Today we're re-launching The Lakes Vodka with a new look.

Filled with the same 'World's Best' vodka, we wanted a bottle design that reflects the quality of our spirit.

Made by our whiskymaker, our ultra-smooth English vodka retains the distinctive characteristics of the finest British wheat for a sweeter, more rounded flavour.

Gently distilled once with the luxury of time in our bespoke copper pot still, less is more. This is uncomplicated, simply beautiful vodka.

The perfect serve: The Espresso Martini

Add 25ml of The Lakes Vodka, 25ml of fresh espresso coffee, and 5ml of sugar syrup into a shaker, shake vigorously and strain into a chilled Martini glass.

Espresso is a key component of this drink and a fresh shot creates the frothy head but, if you don’t have an espresso maker, you can use an extra-strong measure of filter coffee as an alternative.

Garnish with 3 coffee beans.

Busy, exciting and ground-breaking in equal measure, 2019 began with eight prestigious World Drinks awards, including The Lakes Vodka being named the 'World's Best'.

The summer saw an evolution in our brand. In keeping with our ambition to create one of the world’s leading single malt whiskies - and inspired by our distillery's heritage - we adopted the Quatrefoil as an icon that represents our core beliefs: faith, hope, luck, and love.

September was a hugely proud month when we released our first widely available single malt whisky; The Whiskymaker's Reserve. The response was everything we could have hoped for and more, with all 5,992 individually numbered bottles selling out in just five weeks with critical-acclaim:

The Whiskymaker's Reserve No.2 followed quickly, alongside a number of new spirits which were released throughout autumn, including the signature expression in The One collection, our range of blended whiskies which showcase the impact of oak and seasoning on flavour elevation.

 The Lakes Gin has been refreshed. Simply beautiful and distilled with the luxury of time, we use only a few select botanicals to create a classic London dry style gin with a new and distinctive flavour:

2019 has been an incredible year but, while it's extremely pleasing to look back at what we have achieved, 2020 promises to be even more exciting.

We're looking forward to writing new pages in The Lakes' story with you, starting by sharing the rewards of a continuous programme of investment that will very soon see our whisky production tripled, the launch of new distillery tours and spirit releases, and the opening of a brand new state-of-the-art whisky studio and tasting rooms.

From poems to songs and satires, Robert Burns composed some of our most recognisable lyrics. Whether welcoming new beginnings with Auld Lang Syne or describing a mouse or a louse, his treasured verse has been recounted for centuries.

Each year, on 25th January, his life is celebrated with music, storytelling, Scottish fare and, of course, whisky. If you’re planning to raise a glass to ‘Rabbie’ this year, here’s how to make it the perfect night.

Celebrate Burns Night and enjoy a complimentary set of three whisky stones with each bottle of Steel Bonnets, the first cross-border blend of exceptional English and Scotch malt whiskies.

Elevating flavour

Our Whiskymaker has access to the highest quality casks.

Some are seasoned with Oloroso sherry, as well as the sweeter styles of PX and cream, and the drier Fino. Others once held tawny and ruby port, orange and red wine, creating yet more flavour options.

A showcase of his expertise in maturation, each expression in The One collection is a demonstration of the flavours derived from our seasoned casks.

Finished in first-fill tawny port casks from Portugal, The One Port Cask Finished is full-bodied and smoky with ripe cherries and plums on the nose leading to hints of nutmeg and black pepper with a long, warming finish.

A match made in heaven

To elevate our gin's flavour, we use only a select few botanicals, gently infused in the finest British wheat spirit, and distilled with the luxury of time.

The end result? A classic London style gin with vibrant notes of juniper, cracked black pepper and orange peel; perfectly matched to the delicate, floral flavours of Fever-Tree Mediterranean Tonic.

Simply beautiful.

Start any romantic evening in style by mixing The Lakes Gin (30ml) with strawberry puree (20ml), lime juice (12.5ml), sugar syrup (5ml), and a sprig of rosemary.

Shake well and fine strain into a champagne flute, before topping with Prosecco and garnishing with half a strawberry to the rim.

The ideal way to celebrate Burns Night, The Steel Bonnets OId Fashioned is a fitting tribute to Robert Burns, who was indeed a Border Reiver:

Ingredients: 
60ml of Steel Bonnets blended malt whisky.
2 dashes of Angostura Bitters.
1 sugar cube (or bar spoon of simple syrup).

Garnish: 
An orange twist.

Serve in:
Tumbler. 

How to make: 
Muddle the sugar cube and bitters in a mixing glass with a bar spoon of water. If you're simply using syrup, combine the bitters and a single bar spoon of syrup. Add Steel Bonnets and stir before adding one large ice cube (or three or four smaller cubes). Stir again, until chilled and the sugar is fully diluted. Pour into your tumbler and slip an orange twist on the side of the glass.

With Shrove Tuesday almost upon us, the chef in our distillery restaurant has created a delicious caramel whisky sauce to complement your pancakes.

Light and fluffy, American pancakes are easy to make and ideal with sweet and savoury toppings.

Tradition suggests you should opt for sugar and lemon juice but, for the more adventurous, our mouth-watering caramel whisky sauce will elevate the taste experience.

Made with double cream, treacle, demerara sugar and a measure of The One Signature Whisky, it is the perfect indulgence to enjoy before Lent.

Open to visitors once more, we invite you to give the gift of an experience unlike any other this Christmas.

Distillery Experience Vouchers do not have an expiry date so, no matter what happens next year, you can rest assured that your friend or family member will be able to enjoy the unique sights, sounds and flavours of our beautiful whisky distillery nestled on the shore of Bassenthwaite Lake.

Set in what was once a Victorian farmsteads'' cattle parlour, our bistro returns with a slightly smaller, but equally impressive menu, and with the same focus on freshness, flavour and simplicity.

Serving between 10am and 6pm, our menu changes regularly in line with the seasonal produce available, and in addition to dining alfresco in our courtyard, we have introduced a new Picnic Box and outdoor coffee cart where weather permitting, you can enjoy our beautiful gardens.

The Old Fashioned

Muddle a sugar cube and two dashes of Angostura Bitters with one bar spoon of water at the bottom of a chilled tumbler. Next, add 60ml of The One and stir before adding a large ice cube, or three or four smaller cubes. Stir again until chilled and the sugar is fully diluted, then slip an orange twist on the side of the glass. 

 The Boulevardier

Simply fill a tumbler with cubed ice and add 20ml of The One Whisky, 20ml of Sweet Rosso Vermouth and 20ml of Campari. Stir and garnish with a pink grapefruit twist.

The Penicillin

Add 50ml of The One, 25ml of fresh lemon juice and 25ml of honey ginger syrup to a shaker and fill with ice. Shake and strain into a rocks glass filled with fresh ice and top with 10ml of Ardbeg before garnishing with a piece of candied ginger or lemon zest.

Our new single malt whisky has been matured in the finest, meticulously sourced PX, Oloroso, Cream Sherry and red wine casks. 

Boasting an aromatic and seductive influence, the architecture is a continuation of our journey, an evolution in keeping with our increasing sherry-cask influence.

Rich and fragrant, the nose is scented with incense, spiced chocolate and toffee. Honey, figs and wood spice on the palate lead to a long, warm and lingering finish.
