1. MEMBERSHIP IN HYPERLEDGER

- Who can become a �Member� of Hyperledger?

Currently only organizations can apply for General or Associate membership. We encourage all individuals to participate in the Ecosystem, as all of what we do is Open Source.

- Who can become an �Associate Member�?

Associate membership is limited to pre-approved non-profits, open source projects, and government entities, and requires orgs to apply and meet certain membership requirements. Associate membership comes at no cost, but we also expect our Associates to be active participants and contribute to the community.

- If I don�t qualify as an Associate, how can I get involved as an Individual?

With Hyperledger, you can participate as an individual, and/or as an employee of an organization that is not currently a member. �The advantage of Open Source Collaborative Projects is that it's open to anyone�so with Hyperledger, you have access to the code, the documentation and communication, technical working groups and sector special interest groups, as well as activities such as bootcamps, hackfests, and meet-ups

- Great, how can I contribute to Hyperledger today?

We recommend you watch this webinar on how to contribute to the Hyperledger project. Also make sure to visit our Wiki �to read about the projects, frameworks, components and libraries as well as Working Group and Special Interest Groups. All is open for anyone to participate in and start contributing!

In other news, Hyperledger was busy at the World Economic Forum (WEF) annual meeting in Davos this past week. Blockchain once again was a hot topic! In advance of the forum, Sheila Warren, Head of Blockchain and Distributed Ledger Technology (and keynote at Hyperledger Global Forum!) started the conversation by asking ”Will 2020 be the year blockchain overcomes its hype?. All reports, from the white badged WEF sessions to the various enterprise events surrounding the main event, point to the answer being yes.

Hyperledger partnered with the GBBC (Global Blockchain Business Council) at Blockchain Central Davos, for the “Get to Know Hyperledger, The Linux Foundation’s Enterprise Blockchain Community” panel moderated by Daniela Barbosa, Hyperledger VP World Alliances that included Hyperledger members (pictured from left to right), Joe Lubin, Co-Founder Ethereum and Co-Founder ConsenSys; Christine Leong, Managing Director and Head of Blockchain Identity, Accenture; Jason Kelley General Manager, Blockchain Services at IBM and Makoto Takemiya, Founder and CEO Soramitsu.

The session was a great opportunity for attendees to learn more about the Hyperledger community, why companies choose to contribute their open source code into Hyperledger and learn about use cases that all these companies are delivering to their customers including production networks in supply chain, identity, central banks, and KYC to highlight a few. Hyperledger has announced Fabric 2.0! As the first project of the Hyperledger greenhouse in 2016, Fabric introduced its v1.0 release in July, 2017. Since then, a number of enhancements and new features have been implemented based on the feedback from industry and community. Hyperledger Fabric 2.0 has been optimized for production deployments with decentralized chaincode features, private data enhancements and improved performance.

Hyperledger also announced 6 new members: Adoriasoft, Cognizant, inwinSTACK and Symbridge, Substra Foundation and The University of Hong Kong. Finally, we launched two important community groups: The Climate Action and Accounting Special Interest Group and The Diversity, Civility and Inclusion Working Group.

You don’t need to be a developer to contribute to Hyperledger blockchain technologies. Hyperledger DCI Survey

At Hyperledger, "All are welcome here!" Having a community that has a culture of encouraging people to voice their diverse opinions is crucial for the long term success of the project.
We recently launched a survey to help us understand our community better. Whether you are a frequent or occasional contributor, past or present we want to know more about you and your experiences here at Hyperledger. We will share the results from the survey at the Hyperledger Global Forum March 3-6.

Quarterly project updates are presented to the TSC and report on project health, issues, release and overall activity in the past quarter, current plans as well as maintainer and contributor diversity. In January, the 2020 project update calendar was published and we got updates on Hyperledger Sawtooth and Hyperledger Fabric.

3 key blockchain trends to watch out for in 2020

The quest for dominance among the frameworks will continue to play out in 2020. We’ll continue to see the usual suspects of Hyperledger Fabric, Ethereum-based Quorum, R3’s Corda, and MultiChain, but there’s also a chance of a newcomer upsetting the existing balance. With Digital Asset now firmly focused on its smart contract modelling language, DAML, and integrating it with other frameworks, we’ll see one or two interesting combinations emerge. More.

Telefonica to let 8,000 companies tinker with blockchain

Telefonica, which is entering the next phase of its transition into an archetypal DSP, has struck a partnership that will give 8,000 Spanish enterprises an opportunity to get to grips with blockchain. The telco has partnered with the Association of Science and Technology Parks (APTE), which hosts these companies on 52 sites scattered around the country. Under the agreement, Telefonica and APTE will deploy Hyperledger-based blockchain nodes at each site, thereby establishing a secure, decentralised blockchain network, albeit a private, permissioned one. CaixaBank launches we.trade blockchain trade finance platform

Spain’s CaixaBank announced it launched the we.trade blockchain trade finance solution for its business clients. we.trade is a digital platform launched by nine founding banks — Deutsche Bank, HSBC, KBC, Natixis, Nordea, Rabobank, Santander, Société Générale (SocGen) and UniCredit. These banks were joined by CaixaBank, Erste Bank, and UBS, bringing its shareholder count to 12. Eurobank was the first non-shareholder member that is not a subsidiary of an investor. The solution is built on the IBM Blockchain Platform using Hyperledger Fabric. More.

Four major banks and Isabel Group join forces to streamline business services with KUBE

The four major Belgian banks Belfius, BNP Paribas Fortis, ING Belgium and KBC, along with Isabel Group, have today announced the launch of KUBE. The financial institutions will use the blockchain application KUBE for sharing corporate data as part of the Know Your Customer process. It will streamline the verification and maintenance of corporate identities for businesses and banks. It is based on Hyperledger Fabric. More.
