Your library catalog experience is about to make a giant leap forward. We’re working on upgrading our catalog to a new system to bring you a powerful and easier-to-use online search experience.

Heads up — as part of the transition process, our catalog will be offline October 5-7. Checkouts and renewals will operate as usual on the bookmobile and at the Windsor-Severance Library, and apps, like Libby and Hoopla, will not be affected.

A new way to temporarily request Interlibrary Loan materials.

We were recently notified that the Colorado statewide Interlibrary Loan service, SWIFT, will migrate shortly to a new platform. In order to do this, SWIFT will stop accepting Interlibrary Loan requests through SWIFT as of the end of day today, Friday, Nov. 13, through the end of the year.

You can still place an Interlibrary Loan request through our staff by completing the form online, or by filling out a paper request form at the help desk of the Windsor-Severance Library or when visiting the bookmobile.

Interlibrary Loan gives you the opportunity to check out materials from a network of Colorado libraries, multiplying your borrowing power. We’ll join the Prospector network soon — stay tuned!

The Windsor-Severance Library will move to Takeout service only starting 9 a.m. November 21.

Dear Library Community Members,

With the number of positive cases of COVID-19 in Weld County on the rise and several staff members in precautionary quarantine, we’ve made the decision to close the Windsor-Severance Library and move to Library Takeout service only as of 9 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, to help keep our staff and the public safe.

What This Means

Bookdrops at the Town of Severance Town Hall and in front of the Windsor-Severance Library will be open for returns. We will continue to hold materials for 72 hours prior to checking items in.
Library Takeout will remain available for curbside, contactless check out of materials.
The bookmobile will maintain its normal routes for delivery and pick up of materials. Community members will not be allowed on board for browsing.
All virtual programs and services will continue.

We’ll continue to monitor the situation, and will provide updates as things evolve. Thank you for your understanding and support.

Windsor-Severance Library Reopens After Three Months

“We’re so happy you’re open!” “It’s so great to be back.” “We’ve missed coming to the library!” As we reopened our doors to our Third Street Location on June 29, patrons shared these heartwarming sentiments with us. Behind masks, staff and patrons alike were grinning ear to ear.

“Everyone so far has been delighted to know that they can come into the library or on the bookmobile again and browse our shelves for something that will delight or inspire them,” said Director Ann Kling. “And our staff are just as happy to see our patrons again."

Log in to wsld.info. Make sure to enter your old login information.

Select Saved Lists

Under the dropdown arrow by your name (upper right), select "Saved Lists."

Click Print List

At the top of your list, click "Print List."

Click Print

In the new window that pops up, click the blue "Print" button.

Library and School District Partner to Bring e-Books to Students

In the face of the pandemic, one thing didn’t stop: learning. Teachers, students, and parents rallied together last spring to continue the learning cycle in the digital realm.

Over the summer, the Weld RE-4 School District was able to evaluate their digital classroom needs and plan for a variety of learning contingencies in the fall.

“Our school libraries have a very limited number of e-book and audiobook options,” shared Weld RE-4 School District’s Mollie Amundson. “When we transitioned quickly to remote learning, we realized our huge need for digital reading material.”

Library IT & Technical Services Manager Bud Hunt discovered a way for Weld RE-4 classrooms to access the library’s entire digital collection.

Online Catalog System Offline October 5-7

A more powerful and easier-to-use online catalog experience is almost ready. When we make the switch, our catalog will be offline October 5-7. Checkouts and renewals will operate as usual on the bookmobile and at the Windsor-Severance Library, and apps, like Libby and Hoopla, will not be affected.

A core belief of libraries across the nation is that we are “forums for information and ideas,” which is reinforced by the first four tenants in the American Library Association’s Library Bill of Rights. These four items focus on upholding intellectual freedom. Banned Books Week (September 27 - October 3) celebrates the freedom to read and brings attention to efforts to censor or restrict access to materials across the country. Check out some of these titles that appeared on the ALA’s Top 10 Most Challenged Books of 2019 list.

Board of Trustees Continues to Explore Space Options for the Future

Faced with an exponentially growing community — 200,000 residents projected by 2045 — our district is feeling the full effect of growing pains and inadequate space now for a district of nearly 27,000 residents.

Currently, the Third Street building ranks in the bottom half of libraries in square footage per capita in the state. To be in the upper half, we need to increase our square footage from 17,000 square feet to between 27,040 and 41,764. This would allow us to continue to provide all of our residents with the resources they need and the level of service they deserve.
