In this vital decade, we must ensure that momentum in the fight against climate change is maintained - even in the ever-changing circumstances we all find ourselves in. We're working with existing partners and developing new relationships to deliver reductions in global emissions and sustainable development outcomes.
We're constantly inspired by the resiliency of our project partners and the people they work with on the ground; in these trying times, the projects we work with continue to reduce global emissions and improve lives. There's more on how a selection of our core projects have coped with and adapted to the pandemic below.
We're also delighted to announce that ClimateCare has been ranked the Best Project Developer in the Voluntary Carbon Market and shortlisted for the BusinessGreen Company of the Year award. There's so much more to do in the fight against climate change, but we're proud of our record since we formed in 1997 - having cut 43 million tonnes of emissions and improved 41 million lives around the world.
We'd love to help you move forward on your climate neutral journey and for you to join us on the path to sustainable business.
Client News
We recently began working with leading European private equity firm, Triton Partners. Triton is highly engaged with Environmental and Social Governance (ESG) topics and is supporting its portfolio of companies to take responsibility for their residual emissions.
Our experts worked closely with the Triton ESG team to create and deliver a sector-leading carbon offsetting programme that reduces emissions and changes lives globally.
In August, we featured in an article alongside Triton in the Sunday Times' Responsible Investment supplement, talking about the need for investment houses to take responsibility for their emissions and the business benefits of doing so.
Project News
We are working closely with our partners and the carbon standards to adapt processes to COVID-19 restrictions. This means that carbon finance can continue to flow to projects and the vulnerable populations they serve, bringing environmental, social, health, and economic benefits to local communities.
Gyapa cookstoves - Ghana
Ghana was brought to a standstill at the peak of the coronavirus. The project team arranged a one-off payment for stove manufacturers and distributors, providing a lifeline while they were unable to work. Gyapa commercial stoves were also distributed to soup kitchens to feed the most vulnerable during the peak of the crisis.
More on the Gyapa cookstoves project.
Gola REDD - Sierra Leone
Following recommendations that International staff return home before lockdowns were imposed, the project's core local team are managing the programmes in their absence. COVID-19 is a serious issue in Sierra Leone, as it is in most other countries in the region - but the number of cases has thankfully been relatively low to date.

Aqua Clara safe water - Kenya
The team at Aqua Clara regard tacking coronavirus as 'their battle'. While sales are limited, they established handwashing stations in key community spaces and are distributing water-purifying sachets to potential customers, as well as elevating handwashing and distancing messages.

Woodland and peatlands, UK
At ClimateCare, we are actively developing new woodland carbon projects, like the Boor Farm project in the Scottish Highlands, as well as partnering with existing ones. We're also developing projects for the nascent peatland carbon market and exploring other UK-based natural climate solutions.

Expert advice
We recently began an exciting two-phase piece of work with Loughborough University to develop a methodology for measuring and verifying emissions reductions from electric cooking - building on our previous innovation work for clean cookstoves. When the methodology is established and approved, we will then take a pilot project through the registration and commercialisation process.
Our work with the government of Kenya and GIZ to support the country's updated NDC submission to the UNFCCC continues at full speed. Conducting stakeholder consultations has been challenging with restrictions, but provides essential insight into the mechanics of carbon accounting at the national level. It also highlights public/private funding gaps and potential structures that will help meet and exceed the country's mitigation and adaptation targets.
We also recognise that we must be relentless in our efforts to bring about long-term climate action and have been working on several innovative initiatives that focus on expanding access to clean air and water in the developing world, as well as catalysing the implementation of essential land and coastal ecosystem rehabilitation work. More to be announced soon.

Sign up to hear about the Race to Net Zero from the UK''s High Level Climate Action Champion
Hi Andrew,
You''re invited to a ClimateCare webinar with Nigel Topping, the UK's High Level Climate Action Champion for COP26.
As more and more countries and corporates declare Net Zero targets, we've asked Nigel to give his opinion on whether such targets are achievable, and the role of voluntary carbon offsetting in achieving them.
Nigel will also talk about the UN Race to Zero initiative, and preview next year's COP26 by sharing his views on what may be agreed at - what many consider to be - the most important UN climate change meeting since Paris 2015.
With delegate numbers limited, we expect the session to fill up quickly - so make sure to book your place.

Date: Monday 23 November.
