to the process and placement of the COVID positive facility here in the City of Lauderhill. It is totally unacceptable." The City of Lauderhill does not govern or regulate the operations of NSpire.
**City Commissioner Richard Campbell is available address questions regarding the NSpire Lauderhill facility.

Lauderhill, FL - November 9, 2020 - 2:00 PM - The City of Lauderhill Emergency Management Team worked through the night while unimaginable amounts of rains drenched South Florida. Unprecedented flooding occurred throughout all parts of Lauderhill.
First responders responded to several rising water rescues through the night. One driver, unable to differentiate between standing water and the waterway, was pulled from a canal.
Although it is early in the assessment process, City Officials expect property damage to homes and businesses within the City limits.
Please remain off the roads if possible. Canals that were overflowing are beginning to recede, but some feeder bands may still come through our community today. Cars on the streets should again be mindful that standing water can be deceiving. Drive slow and minimize wake or waves that will further drive water into people's property.
City Hall, Administrative Offices, and all City Parks will reopen tomorrow, Tuesday, November 10, 2020. Community Bus Shuttle and Garbage pick-up services will also resume tomorrow.
If you have a true emergency, call 911. Public Works is available for non-emergency questions at 954-730-2960.

Lauderhill, FL - November 10, 2020 - 4:00 PM - The City of Lauderhill has resumed its normal operations after Tropical Storm Eta left behind over 12 inches of rain in our City and surrounding areas.
Almost all streets are clear in Lauderhill. Some flooding remains in St. George/Broward Estates and the Eastside communities. Crews continue to pump water away from the street. Blockages in the Storm Water system in these areas have been discovered. The removal and repair of the line is underway. The Swap Shop is now open. Some standing water has been reported in some commercial parking lots throughout the City. However, 95% of Lauderhill roads are passable.
All City Administrative Offices, including City Hall and Lauderhill parks, have reopened. The Community Bus Shuttle has resumed its regular routes. Garbage and bulk has also begun pick-up on its normal schedule. Waste Management has asked residents to expect delays in pick-ups because of flooding around the region. For those who were supposed to be serviced yesterday, you will be permitted to put out extra garbage on your next regularly scheduled pick-up day.
COVID-19 testing at the Lauderhill Sports Park, brought to you by the Florida Department of Health, has not yet resumed. Organizers believe they will likely reopen on Wednesday, November 11, 2020. Regular operating hours are from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Rapid Result Testing is available.

Lauderhill, FL - November 4, 2020 - 6:00 PM - The National Weather Service has reported that South Florida should expect wind and rain at the end of this week and into the weekend from Tropical Storm Eta. Currently positioned in Central America, Eta is expected to cross Cuba Sunday and reach South Florida after. Weather advisories suggest parts of South Florida may be under a Tropical Storm Watch by Friday and a Tropical Storm Warning into the weekend. This weather forecast is subject to change.
In anticipation of Eta, the City of Lauderhill Public Works Department has begun to prepare. Staff is clearing storm drains, running the pumps to lower canals, and continually clearing canals of vegetation debris and illegally dumped materials. Staff is expected to work during the storm and will be monitoring all communities as well as mechanical equipment.
As we prepare for the storm, we ask for your assistance in the following areas:
1 - Garbage/litter will get onto the streets and end up in catch basins or canals. Do not litter.
2 - Take the necessary precautions to keep your home safe from rising water.
3 - Secure loose items around the home or bring them inside.
4 - Turn off irrigation in order to protect your
sprinkler system.
5 - If you see litter please pick it up and discard of it properly.
6 - If you have hanging palm fronds or tree limbs, cut and secure them ahead of the storm.
If possible, remain off flooded streets. However, if you must go out please remember to:
1 - Assume standing water is deeper than it appears.
2 - Do not create waves when crossing standing water. Go Slow.
3 - Adhere to all detours and traffic instructions posted by City Staff.
As the storm draws near, the City will ease parking restrictions and allow cars to park on the side or back of homes.
For those who have Bulk Pick Up on Tuesday, November 10, please do not put it out until standing water has receded and the storm has passed.
If you are in a neighborhood with severe flooding your toilets may stop working. As the water recedes, the use of toilets will resume its normal operations. Please limit flushing to only when absolutely necessary.
Please call Public Works with any concerns to answer all questions at any time at 954-730-2960.

