We have great news for you!

Our car purchasing department is currently very busy with next year's buy of new car models for our fleet. And already now we have exciting news for you! 

We are proud to present the brand new SUV model VW T-Cross which will arrive to our fleet on the 30th of January! We consider it a bit of a scoop to get this smart model in our fleet.

The VW T-Cross Advance 1.0 TSI 85 (115CV) comes in petrol version. With its 385 litres of large luggage space, it will have plenty of room for your luggage, and comfortable 5-persons seating. 

The  VW T- Cross model will be delivered with  a lot of extras like tactile screen, stop-go button, VW connect, parking sensor, cruise control etc.

From the 30th of January, we can introduce a new automatic group in the fleet which is called “SUV AUT”.   In the “SUV AUT” group we will have the VW T-Cross Automatic model.

The VW T-Cross Advance DSG automatic version has of course all the same extras like the manual version.

The month of January is low season, so we take this opportunity to get our installations in tip-top condition before entering the peak season.
We are currently in the process of renovating the customer toilets and to make it adaptable to wheelchair users. Therefore, we apologize if the waiting area is not looking as it usually does. We expect the building work to be completed by mid-February.

The free Wi-Fi, PC for printing boarding cards, and luggage scale are of course still available in our waiting area.

The latest arrivals have been the brand-new Opel Corsa GS Line 1.2T model with 100HP petrol. Despite Covid-19 and current travel restrictions, we can assure you that the summer in Andalusia is enjoyed as usual with warm sunny weather. All restaurants are open, you can visit museums, go shopping, and go to the beach.

The only difference is, of course, social distance must be maintained, hand sanitizer and face masks must be used, which almost is the same procedure as in all European countries now.

We know that most of our customers are following the corona situation closely in Andalusia.

It can be difficult to find out where to find official numbers for cases, so we provide this link which goes to the Andalusian region''s health page, where confirmed cases are updated daily.

The website is in Spanish, but follow the instructions below and it will be easy to understand.

You must scroll all the way down and select the last graph on the website "Total confirmados por Municipios" which shows the total number of confirmed cases in each municipality.

There are three columns to this graph:
"Diagnosed PCR in the last 7 to 14 days" - Number of confirmed cases with PCR test in the last 7-14 days.

"Confirmados PCR" - Confirmed PCR cases (total over the entire period of the epidemic).

"Totals" - Here is a total of confirmed cases in the entire epidemic period, number of confirmed cases in the last 14 days, and number of deaths since the start of the epidemic.

Select e.g. the last column "Totales", and place the mouse over the municipality you are interested in. Then the day''s numbers will appear.
The given cases must of course be taken into account whether it is a small municipality with few inhabitants or e.g. Malaga which is a big city.

Once again, we point out that Helle Hollis follows all safety measures and is a “Covid-19 protected area” certified by TÜV.

The rental car is disinfected following a thoroughly cleaning procedure before rented again, we disinfect customer areas, have limited number of customers at the reception, and have hand sanitizer available everywhere.

We understand that it can be difficult to plan your next holidays, and therefore you can always book at last minute. If you plan to arrive within 48 hours, please call bookings department so we can confirm your booking immediately.

And remember that should you change your mind; it is free to cancel or change your booking.

Since the beginning of July, the Spanish Ministry of Health has required that you complete a Spanish Travel Health Form that is handed in when you arrive at Malaga Airport. The purpose of this form is to be able to contact you in the event of an Covid-19 case on board on the aircraft.

We recommend that you fill in this form before your arrival, to avoid waiting time. The form can be completed 48 hours before you arrive.

Once the form is completed, you will receive a QR code which will be scanned on arrival at Malaga Airport. You can either show it on your mobile phone or print it.

You can also download the app "SpTH" on the App store or Google Play store, and fill out the form there. Here too you will receive a QR code which will be scanned when you arrive.

Should you have forgotten to complete this form, you can always fill it in by hand when you arrive.

Here comes a little update on the lockdown situation in Spain, as we know many of our customers would like to know a bit more.

