Koala joey born at Cleveland Metroparks Zoo!

For the first time in nearly 10 years, Cleveland Metroparks Zoo has a baby koala, also known as a joey! Guests now have a chance to visit mom and joey at Gumleaf Hideout in Australian Adventure on even numbered calendar dates between 11:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

Cleveland Metroparks Zoo is open daily from 9:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. While capacity is limited for social distancing, reservations for general admission are no longer required.

Monarch migration underway!

Each year between late August and early October, thousands of monarch butterflies embark from southern Canada on a 2,500-mile trek south to Mexico. Park naturalists have already spotted early migrants as they stop to rest in our parks, backyards and greenspaces. Stay tuned to Cleveland Metroparks virtual classrooms each weekday at 1 p.m. for updates on natural phenomena in Cleveland Metroparks. While the weather has to be just right for thousands of monarchs to arrive to our lakefront at once, park naturalists are on the lookout for updates to share.

Gorge Loop Trail is the newest addition to the 2020 Trail Challenge

If you’re looking for an entirely new trail to explore, the Gorge Loop Trail is West Creek Reservation’s newest addition, providing a new natural surface trail for mountain bikers, runners and hikers. The trail was built entirely by hand and opened in fall 2019. The trail is a highlight on the 2020 Trail Challenge presented by Cigna.

There’s still time to visit this year’s Asian Lantern Festival!

Due to popular demand, Cleveland Metroparks Zoo’s Asian Lantern Festival presented by Cleveland Clinic Children’s has been extended through Sunday, September 20, 2020. There’s still time to experience the full walk-through event and drive-through option. Due to COVID-19, there is limited capacity each night of the festival. Celebrate 50 Years of Earth Day with Cleveland Metroparks

Wednesday, April 22 marks 50 years of Earth Day and Cleveland Metroparks has planned a number of ways you join our conservation community from home and show appreciation for the planet.

Join Cleveland Metroparks Zoo’s Facebook Page at 11 a.m. for the Virtual Classroom sponsored by Raising Cane’s. The animal care team will be showcasing the Zoo’s seal and sea lion training, a popular program from the annual Party for the Planet celebration.

Trick-or-Treat at Cleveland Metroparks Zoo!

Trick-or-Treat Fest presented by Citizens begins at Cleveland Metroparks Zoo next week! Enjoy spook-tacular live performances, access to Trick-or-Treat Way presented by Wayside Furniture featuring more than a dozen candy stations, meet-and-greets with costume characters and unlimited rides on the Circle of Wildlife Carousel and entry to the Dinosaurs Around the World exhibit.

Join us for a fall program in Cleveland Metroparks!

Cleveland Metroparks naturalists will be leading daily guided hikes and other recreational programs beginning this Saturday, October 17. The outdoor adventures are available for all ages and include birding, history, night hikes, Trail Challenge, family-friendly hikes, kayaking, mountain biking and more.

Advance online reservations are required and group size per program will be limited to a maximum of 10 people. Due to demand, guests are limited to one program per week. Program schedules and registration will be posted two weeks in advance. Register now at clevelandmetroparks.com/oe.

Fall rates now available at Cleveland Metroparks golf courses

Cleveland Metroparks Zoo Offers Limited Drive-Through Experience at Asian Lantern Festival

Cleveland Metroparks Zoo is offering guests a chance to experience Asian Lantern Festival from the comfort of their vehicle. Guests will get to enjoy more than 70 never-before-seen lantern displays at a special drive-through experience. Advance online reservations are required for entry, limited reservations are still available on Monday, August 24 and Tuesday, August 25 from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Entry is $54 per car for Zoo members and $60 per car for non-members.

This year’s Asian Lantern Festival presented by Cleveland Clinic Children’s is bigger than ever and guests who wish to enjoy the full-festival experience, including four live acrobatic performances on the Fifth Third Bank stage each night and a variety of culturally-inspired cuisine, can still purchase tickets for the walk-through experience running Wednesday through Sunday evenings 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. through August 23. Day visits to Cleveland Metroparks Zoo no longer require reservations

For the convenience of our guests, Cleveland Metroparks Zoo is no longer requiring advance reservations for day visits. Reduced capacity, social distancing measures and frequent cleaning and sanitation will continue for the safety of our guests, staff and animals. Previous reservations will still be honored, and guests can still purchase tickets in advance online or at the Box Office. Cleveland Metroparks Zoo is open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Trail Challenge expanded in 2020

With over 300 miles of trails to explore, Cleveland Metroparks is expanding its annual Trail Challenge presented by Cigna to help guide park exploration and adventure in the age of social distancing. The free program offers 35 unique routes and trails across the Emerald Necklace that range in distance from a half-mile to 10 miles. Guests can take the challenge on some or all of the 35 designated trails and earn rewards for completing them.