Tropical Rain Depression NEWS RELEASELauderhill and South Florida Still Experiencing Affects of a Tropical Rain DepressionLauderhill, FL - October 25, 2020 - 12:00 PM - This last week, residents of South Florida experienced record breaking rainfall. At this time, saturated grounds are still accumulating large amounts of rain from the tropical depression lingering over the coast of South Florida. Although there are isolated areas with standing water throughout the City, we are aware of the flooding in the Inverrary and Northwest communities. If you live in a flooded community, do not go out if you do not have to and remember standing water can be much deeper that it appears. PM Lauderhill Commission Lowers the Tax Rate for Property Owners in Lauderhill NEWS RELEASECity of Lauderhill Commission Vote Unanimously in Favor of Lowering the Tax Rate for Property Owners in LauderhillLauderhill, FL - October 1, 2020 - 6:00 PM - The City of Lauderhill Commission voted unanimously at Tuesday night's Commission Meeting to lower the millage rate for property owners in Lauderhill. "With so many folks negatively impacted from COVID-19, it was imperative the Commission mandate a tax rate decrease to give the property owners of Lauderhill some much needed relief," explains Commissioner Richard Campbell who voted for the decrease. The Mayor and Commission approved a new millage rate of 8.4898, which is a 5.7% decrease from last year's millage rate of 8.9898. On another note, City staff applied for FEMA's "Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response" Grant and successfully secured a $4.7 million dollar grant for equipment and salaries for 12 new firefighter/paramedics. "Cutting the millage rate in the middle of a pandemic without laying off any staff was a tremendous task for the City Manager and her staff. With 80% of our expenses directly related to labor costs, I would like to thank the Commission, the labor unions and all the staff for their sacrifices. Working together is for the betterment and well-being of our residents," explains Mayor Ken Thurston. The City of Lauderhill's new fiscal year started today, October 1, 2020. The Florida Department of Environmental Protection recommends Preventative Maintenance Procedure as an annual practice. The City of Lauderhill Water Division is conducting its yearly Preventative Maintenance Procedure by changing its disinfection process from chloramination to free chlorination. This process will temporarily affect the City's chlorine levels.

