Let's Welcome the New Decade Together - By Adam Owen

Happy new year to all! As we look forward to the new year, I wanted to reflect on 2019 and acknowledge how proud I am of what each of our team members from Avery Ranch, Falconhead, and Teravista have accomplished.

In 2019, we had:

• Worked hard to maintain each of our courses for our members.
• Grown our membership base by delivering one of Austin's most robust Membership plans available.
• Grown our youth golf academy with talented golf pros leading the way.
• Hosted more private/corporate events and wedding receptions with the help from of our Events team.
• Hosted fun Member tournaments for all throughout the year.

In 2020, we have more exciting things that are going to happen including improvements at our driving ranges, courses, buildings, and so much more! But most importantly, I want to say THANK YOU to all of YOU! You're the reason why we continue to love what we do and focus our time and attention at each of our courses so you can continue to have the most positive and wonderful experience. Happy new year to each and every one of you.

It’s that time again – time to set your personal goals and resolutions for the New Year. We have taken the feedback from members during 2019 and have set our resolutions as well. Magnolia Golf is striving to become the best golfing experience in Austin. To accomplish this, we understand we must continue to improve. Below are changes that members will see in the first quarter of 2020.

• New Lower Dues Are Getting Closer: We are on our way! Falconhead Golf Club welcomed 5 new members in the month of December raising our total new members to 7 since the start of the program. We need 18 more members before May to permanently lower everyone’s monthly dues. Remember, you can lower your dues today if you refer and sponsor any new member into the club. Email Brandon Towns at Brandon.Towns@MagnoliaGolfManagement.com if you have questions or a referral.
• Toptracer Range Mobile: Magnolia Golf is excited to announce the addition of Toptracer to the range at each of the club. This is an added amenity to Full Privilege Members with no additional fees. Toptracer Range Mobile is the latest innovation to reshape golf. Utilizing Toptracer technology—the most accurate, most trusted, most used ball-tracing system in the world—Toptracer Range Mobile optimizes practice sessions by sending shot traces and detailed data directly to members’ phones. Installation should be complete in the first half of February. More information regarding the many benefits of Toptracer will be sent soon.
• Teravista members will now be offered a discounted rate to Avery Ranch and Falconhead Golf Clubs. Instead of paying the prevailing green fee, Teravista members can be assured their rates will not be more than $40/weekdays and $60/weekends. Teravista members can also expect special offers during non-peak times throughout the year.
• Lakeview Room at Avery Ranch: Beginning in January, the Lakeview Room at Avery Ranch will undergo a new renovation which will add to the square footage and ambiance of an already incredible venue for tournaments and private events. Feel free to swing by Avery Ranch to view the progress of the construction and see what is available to members.
• New Software Update: All members can expect a better experience with the help of a uniform, cloud-based software update installed company-wide. Information will be readily available for staff to accommodate the needs of each member.

In addition to these confirmed changes, Magnolia Golf expects to make more announcements in the near future regarding significant additions to the experience for you, the members.

As we welcome in the new year, I wanted to let all of you know we're continuing our work with maintenance for all three courses during the winter months:

• Each course is going through equipment maintenance including hydraulic hoses, filters, and any other issues to keep our equipment running smoothly for the spring.
• We are still trimming trees at each course. We will continue this effort until Feb. 1 per city ordinance.

Thank you for your patience and for obeying all cart signs and roughs during the non-growing season.

SPECIAL EVENT - Valentine's Day Dinner at Avery Ranch Sunset Grill

We're excited to host a special select 3-course dinner at Avery Ranch Sunset Grill by Executive Chef Thomas Hupe on Friday, February 14. RSVP by Feb. 10 to Jim Mayo. 

Toptracer Update The implementation of Toptracer Mobile is complete at each club. Go-live to members should happen within the week. Look for announcements on our website, social media and within the Pro Shop soon. Some questions have been presented at the Pro Shops. Here's a quick Q&A: What is the cost to members? Toptracer Mobile is free to Full Privilege members. Magnolia Golf continues to improve the experience and value of memberships at the clubs and Toptracer Mobile is one of those complimentary to the membership. What do members need to do to get set up? Members can download the Toptracer Mobile free on your phone. Select "Toptracer Range" and install. When the installation is complete, you will be able to locate each club on the app and designate a home range. What is estimated date for completion? Installation is close to completion and should be ready for use very soon. We will continue to keep the membership informed of the progress.