At present, the lockdown will be until the 11th of April.
This week, the Spanish government issued new restrictions where all unnecessary industry or businesses must be paused. This intervention has been taken to limit the further spread of the corona virus.

The famous Easter processions in Andalusia and the town fair in Seville (Feria de Abril) have also been cancelled. But now you have a reason to plan a visit for next year!

The good news is that we are allowed to rent out cars, provided that the strict restrictions are met, such as it is only allowed to use the car to go to the supermarket or to get to work.

Our bookings department look forward to hearing from you, so why not use your quarantine to plan a new holiday?
Of course, you can change your bookings dates without any charge if needed.

From the 1st of July you will see all the same familiar faces in the reception but of course with a face mask on.

We are looking forward to getting started again under the new safety measures and to provide you with a safe and secure car hire.

We remind you that before the car is rented it has been thoroughly disinfected and we even use ozone generators which kills all bacteria, viruses and fungal spores in all cracks and corners of the car. Our waiting areas are disinfected several times a day, and we have a maximum of 4 customers in the reception at a time.

If you want to get on the road as quick as possible, we recommend you to select Fast Lane service, where the contract is prepared in advance. You just have to show your passport and driver''s license and then you are on your way.

Remember that we have no amendment or cancellation fee if your travel situation should change.

The “new normality”:
Face mask and 2 metres social distance

The "new normality" in Spain means that you have to use face mask in many different situations and keep 1.5 - 2 metres social distance.

For instance, you must wear face mask when you take the courtesy bus and pick up your car keys in the reception. The face mask should also be used when returning your car.

Children under the age of 6 do not have to wear face mask.

When you are traveling in Andalusia, you also have to use face mask when you go shopping, visit a restaurant (except when you eat or drink, of course), visit a museum or if you walk on a street, where it is difficult to keep a distance of 1.5 meters to other pedestrians.

You don’t need to use face mask when you practice sports such as running or if you walk in a nature park where you can keep a distance of 1.5 meters to other people. And when driving in the car with your family, it is not necessary either.

It is easy to buy face masks in Spain. Most supermarkets sell a pack of 10 units or you can buy them individually at the pharmacy. The Spanish government has set a maximum price of 0.96 cents per unit if you buy them at the pharmacy.

And finally, if you want to avoid close contact with other customers, we suggest that only the driver takes the courtesy bus to collect the car.
At the departure terminal there is an express car park with 15 minutes of free parking to collect the rest of the family.

How to plan a day at the beach
during "new normality"

 A holiday to Malaga is guaranteed to include a day at the beach. The “new normality” means social distance of 2 metres at the beach and a 6-metre-wide belt is kept free next to the shoreline.

In addition, each beach has been designated a maximum capacity in order to maintain the social distance.

To make it easier to plan which beach to visit, there are websites and apps to help you out.

One of the sites is "Aforocostadelsol" which covers all beaches on the Costa del Sol.

We are well aware that traveling is not currently possible, but we would like to keep you informed of all the actions we are taking, so you know that we are ready to welcome you again when Spain reopens.

As the first, and currently only, car rental company in Malaga, we use ozone generators to disinfect the car.

Ozone is naturally found in nature, but in our case, it is generated by an ozone generator. It is a very easy and quick process and according to WHO the most effective disinfectant that kills all bacteria, viruses and fungi spores.

In addition, ozone disinfection has the advantage of entering all cracks and corners of the car, so you can be absolutely sure that it is sterilized before the next rental.

We have made a three-step disinfection procedure which you can read more about on our blog.

So, when the time comes to book your car, you know that you can safely book with us!

As yet another measure of safety for our customers as for our staff, plexiglass shielding has been installed at reception and at the car return desk.

We always follow the Ministry of Health´s current recommendations with regards to personal protection and, as well, we have hand sanitizers available for free use in the waiting areas.

As you can see, we are ready to welcome you when the airlines start flying again and Spain opens up

Fortunately, progress is being made in the fight against coronavirus. Spain has divided the reopening of the country into four phases, and the good news is that this Monday the province of Malaga went from phase 0 to phase 1.