Broward County to Launch Online Rental Assistance Program on August
31 Broward County to Launch Online Rental Assistance Program on August 31- Funds can help qualified residents pay unpaid rents -BROWARD COUNTY, FL - Qualified residents impacted by COVID-19 will soon be able to apply online for rental assistance, thanks to the Broward County Commission. Broward County has allocated $25 million in federal CARES funding for a program that will help residents pay portions of unpaid rent for the months of April, May, June, July and August 2020. Funds are not a loan, and do not have to be paid back. Individuals may be eligible if they meet the following requirements:
Assistance equates to a partial payment of rent. For months one and two of the owed rent amount the rental assistance program will pay, and the landlord must agree to, 75% of the amount due. For months three, four and five of rent assistance , the program will pay, and the landlord must agree to, 60% of the amount due. Late fees, if any, will not be covered by the program. Payments are made to landlords, therefore if a landlord is not willing to complete the documents, the tenant will not be eligible for assistance. Broward County's Family Success Division is managing the application process and will approve and distribute funds until depleted. Application Period Opens August 31 The application period is Monday, August 31 through Sunday, September 6, 2020, from 8AM to 10PM daily. Applications may be submitted online only, at Broward.org/CARES. A computer is not necessary, and the application can be completed on a smartphone or tablet. No in-person applications will be accepted. Because applicants are required to attach significant amounts of substantiating documentation, residents who believe they are qualified are encouraged to begin today to collect documentation required for the online application process. For details, visit Broward.org/CARES. The application must be completed in one sitting and cannot be partially completed, saved or returned to at a later time. Examples of the types of documents that may be required depending upon each unique situation are:
Once a resident's application is assigned a case manager, he or she may be asked to supply other documents such as bank statements. Again, consult the website for details on documents that may be required at time of application. "Our residents are hurting," said Broward County Mayor Dale V.C. Holness. "This $25 million rental assistance program can provide much needed financial assistance to many, many families who need our help, and help protect landlords and small businesses who need to collect rents to pay mortgages and other expenses related to property ownership." COVID-19 has impacted many Broward County families in many ways. If you have loss of income not related to COVID-19, and need help during this difficult pandemic, please visit our Family Success Division website to see what other resources may be available to you. Lauderhill, FL - January 5, 2021 - 6:00 PM - During the first round of the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP), the City of Lauderhill seized the unique opportunity to engage local banks and lenders rather than relying on large commercial banks to fund loans for its business community. Additionally, our many community partners at the federal, state and county levels stepped up to provide the City with guidance and resources.
As a result of our collective efforts, Lauderhill's PPP Outreach Program has connected hundreds of businesses with vital funding to stabilize their operations and retain essential jobs for employees, many of whom reside in the local community.
As the pandemic continues to affect the economic vitality of the City, it is evident that additional funding, education and support is needed for our businesses to navigate these ongoing challenges.
The continued support of our community is paramount to our success. As such, we are launching a virtual education series for Lauderhill businesses to prepare new applicants and previous awardees for the PPP Second Draw in accordance with the approval of the recent Economic Stimulus Bill. The first session will be held via Facebook on January 13, 2021 at 6:00 PM at facebook.com/cityoflauderhill.

Business Expertise to New Businesses
NEWS RELEASECity of Lauderhill Commissioner Melissa P. Dunn Brings Small Business Expertise to New Businesses with a Free Virtual Self-Paced Business ForumLauderhill, FL - December 21, 2020 - 6:00 PM - City of Lauderhill Commissioner Melissa P. Dunn is no stranger to small business. As an entrepreneur who owns her own marketing firm, her experience in starting her own company and managing it through a global pandemic has been boundless. Her new initiative Lauderhill Shines is a 4 week self-paced virtual class for new businesses in Lauderhill and is currently open for enrollment. "Small businesses are the backbone of the great City of Lauderhill. We know in order to maintain a stable economy we need to invest in those who invested in us first. The amount of knowledge a small business owner must have to thrive is voluminous and can leave some feeling discouraged. This free seminar is being presented in a manner any new owner can manage at his or her own pace and from the comfort of home or work. The insight and access that course participants will attain while taking this class is priceless," explains Commissioner Dunn. The 4 week self-paced virtual class will be taught by successful local business leaders and City Officials. These same experts will lead live weekly question and answer sessions. There will be modules within the Lauderhill Shines program. The first is "Doing Business in Lauderhill." Participants will attain a good understanding of the rules and regulations of Lauderhill, as well as the permitting process and code enforcement. The second module is "Laying a Strong Foundation." This module is designed to help participants formulate a business plan, access capital, and learn the basics of human resources. The third module is called "Getting Customers." This module includes topics like social media, public relations, and marketing. The final module is titled "Scale Your Business" and should assist owners with doing business with local, county, and state entities. "This program will build the capacity of new Lauderhill businesses so that they may succeed and shine during their 1st year," Commissioner Dunn added. Businesses who complete the Lauderhill Shines program will be featured in some of Lauderhill's communication outlets, to include the biweekly Lauderhill Living E-Newsletter and other social media networks. Class graduates will also be considered for a feature on the DunnWisdom Morning Show and receive a Certificate of Completion at an Official City of Lauderhill Commission Meeting. If you have any questions, call 954-777-2041 or email Commissioner Dunn. Register at lauderhill-fl.gov/LauderhillShines by no later than January 6, 2021.