Cleveland Metroparks received an outpouring of support for the Match Challenge set forth by several donors in early July. With park and trail use reaching historic highs, the Match Challenge offered supporters a way to double their impact to preserve and expand the park’s trail network. The goal of $30,000 was exceeded thanks to generous donations.

Dinosaurs Around the World Exhibition is Coming to Cleveland Metroparks Zoo

Cleveland Metroparks Zoo is reopened! Daily reservations for general admission are now available through July 17, 2020 at FutureForWildlife.org/reopen.

Beginning July 1 Dinosaurs Around the World: The Great Outdoors is coming to Cleveland Metroparks Zoo! During all Zoo visits, guests will have an opportunity to embark on a prehistoric adventure and experience nearly two dozen dinosaurs as they come to life along Waterfowl Lake, including the mighty T. Rex, standing nearly two stories high and the gigantic Spinosaurus that stretches more than 40 feet. Tickets for the add-on experience are $2 for members/$3 for nonmembers. Contribute to Cleveland Metroparks study on Cleveland’s eastern lakeshore

Cleveland Metroparks and partners invite you to kick-off the year-long planning process for CHEERS (the Cleveland Harbor Eastern Embayment Resilience Study) on Tuesday, June 30 at 6 p.m. via Zoom. The year-long study will focus on leveraging nature-based solutions to improve the environment, reconnect communities to the lake, enhance public health and wellness, bolster the economy, and improve aquatic and terrestrial habitats. Swimming Opens at Villa Angela Beach

Swimming will open for the season at Villa Angela Beach in Euclid Creek Reservation starting Thursday, June 25. Park staff have been able to successfully modify a portion of the swim area and guarded swim hours will be Thursdays through Sundays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. For more information on swimming visit clevelandmetroparks.com.

More to Explore This Summer at Cleveland Metroparks Zoo

Don’t miss your ticket to summer fun with Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. The Zoo is now open for daytime visits seven days a week. Come experience the outdoor animal habitats across the Zoo’s 183 acres including the new Daniel Maltz Rhino Reserve. Advance reservations are required and guests are required to wear facial coverings during their visit. Facial coverings are not required for children under 6 years of age. Tickets through July 19 are on sale now.

Experience Dinosaurs Around the World

For a limited time, experience Dinosaurs Around the World: The Great Outdoors. Embark on a prehistoric adventure learning about the dinosaurs that once roamed Earth’s seven continents. Located near Waterfowl Lake, see 20 animatronic dinosaurs, including a T. rex standing two stories high and the gigantic amphibious Spinosaurus that stretches more than 40 feet. Dinosaurs Around the World: The Great Outdoors is supported by Cleveland Clinic Children's.

Admission is $2 for members, $3 for nonmembers. General Zoo admission is also required. Adventurers can secure tickets day of at several locations including Box Office, 4-D Theater, Circle of Wildlife Carousel and Boomerang Line Train.

Asian Lantern Festival returns tonight bigger than ever with more than 70 never-before-seen lantern displays, new acrobatic performances on the Fifth Third Bank Stage, interactive experiences and culturally-inspired cuisine.

To allow for proper social distancing, there will be a limited number of tickets available each night of Asian Lantern Festival and advance reservations are strongly recommended. Cleveland Metroparks Zoo will also have several safety measures during the festival to protect against COVID-19 including one-way directional flow through the event, handwashing stations and frequent sanitation of Zoo grounds. Guests are required to wear facial coverings during their visit. Facial coverings are not required for children under 6 years of age.

The festival will feature new creative displays including a 200 foot-long phoenix that sprawls across Waterfowl Lake, dynamic walk-through displays and a towering six-story tall colorful pagoda. Four live acrobatic performances can be seen on the Fifth Third Bank stage each night including juggling, dancing and acrobatic acts. The festival will also feature a variety of culturally-inspired food and beverage, including local favorites Li Wah and King Wah as well as some of the Zoo’s regular concessions, such as Kiko’s Kitchen, and Pizza Hut will also be available for purchase.