Avery Ranch Lakeview Room Update

We have begun renovations to the Lakeview Room which will add to the square footage and ambiance of an already incredible venue for tournaments and private events. The goal is to have it completed by the beginning of April. Feel free to swing by Avery Ranch to view the progress of the construction and see what is available to members. Start planning ahead to book our newly updated venue! While we are under construction, remember that the Sunset Grill is perfect for smaller off-site corporate events or meetings. Policy Updates

As we get set for the 2020 golf season, we wanted to remind the membership of a couple important policies.

Member Cancellation
The need to cancel tee times happens to everyone. Please be sure all members inform the respective club of any tee time cancellation. Cancellations can be made online 24 hours prior to your tee time. Anything within 24 hours, please call the Pro Shop to cancel. We want to ensure we free up those times for other members to book. Failure to inform the club of the cancellation will result in a “no show” fee. Contact your Pro Shop with any questions.

Weekend Cart Fee Policy
Another company policy in effect that we want to remind everyone about is the weekend cart fee policy. Whether you walk or ride, a $16 cart fee will be charged to all golfers on Saturday & Sunday before 1pm. This policy is to encourage cart usage during these busy times to improve the pace-of-play.

Pace-of-Play Improvement
In addition to the Weekend Cart Fee Policy, we have implemented multiple strategies to improve the pace-of-play at each club. During the 4th quarter of 2019 and so far in 2020, we have seen a significant improvement. Although, members should expect to finish the round in 4 hours and 30 minutes, some data shows rounds finishing around 4:00 to 4:15. Members will continue to see this being addressed and are encouraged to be aware and self-assess as they enjoy their rounds. Please inform the Pro Shop of any issues on the course resulting in slower pace.

We've been busy during the winter months maintaining each of our courses making sure you always have a positive golfing experience. Here is what we've done so far:

Falconhead Golf Course

• We are installing 2 new pumps for our pump station.
• We are near completion with holes 10-18 tree trimming. We have a few to do on the front 9 before our deadline. Next year we work on holes 1-9 during the winter. Our goal is to do 9 holes extensively each year and add some areas outside the cart paths as we get to a point where it's small maintenance each year on the golf course trees.
• All fairways have been sprayed with pre- and post-emerge weed controls.
• Greens have received their first months fungicides.
• We will start spring weed control plans at the end of February to mid-March.
• We will receive an extra pre-emerge this spring compared to the other two courses. Our primary goal from the beginning was to clean up the weed issue. Our first year's progress was great, but to get to our expectations, it will take another year of consistency.
• We are rebuilding both fairway machines that we use for spring mowing with new reels, rollers, and oil changes.

Avery Ranch Golf Club

• Tree trimming has been completed on holes 1-10.
• Mulch has been laid down on holes 1-9.
• Fairway’s have been sprayed with pre- and post-emerge winter weed control.
• Greens have received their first months fungicides.
• We are rewiring some clubhouse irrigation that is starting to age.
• We are rebuilding both fairway machines that we use for spring mowing with new reels, rollers, and oil changes.
• We will be starting on spring weed control plans at the end of February to mid-March.

Teravista Golf Club

• We are adding a new electricity source for our control boxes on holes 6-8. We have been watering manually while the new skid is being built behind #7.
• Fairways have been sprayed with pre- and post-emerge winter weed control.
• We are rebuilding both fairway machines that we use for spring mowing with new reels, rollers, and oil changes.
• We will be starting on spring weed control plans at the end of February to mid-March.
• Tree trimming has been completed with holes 1-12 and 16-18. We are also trimming small suckers and branches on trees.
• All flower beds have been trimmed back for the winter.
• All native creek areas have received their once a year cut down that is allowed by the state for riparian areas.

ALL Courses

• We have installed Toptracer Mobile at the driving ranges of all three courses. Thank you for your patience during the construction.
• Frost Delays: We've noticed some players have gone out during frost delays to the range and practice green areas before they are cleared for play. Please remember that the practice greens and range areas are no different than the course unless someone says they are clear. Most of our areas receive full sun, so they thaw a little quicker. We need to wait for the greenlight from the superintendents to use the facilities during a delay. Remember, frost can form above freezing even with 40 degree mornings with calm wind and clear skies. 
• We appreciate everyone obeying all cart signs and roughs as much as possible during the non-growing season to keep conditions the best as possible for all golfers.

