Hi friends,

My name is L?kan Mabayoje, and I wanted to personally introduce myself as the Chair for the upcoming 52nd Dallas Show scheduled for Saturday, June 05, 2021. Our team has been hard at work since July, evaluating current operations and the overall Dallas Show experience and we are excited to announce several new features.

First, we're kicking off a new streamlined submission process. Historically, participants have had to factor in multiple things into the total cost of an entry: entry fees, printing, packaging, and shipping fees. For 2021, all entries will now be submitted digitally on our new online judging platform. Additionally, creative works done in 2019 and 2020 (2 years) will be allowed for entry submission to help give the creative community a 5-star show.

Second, is an all-new judging process. Part of what makes the Dallas Show unique is the hospitality rendered in service of the judges selected for the Show. To leverage the all-new submission process, I am happy to share our two-phased judging process. The first phase will be judged digitally; selected entries will be stamped into the Show gallery and eligible for awards. The second phase will require only selected entries to be shipped. Per tradition, judges will be treated to a memorable weekend in Dallas as they judge the Show selections for awards.

This is just a taste of the many things the team has been working on. As part of The Dallas Society of Visual Communications (DSVC), the Dallas Show is here to celebrate the creative excellence of all creative professionals across different phases of their journey, while collectively raising the standard from our backyard and beyond. Our greatest strength lies in the power of our community-the connections that transcend distance and time. Our commitment to the creative community has never changed, and I look forward to working together and continuing to grow. Whether he's making visuals to announce the launch of Nike's latest trainers or travel posters for Airbnb, Karan's distinctive work is always packed full of patterns. Truly multidisciplinary, his work encompasses illustrations, GIFs, animations, 3D motion graphics and more for myriad applications, from print to social media and TV, to set designs for photo shoots, and projections for art shows and musical performances.

It is with a heavy heart that we are announcing the cancellation of this year''s 2020 Dallas Show. The Dallas Show has proudly celebrated 51 years of recognizing the region''s top creative work. For the safety and health of our judges, committee, and community, it was no longer feasible to hold the type of event we are used to hosting. While we had tried to transition to a completely digital approach for our judging, the latest Shelter In Place initiatives and general economic uncertainty has made it very clear to us it is in everyone''s best interest to cancel this year. We wish everyone the best and we look forward to seeing your future creative endeavors at Dallas Show 2021.

The Dallas Show is the leading juried competition + awards show for professionals in the Southwest. We seek to recognize and honor the region's top creative work in advertising, design, interactive, illustration, and photography.

Gail Anderson is an NYC-based designer, educator, and writer. She is Chair of BFA Design and BFA Advertising at the School of Visual Arts, and the creative director at Visual Arts Press. Anderson has served as a senior art director at Rolling Stone, creative director of design at SpotCo, and as a designer at The Boston Globe Sunday Magazine and Vintage Books.

She has taught at SVA for thirty years and has co-authored 15 books on design, typography, and illustration with the fabulous Steven Heller.

Anderson serves on the Citizens'' Stamp Advisory Committee for the US Postal Service and the advisory board of Poster House. She is an AIGA Medalist and the 2018 recipient of the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Lifetime Achievement Award for Design.

Her work is represented in the permanent collections of the Library of Congress, the Milton Glaser Design Archives, and the National Museum of African American History and Culture.

We will host a live awards gala this Saturday, April 25th at 8pm CST  on the NSSC Youtube Channel to award winners $20,000 in scholarships and cash prizes. 

The National Student Show & Conference (NSSC) is a professionally judged creative competition who''s purpose is to help undergraduates become successful creative professionals. Students from all over the nation have entered their work for the opportunity to win scholarship money and bragging rights. 

Nationally-recognized judges selected the best student work and have awarded $20,000 in scholarships and cash prizes.

The National Student Show and Conference (NSSC) is funded and supported by the DSVC Foundation. The DSVC Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides aid through scholarships to high school and college students who are interested in taking the next steps toward a visual arts career. In an abundance of caution, due to the Covid 19 Pandemic we will only accept digital entries to this year's scholarship competition. If you have any concerns about your ability to meet the digital requirements, but would still like to enter please contact us at foundation@dsvc.org.

Purpose
Visual Communication, in general, is misunderstood and many people within the visual arts "stumbled" into it after forming an interest in fine arts. Parents may discourage talented students from continuing in this direction because they are unfamiliar with the many career possibilities. Through scholarships, the DSVC Foundation seeks to help assist these high school seniors who wish to pursue a career in the visual arts by providing aid to help ease the first year financial college burden.

Scholarships
There are 3 primary scholarships awarded. Judges will determine the scholarship amounts based on the quality of work and need. Scholarships typically range between $4,500-$5,000 total.

• D.C. Stipp Memorial Scholarship - Top Portfolio
• The Chris Rovillo Memorial Scholarship - 2nd Portfolio
• Paul Jerde Inspiration Scholarship - 3rd Portfolio

There are often additional scholarships awarded to students who may also show potential and need. These scholarships are funded through donations at the Dream Drive Golf Tournament held each Spring in partnership with the DSVC and the Dream Fund.

The D.C. Stipp Memorial Scholarship, Chris Rovillo Memorial Scholarship and Paul Jerde Inspiration Scholarship are awarded to graduating senior students in area high schools. To qualify the student must meet all of the following criteria:

• Full-time student enrolled in a DFW Metroplex high school for the entire year
• Planning to major or minor in the visual arts field
• Maintain a minimum of a B or equivalent grade point average
• Provide samples of student's artwork
• Scholarship recipients may attend a university, community college, design school or an accredited art school. The payment of the awarded scholarship will then be made directly to the school in the student's name.

Digital Entry instructions:

1. Save all files into a folder using the following naming convention: LastName_FirstName
2. Zip your folder into a single compressed file.
3. Upload your .zip file to DSVC Foundation HS Scholarship Application
4. Once the .zip file has been uploaded, send an email to foundation@dsvc.org to confirm your entry.

We have been following the news circulating around COVID-19 and hope that you and your family remain safe and healthy. The DSVC Board of Directors believes we all have a responsibility to limit spread and minimize the broader impact of the virus. As part of that responsibility, we have canceled our April monthly speaker meeting.

Additionally, other planned events for Spring will also be impacted during this time and we are working diligently on scheduling and online solutions. 

We will continue to monitor the impact this has on our industry and provide our member base with up-to-date knowledge. We believe in the power of visual communications to bring us all together in challenging times and are encouraging feedback from our members, partners, and broader Dallas community on how the DSVC can support all of you during such an unprecedented moment for the world and for the visual arts community.

The 52nd Dallas Show call for entries is open! Entry submission process is changing to online....
Celebrating its 52nd year, the Dallas Show is the leading juried competition and awards show for creatives in the Southwest. All Dallas Show entries will need to be submitted online through the website. and we are extending the entry submission deadline to now be Friday, April 17th. The show itself is still scheduled for Saturday, June 13th at the Fashion Industry Gallery - we will be closely monitoring current events with COVID-19 and inform you of any changes or updates.

For over twenty years, the DSVC DREAM Drive has raised funds to support high school students with college scholarships and to support creative professionals with relief funds in times of need. Temi was born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria and now resides in Dallas, TX with his wife, Afritina Coker. He is an Adobe Creative Resident Alumni (2018-2019) and is co-founder of Coker Studio. A few clients of Temi''s include Adobe, Apple, HarperCollins, Twitter, Google, HBO, Facebook, and more.

His mix of vibrant colors and textures comes from his upbringing in Nigeria as well as his love for the African Diaspora. His style focuses on evoking emotion through color, pattern, and storytelling.
