EHMA is pleased to announce the second edition of its Winter School on the theme of "Reimagining leadership for healthcare". The Winter School will take place in Grimbergen (Brussels), Belgium on 4-6 February 2020 and specifically targets healthcare managers and professionals interested in reflecting on their leadership style and acquiring new skills.

The IHF Secretariat attended the 33rd International Conference of the red Cross and Red Crescent was held from December 9 to 12 in Geneva. The Conference ended with the adoption of eight resolutions which can be consulted here. In accordance with our previous engagements, we focused on the Health Care in Danger initiative and violence in healthcare. We propose a short summary of the attended sessions in this document, emphasizing the behavioural dimension of the issue which can be applicable in any setting around the world.

This new publication addresses the decommissioning as the removal of medical devices from their originally intended use in a health care facility to an alternative use or disposal. It further explains the options to eliminate or reuse and the notion of disinvestment decision. WHO developed this guide, with support from experts, as part of the WHO Medical device technical series.

The IHF is delighted to announce six new healthcare leaders joining the esteemed Governing Council. They are Niall Dickson fron the NHS Confederation, Dr. Ekaterine Kavtaradze from EVEX Medical Corporation, Dr. Satoru Komatumoto from the Japan Hospital Association, Dr. Huberto Lapuz from the Philippine Hospital Association, Rui Manuel Leal from the Portuguese Association for Hospital Development (APDH) and Dr. Steve Wen-Neng Ueng from the Taiwan Hospital Association.

Many delegates at the recent 43rd World Hospital Congress in Muscat, Oman took advantage of the new CERCA networking app to identify and meet valuable new contacts they quite likely would not have otherwise met without this powerful tool. The World Health Organization (WHO) Asia-Pacific Centre for Environment and Health in the Western Pacific Region hosted a dialogue with residents of Seoul, including students of the Graduate School of Public Health of Seoul National University where the event took place.

To cope with the closure of numerous hospitals affected by the eruption, the DOH has set-up mobile hospitals. These mobile hospitals can currently manage minor surgeries such as cesarean section, appendectomy and normal birth delivery. They also deployed 17 medical teams in various affected municipalities; allocation of tents to separate infectious patients, provide mental and psychosocial support and control of water sanitation.
Most evacuees complain of eye and upper respiratory infection due to the ashfall. A number of evacuees also experience diarrhea due to contaminated water. 

The Hospital Authority (HA) on 25th January announced the activation of Emergency Response Level in public hospitals to tie in with the Government raising the response level from �Serious� to �Emergency� in response to the latest situation of Novel Coronavirus. A series of special measures will be implemented to enhance infection control measures, and to focus the resources to cope with the situation of Novel Coronavirus.

Figures from China''s National Health Commission show that more than 3300 health-care workers have been infected as of early March and, according to local media, by the end of February at least 22 had died. In Italy, 20% of responding health-care workers were infected, and some have died. Reports from medical staff describe physical and mental exhaustion, the torment of difficult triage decisions, and the pain of losing patients and colleagues, all in addition to the infection risk.

Vizient in the USA hosted a webinar with experts from Emory and Society for Healthcare Epidemiology (SHEA) of America Outbreak Response Training Program who shared details about the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak and outlined action steps that hospitals can take to address the spread of the virus.

The novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-2019) is a newly discovered class B infectious disease managed as class A infectious disease by China. It has caused thousands of cases of infection so far, among which over 3000 were health professionals, and approximately 3,123 died. In this article, the Chinese Hospital Association shares Chinese hospitals'' experiences in combatting COVID-19.

Architects have designed intensive care units built inside shipping containers. These mobile hospitals could help ease pressure on health systems. The team behind CURA wants to scale rapidly to tackle the spread of COVID-19 in Africa. An Italian design company has teamed up with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to create prefabricated intensive care units (ICUs), to deal with escalating numbers of coronavirus patients around the world.

Here is an attempt to answer the question being posed by leaders across the public, private, and social sectors: What will it take to navigate this crisis, now that our traditional metrics and assumptions have been rendered irrelevant? More simply put, it's our turn to answer a question that many of us once asked of our grandparents: What did you do during the war?

Our answer is a call to act across five stages, leading from the crisis of today to the next normal that will emerge after the battle against coronavirus has been won: Resolve, Resilience, Return, Reimagination, and Reform.

Polish Hospital Federation is privileged to join the International Hospital Federation IHF, the only such organization on the global level. We hope to organize the world hospital congress in Poland in the near future."

This event will be chaired by Professor Gilles Carbonnier, ICRC Vice President. The launch of this report was postponed earlier in the year due to COVID-19. Since then, they''ve continued to see attacks on healthcare workers and facilities, exacerbated by the global pandemic, reinforcing how vital this work is.

For the first time since its creation, CONAHP - Brazilian Private Hospitals Conference, considered the main health econference in Latin America, will take place, in November, a 100% digital. In addition, the  income will be reverted to combat covid-19. A change happens at a time when the world is being challenged by Covid-19, bringing the need to think differently and create new solutions. Conahp comes with the slogan "Let's do it together". The purpose is bringing together stakeholders and, thus, proposing new ways for health system, which will no longer be the same.

The NHS has been fighting in the last few months but it can''t deal with many of today''s problems of stress, loneliness, addictions, obesity and poverty - it can only do the repairs. The book challenges our assumptions about health and calls for everyone to be involved in building a healthy and health-creating society.