Member Tee Time Cancellation

Following a record number of member referrals during the month of May, June continued the trend by having nearly half of our new members being referred.

Remember, in order to enjoy the Member Referral Award of NO DUES, you must submit your friends'' name or they must include your name as the sponsor prior to joining. This helps Magnolia Management ensure we are rewarding the efforts of our members.

The news surrounding COVID-19 continues to change. With that being said, the team at all of our courses is taking every precaution to make sure everyone continues to have a fun but safe time. Please note below the following measures that we have taken and the guidelines at each course that MUST be followed. 

Falconhead Golf Club

• 6 feet SOCIAL DISTANCING at ALL TIMES
• A mask or face covering MUST be worn upon entering the Pro Shop or Clubhouse.
• Carts are now open to two riders.
• Flagsticks have been placed back in the holes and the cups are placed back to normal.
• The Pro Shop will now be open to allow check-in at the counter but please continue to practice safe social distancing. 
• Credit card payment only. Cash will not be accepted.
• Drinks and food can be ordered inside but must be consumed outdoors. Limited outdoor seating will be made available at safe social distancing. Each table can only host a maximum of up to 4 people.
• Rakes have been removed from the course.
• Rental clubs are now available.
• Practice range bays are kept a minimum of 6 feet apart.
• Limit # of people on the practice green and practice range.
• Water coolers have been removed from the course.
• Water is drained from ball washers.
• Hand sanitizer provided at the ball machine and building exit.
• Continue to maintain best practice for personal hygiene.

Teravista Golf Club

• 6 feet SOCIAL DISTANCING at ALL TIMES
• Credit card payment ONLY. No cash will be accepted.

Hello Everyone - Here is an update of what we have going on with maintenance for all of our courses.

Avery Ranch

• Painted parking lot fire lane curbs.
• Verti-cutt greens in two directions.
• Sprayed Tribute herbicide over tee boxes and around greens for goosegrass control.
• Re-planted flowerpots around clubhouse and back side of Lake View room after construction was completed.
• Cleaned all gutters around the Lake View Room.
• Sprayed Primo on all fairways, thick rough areas and tees to regulate growth.
• Sprayed bunker faces and edges with Primo regulator.
• Added fresh mulch to flower beds around the wedding area and Clubhouse.

Teravista

• Spiked greens with ½” cross tines.
• Verti-cutt greens in two directions.
• Top-dressed greens.
• Sprayed Primo on all fairways, thick rough areas and tees to regulate growth.
• Fixed pump station motor. It was running at 2/3 capacity for a brief period.
• Currently working on holes 1, 9, and all of back 9 computer antenna communication. These holes are currently being manually watered each morning until fixed.
• Installed new plantings at the Ranch House.
• Sprayed Tribute herbicide over tee boxes and around greens for goosegrass control.
• Added new boards to some of the bridges on the course.

Falconhead

• Spiked greens with ½” cross tines.
• Verti-cutt greens in two directions.
• Sprayed Primo on all fairways, roughs, and tees to regulate over growth.
• Applied June fungicide program on greens.
• Added granular fertilizer to weaker traffic areas on tees and roughs.
• Edged cart paths.
• Sprayed bunker faces and edges with Primo regulator.
• Sprayed Tribute herbicide over tee boxes and around greens for goosegrass control.

MAY TIP FROM THE PRO

Hello Everyone - Here is an update of what we have going on with maintenance for all of our courses.

ALL Courses

• All fairways and roughs are spiked at Teravista and Avery Ranch. Falconhead has already started with fairways.
• Falconhead and Avery Ranch are done with the last application of pre-emerge herbicide until August. Teravista has recently started with its application.
• All three courses were sprayed with primo (growth regulator product) to slow down the frequency of mowings on the fairways and thicker rough areas.
• All three course greens have been 1/2” cross tine aerified. Teravista has started air injection.
• All three course greens have been verticut. We will be adding a light sand application very soon.
• Ant bait will be applied soon to all courses.
• All bunker edges were sprayed with a 4” band of finale to stop growth of grass runners into the bunkers.
• All tees seeded with winter grass (we did not seed every tee) have been sprayed out with revolver herbicide to transition back to bermuda grass only.
• Greens will be sprayed with revolver around mid-May depending on temperature and growth of the under canopy tiff eagle bermuda grass.
• As of April 15 we have averaged about 3 -4” of rainfall at each course which has helped substantially but also has caused us to fix bunkers more frequently.

