For 45 years, groups within The Public Interest Network – including Environment America, US PIRG, Work for Progress, Toxics Action Center, Fair Share, Change Corps, the Green Century Fund, and many other state and local groups – have been building the people power behind campaigns for change. We all want to make a difference. But wanting change, or hoping for it, or even passionately arguing for it isn’t enough. 

We’ve already built a team of staff, members, coalition partners, local elected officials and activists across the country, with more than a million followers online. But we need to do more. That’s where you come in.

The Public Interest Network operates more than 15 organizations committed to a cutting-edge vision of a better world, a set of core values, and a strategic approach to change. These groups include U.S. PIRG and Environment America, and they encompass 400-plus staff.

We take a principled, but pragmatic approach to creating change. We build organizations and run campaigns that connect big ideas to concrete policy changes that improve the quality of our environment and our lives. We’re transpartisan – we reach out to everybody who might agree with us and consider joining us, including liberals, conservatives and everyone in between. We value dialogue over polarization. We invest in people and strategies that deliver results, including advocacy, lobbying, campaigning, litigation, policy research and grassroots organizing. 

Take global warming. Environment America has fought for and won state and federal policies that clean up polluting power plants. U.S. PIRG has worked in dozens of states and cities for better public transportation. Green Century Funds has led the charge for fossil fuel free investing. Frontier Group, our think tank, has researched the vast potential of renewable energy. Green Corps has trained new environmental organizers – and these organizers have gone on to take leading roles in the broader climate movement. And that's just one issue and just some of our groups.

Over the past 45 years, our coordinated approach has won hundreds of victories. Because of the laws and other policies we’ve won, people are buying healthier and safer products, getting more of our energy from the sun and the wind, drinking cleaner water and breathing cleaner air, recycling more and wasting less, getting a better deal on credit card fees and student loans … the list just goes on.

But we need to do more. And every day brings a new challenge or new opportunity. No matter how big the challenge, we know how to break down problems to a manageable size; set ambitious but achievable goals; and work hard to win and build the resources we need to win the next campaign.