In phase 1, restaurants and bars with outdoor terraces can open with 50% of their capacity and shops with up to 400m2 are also open without an appointment.
In addition, you can meet up to 10 people respecting distance, and at this phase you may drive without restrictions in the province of Malaga.
On the 1st of June the Malaga province are expected to enter Phase 2 if the virus is still under control.

In phase 2, it will be possible to drive throughout Andalusia and shopping centres will be opened with 30% of its capacity as well as restaurants and bars can start offering indoor dining.

This phase is expected to last until the 15th of June.

The final phase is phase 3, where there will be even less restrictions. This phase is currently expected to be completed on the 21st of June or the latest the 29th of June.

Please note that the dates are only approximate, as it depends on how well the virus is constrained in each region.

For the time being, it is reported that when residents get free movement throughout the country, tourists will be allowed to visit again.

That is hopefully, at the end of June, we expect it to be "new normality”. We look forward to seeing you again!

Spain goes into lockdown
- what does that mean?

As of today, Spain has officially declared lockdown for 15 days. The Spanish government has decided to take this action to avoid further spread of the corona virus, which is spreading day by day.

What does it mean for you if you come to Spain?

As far as Helle Hollis is concerned, we only have the most needed staff at work. We are of course ready to receive your car when you return it and to bring you to the airport. You can still hire a car, but we want to draw your attention to the many restrictions for driving.

The government has mandated that all driving must be restricted for only going to work and return again, or to buy the groceries, or pharmaceutical products, or to go to the bank. You must be able to document why you are driving if you are stopped by the police.

All shops, restaurants, bars, museums are closed. As well as beaches, parks and playgrounds. Only supermarkets, pharmacies, banks and petrol stations are open.

This implies that you cannot make a round-trip of Andalusia, but you may drive to your holiday home and stay there. You may also have a walk with your dog, but otherwise all outdoor activity is not allowed. In general, all have to stay home under the quarantine.

Malaga airport is open, but due to the many travel restrictions in many European countries, there will be fewer flight arrivals / departures, as well as its generally not recommended to travel unless its urgent.

We are obviously very sad about this situation, but Malaga will stay here and the sooner the corona virus comes under control by everyone following the advice to stay indoors, the sooner we can resume our work as usual.

We are proud to announce that we are the first car hire company in Spain that has been certified by TÜV for being a “Covid-19 protected area”.

As always, Helle Hollis is the first to come up with new initiatives. We were the first car hire company to start using ozone generators to disinfect the car.

And now Helle Hollis is the first car hire company in Spain to be certified by TÜV to comply with the Spanish Ministry of Health''s hygiene regulations - "Covid-19 protected area" - a certificate issued by FENEVAL.

The entire process has involved revising and adapting all procedures in Helle Hollis to the new Covid-19 safety measures.

This includes the procedure for disinfecting the hire car before a new rental, which involves thoroughly interior cleaning with a disinfectant, as well as the use of an ozone generator which removes all bacteria, viruses and fungal spores.

Other safety procedures are disinfecting customer areas and courtesy the bus several times a day, as well as limiting the number of customers at the reception. In addition, there is mandatory use of face mask among staff and customers, and social distance of 1.5 metres together with free hand sanitizer available in the installations.

All this has involved intensive training of the staff and subsequent audit and certification of TÜV.

TÜV is a worldwide recognized certification company that guarantees that all safety measures are taken into account.

FENEVAL is the Spanish industry association for car hire companies, which has prepared the certificate "Covid-19 protected area" based, among other things, on the guidelines of the Spanish Ministry of Health.

With "Covid-19 protected area" certification, we go a step further to secure both customers and staff through compliance with all safety procedures.

We have just started up again, and we have immediately got delivered new cars to the fleet.

Just arrived to the fleet is the Toyota Corolla Active Tech 1.8 hybrid model with 125HP. This trendy model comes amongst other with 7” information display, wireless mobile charger and alloy wheels. As always with hybrid models, you will not have to worry about recharging the car as the battery will automatically recharge when you drive.