With the latest county/city mandates, we appreciate your help in staying safe with others around you and maintain safe social distancing. We also ask that with everyone using their own carts that you please follow the cart signs and the 90 degree rule the best you possibly can. With the extra cart traffic we will definitely have more wear and tear to the high traffic areas so we really appreciate your help with this.

Good News! The course remains open.

After speaking with the proper authorities and implementing strategies to limit the risk of spreading COVID-19, we are excited to announce Falconhead Golf Club will remain open. In order for us to abide by the standards and create a safe environment for everyone, we need your help. We have put together the list of requirements all golfers must follow.

• 6 feet social distancing anywhere on the property at ALL times.
• Only one person per golf cart unless you''re with a family member. We encourage you to “get your steps in” and walk it.
• One person at the counter at all times. Keep the required 6-foot distance.
• Cups are flipped upside down. When your ball hits the cup, that is considered a made shot.
• Flagsticks have been removed. Pin sheets will be provided.
• Practice range bays must remain a minimum of 6 feet apart.
• All rakes have been removed from the course.
• Credit card payment is highly recommended.

Obviously, with the limited staff available, we cannot monitor the situation as closely as we would like. Please notify the Pro Shop if you see anyone not practicing these safety rules. If the problem continues, that individual will be asked to leave the premises.

The last few weeks have certainly been unprecedented for each and every one of us and the news surrounding COVID-19 continues to change by the hour. With that being said, the team at all of our courses is taking every precaution to make sure everyone has a fun but safe time. Please note below the following measures that we have taken and the guidelines at each course that MUST be followed. 

Falconhead Golf Club

Credit card payments ONLY. Please call the Pro Shop at (512) 402-1558 to check-in. If playing with a group, please consider designating one person to check-in for the entire group. NO CASH PAYMENTS WILL BE ACCEPTED.

• 6 feet SOCIAL DISTANCING at ALL TIMES
• 1 golf cart PER person (unless you’re with a family member) OR get your steps in & walk it.* Carts will be first come, first serve.
• Rakes have been removed from the course.
• Flagsticks have been removed. Pin sheets will be provided.
• Cups are flipped upside down.
• Practice range bays are kept a minimum of 6 feet apart.
• Limit # of people on the practice green and practice range.
• Water coolers have been removed from the course.
• Water is drained from ball washers.
• Hand sanitizer provided at the ball machine and building exit.
• 1 person at the counter at a time (social distancing will be strictly enforced).
• Continue to maintain best practice for personal hygiene.

Avery Ranch Golf Club

Hello Everyone - Here is an update of what we have going on with maintenance. Some of the items have been mentioned under Course Guidelines.

ALL Courses

• Water coolers have been pulled at each course.
• Practice flags have been pulled at each course.
• We are halfway done with aerification of the roughs and are about to do the fairways.  
• We have spiked all the greens at each course and sprayed out our first application of pre-emerge herbicide for the spring and preventative fungicide application on the greens at each course.

Hello Everyone - Here is an update of what we have going on with maintenance at all three golf courses.

Falconhead Golf Course

• Both new irrigation pumps for our pump station were replaced.
• We finished tree trimming on the course except for chipping some of the limbs cut before the deadline. We are working on trimming clubhouse crape-myrtles and plants.
• We finished spraying our extra pre-emerge application for Falconhead on Feb. 12 and will now concentrate on spot-spraying winter weeds.
• We are spraying an application of insecticide on a few tees on the course that have some worm castings in an effort to clean that up while tees are dormant.
• We will also start spiking at Falconhead but may be a few weeks later after we finish with chipping and cleaning around the clubhouse.

Teravista Golf Club

• We installed a new drainage sewer pipe for #4 restroom to replace the old one that had a lot of roots blocking and causing us to shut down the restrooms too often.
• Pending weather moving forward, we also started to spike roughs on Feb. 17. We will try to do all roughs with the slicer and spike the fairways once it warms a little more.
• We will also start our pre-emerge plan similar to Avery Ranch soon. With Rogelio Denova helping to build the Toptracer boxes, he may start the pre-emerge plan a little later.
• We trimmed back all plants on the course this month and at the clubhouse.
• All tree work is very close to being done and did a little extra on the left of #15. We still have a few big trees to work on #13.
• We will also be moving the water cooler on #4 back to #3 and #11 to #12. We feel this will space them out a little bit more and will look better for the coolers to sit. We also may change #6.