The new Dinosaurs Around the World: The Great Outdoors exhibition is also included in the purchase of each Asian Lantern Festival ticket.

The limited time, after-hours event will run Wednesday through Sunday evenings 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. July 8 through August 23. Tickets are available at FutureForWildlife.org/lanterns.

Improvements underway at The RainForest

Since 1992, the dome that formerly sat atop The RainForest served as both an iconic architectural display at Cleveland Metroparks Zoo as well as shelter above the home of 10,000 plants and 600 animals. This week, an all-new dome that will feature state-of-the-art technology was raised up by one of the largest cranes in Ohio. Once complete this fall, the new structure will improve lighting, energy efficiency and animal habitats in The RainForest.

Tickets Now Available for Cleveland Metroparks Zoo's Reopening

Tickets are now available for Cleveland Metroparks Zoo’s reopening! For guest safety, reservations to Cleveland Metroparks Zoo are now required for all visitors and reservations are now available for June 17 through June 30 at FutureForWildlife.org/reopen.

Know Before You Go!

Cleveland Metroparks Zoo will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily beginning June 17. Both members and non-members are strongly recommended to purchase and/or reserve their tickets in advance. Advance reservations allow the Zoo to manage attendance and allow for a touch-less transaction.

For Your Safety:

Several exhibit areas will operate in one-way directional flow including Rosebrough Tiger Passage, Asian Highlands, Wolf Lodge and African Elephant Crossing.

Handwashing stations are located across Zoo grounds for guests to wash their hands frequently.

Zoo staff will be frequently sanitizing all high touch areas including restrooms, doors, glass, railings, KeyBank ZooKey boxes and ride attractions each hour. Additionally, all Zoo employees are required to wear protective face coverings. Guests are encouraged to follow CDC guidelines and wear facial coverings during their visit but facial coverings are not required.

Concessions, Gift Shops & Other Guest Amenities:

All Zoo concessions except The RainForest Caf? will be open, weather permitting. The Zoo's gift shop will also be open. Guest queues and food court tables will be designated to provide social distancing.

Restrooms, drinking fountains, nursing facilities and first aid stations will be open.

Wheelchair and stroller rentals will be disinfected between uses.

Closed Areas, Attractions and Services:

Some Zoo areas, attractions and services will be closed or unavailable due to operational constraints caused by COVID-19:

Playground areas will remain closed.
The Contact Yard and Camel Ride experience will be closed.
Tram service will not be available.
Interiors of certain buildings may be closed at times depending on capacity or staff limitations.

Pricing:

General admission tickets for non-members is $16.95 for adults, $14.95 for seniors (age 62 and older) and $12.95 for children (ages 2 – 12). Tickets are not required for children under two.

Cleveland Metroparks Virtual Classroom Brings Nature to Your Home

Tune in each weekday to Cleveland Metroparks free Virtual Classroom on Facebook Live and learn about nature, discover native wildlife and see your favorite animals at Cleveland Metroparks Zoo.

Mondays through Fridays at 11 a.m. visit Cleveland Metroparks Zoo’s Facebook Page to join our biologists who are working to secure a future for wildlife at Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. Check-in with your favorite Zoo animals and learn about what it takes to care for some of the most endangered species in the world.

Then, at 1 p.m., visit Cleveland Metroparks Facebook Page to join our park naturalists as we explore the Emerald Necklace and look for early signs of spring, learn about the forest floor, birds and more.

We hope the virtual classrooms will help keep families busy and engaged, perhaps inspiring independent outdoor exploration alongside Cleveland Metroparks.

Reminder: Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, Mastick Woods, Little Met and Cleveland Metroparks indoor public facilities are currently closed until at least March 31 due to precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19). Get Active this Winter to Support Cleveland Metroparks Trails

Cleveland Metroparks Virtual Centennial Trail 5K is a great way to get active this winter by walking or running in support of Cleveland Metroparks growing trail network.

Registration is now open and one hundred percent of proceeds benefit the Cleveland Metroparks Trails Fund, which is helping to maintain and expand our growing network of natural surface trails. Participants can show their registration at the Winter RiverFest Holiday Shop at Merwin’s Wharf during festival hours to redeem a free hot chocolate and their Virtual Centennial Trail 5K medal.

Participation in the Virtual 5K is open now through Monday, January 18 at clevelandmetroparks.com/Virtual5K. Participants can complete the walk or run on the suggested course or choose a trail of their own!
