Initial Public Notice: Flood Elevation Program
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has released a public notice with the intent to provide federal financial assistance to Sonoma County under the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program to elevate 11 homes in the 100-year floodplain at least one foot above the floodplain elevation.

Revised Third Party Plan Check
As part of our continued pursuit of process improvements, Permit Sonoma has revised the Third Party Plan Check policy (BPC-013). The goal of the revision is to reduce permit processing time by removing some of the obstacles in our previous practice.

Spare the Air Alert
Bay Area Air Quality Management has issued a Spare the Air Alert through Wednesday, September 25, 2019.

Permit Requirements for Back-up Generators
During a power de-energization event, a generator can provide emergency electrical power to your home. If you live in unincorporated Sonoma County and plan to use a generator that connects to your electrical panel, you will need a permit from Permit Sonoma for the electrical work. If the generator will be housed in a structure of its own, the structure may be subject to additional permits.

Heat Advisory and Possible Power Shut off
The National Weather Service is forecasting hot temperatures throughout the region and in Sonoma County over the next few days. Sonoma County will see high temperatures today Tuesday September 24, 2019 beginning at 11:00 am until 8:00 pm tomorrow September 25, 2019 with several areas in the County moving into the orange and red level HeatRisk forecast.

The National Weather Service has issued a Fire Weather Watch for vast portions of Northern California. PG&E is considering conducting a power shutoff across portions of approximately 30 counties including Sonoma County. The County of Sonoma is following the situation closely to respond appropriately.

A Fire Weather Watch has been issued for Sonoma County from Wednesday 5 a.m. (10/9) to Thursday 5 p.m. for strong and gusty offshore winds and low humidity. PG&E has issued a Public Safety Power Shutoff Watch for Wednesday, October 9th, 2019 at 4:00 a.m. until Thursday, October 10th, 2019 at noon affecting the County. If fire weather conditions persist, PG&E may potentially shut power off.

Fire Prevention Week Reminds Households to Plan Ahead
Permit Sonoma’s Fire Prevention Division invites the public to celebrate Fire Prevention Week, October 6-12, 2019. The National Fire Protection Association’s (NFPA) theme for the week “Not Every Hero Wears a Cape. PG&E to Start Restoring Power Today
Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) has notified the County of Sonoma that it has begun to conduct equipment inspections to restore power to the 200,000 residents in Sonoma County affected by the Power Shutoff.

PG&E implemented the scheduled power shutoff across areas in Sonoma County. This is due to severe weather conditions that carry significant fire risk, specifically high winds and low humidity. Approximately 200,000 Sonoma County residents have been affected.

Permit Sonoma to Reopen on Monday, November 4, 2019
Permit Sonoma's main Permit Center and Resiliency Permit Center are reopening to the public on Monday, November 4, 2019.  This includes the resumption of regular inspections (except for inspections for Building permits) in areas that are not under mandatory evacuation and are not in the Kincade Fire burn area. Building inspectors are still needed to perform rapid evaluation safety assessments (RESAs) of structures affected by the Kincade Fire.

Air Quality Health Advisory - Updated

Although containment of the Kincade Fire is progressing and the skies appear clearer, changing weather conditions over the next few days will lead to increased air pollution. Air quality levels are currently within the good range due to offshore winds and decreasing smoke. Northerly winds near the Ranch Fire in Tehama County will allow some smoke to move toward the Bay Area.

Household Hazardous Waste Removal Process to Begin for Properties Impacted by the Kincade

The County of Sonoma will conduct an initial Household Hazardous Waste sweep on properties impacted by the Kincade Fire to protect the public and the environment.

County Conducts Initial Damage Assessments

Permit Sonoma is conducting initial damage assessments on an estimated 59 buildings damaged by the Kincade Fire. Rapid Evaluation Safety Assessment, also known as RESA, allows people to inhabit and use safe homes and businesses, and ensures that people are prohibited from entering unsafe structures.

Board of Supervisors Approves the Establishment of a Psychiatric Health Facility in the County

Today the Board of Supervisors approved the Department of Health Services (DHS) to establish a Psychiatric Health Facility (PHF) called the Sonoma County Healing Center.

The PHF will be located at the former Valley of the Moon Children''s Center (VOMCC) located at 7440 Los Guilicos Road in Santa Rosa and DHS has contracted with Crestwood Behavioral Health, Inc., to operate the PHF that will provide much needed acute care psychiatric beds to County DHS. The County anticipates the PHF will open as soon as the end of 2020 or early 2021.

Sonoma County's health officer today issued a modified parks closure order to allow residents to walk or bike to parks from their homes beginning April 29, 2020.