Avery Ranch Golf Club

• We do two applications about two months apart. We started to spray our first round of spring pre-emerge on Feb. 17. 
• We are on our last hole (#15) trimming trees. We will work around the clubhouse and then be done.
• We added a few truckloads of crushed granite behind the range tee box to clean up the look and help with the amount of traffic we get behind the mats.
• We will start spiking/slicing our roughs and fairways this month to help with compaction from carts before spring. 

ALL Courses

• Toptracer has been installed and superintendent Rogelio Denova from Teravista Golf Club is installing cedar covers around each tower to clean up the look at each course. Teravista is first, then Avery Ranch, and last will be Falconhead.
• We had a decent amount of rain in the latter part of January and early February. We appreciate the help staying in the dry areas and obeying the cart signs. This time of year it takes the course a little longer to dry after heavy rains.

NEW MEMBERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

As you may recall, Magnolia Golf Management has been researching the benefits and effects by working towards implementation of the following two new membership opportunities at Falconhead Golf Club.

• Lower monthly dues for Full Privilege Members
• Introduction of the NEW Falconhead Weekday Membership

We are excited to announce both opportunities have been approved and will be implemented in the coming months.

LOWER MONTHLY DUES

As we discussed last fall, we introduced a member referral initiative aimed at welcoming enough new members so all Full Privilege Members could experience new lower dues. The below adjustments will be made to all members of the club on June 1, 2020.

• Full Privilege Individual Members’ monthly payments will go from $450 to $425
• Full Privilege Family Members’ monthly payments will go from $499 to $455

Magnolia Members paying $300/month for Individual and $350/month for Family will remain the same.

FALCONHEAD WEEKDAY MEMBERSHIP

The new Falconhead Weekday Membership has been slowly introduced during this challenging time to benefit those who seek to play Monday-Friday. The details of the Weekday Membership are listed below.

Weekday Membership provides complimentary Green Fees, Cart Fees, and Range Plan for Falconhead Golf Club Monday-Friday. As a Falconhead Weekday Member, you have unlimited use of the practice facilities, unlimited green fees, and a 20% discount off most of our services and food at the club. Reservations may be made up to (7) seven days in advance.

• Individual Dues – $300.00/month
• Family Dues – $400.00/month

Upgrade Opportunity

Any Players Club members who wish to upgrade their membership to the new Weekday category can do so immediately by emailing Brandon Towns at Brandon.Towns@MagnoliaGolfManagement.com.

Downgrade Opportunity

Current Falconhead Members will have the opportunity to join the membership as of July 1, 2020. This allows Magnolia Golf Management time to offset the loss in revenue from downgrading members without sacrificing the quality of the product and service provided at the Club. Current members can email Brandon Towns at Brandon.Towns@MagnoliaGolfManagement.com to get your name on the list to downgrade July 1, 2020.

Hello Everyone - Here is an update of what we have going on with maintenance for all of our courses.

ALL Courses

• We have finished spiking all fairways at each course.
• We are in the final stages of transitioning from winter poa to tiff eagle bermuda grass on the greens. The transition is going smoothly.
• We have sprayed white grub control on all courses in areas of need.
• The final of two spring/summer pre-emerge applications went out in May with the next one scheduled for August/September based on temperatures. 
• The final fungicide application for the Spring went out recently and will start the summer program the first week of June.
• We spiked all three courses in early May and will spike them again in mid-June. This process is done monthly with very little interruption during all spring and summer months.   
• Our second application of growth regulators for the fairways has gone out late May and early June around the rainfall. 
• Please avoid jumping curbs with the golf cart both on and off of the golf course. We are experiencing a lot of front-end problems with the golf carts and most of them are caused by exiting the curb and turning at the same time or jumping the curbs onto the course. Thank you for your help with this as our mechanics are helping fix carts on top of what their daily jobs are with grinding, sharpening, oil changes, and keeping the equipment running smoothly for maintenance alone. The more they have to fix, the more it takes away from the job consistency for the course.
