When we were kids, some of our friends' moms were diagnosed with breast cancer. We didn't understand much about it since we were young, and of course we thought it would never happen to our mom‚ she was superwoman!
As we now know, these diseases do not discriminate. In 2010, our mom was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer. After 3 years of fighting relentlessly with determination, strength, grace, and not to mention, humor, our mom lost her battle with Ovarian Cancer. Since then, another friend’s mom also passed away from Ovarian Cancer. It's overwhelming when we sit back and think how many of our loved ones have been impacted by these diseases.
After looking into organizations to get involved with for a cause that is close to our hearts, one of our friends told us about Bright Pink. After learning more, we knew this incredible organization had to be the beneficiary of our Cycle for Suz fundraiser.
In just this year, we had over 150 riders between our Cycle for Suz events in New York City, Chicago and South Florida. We created these events as a way to raise money for Bright Pink and to educate the riders. After our fun and uplifting spin class, we close each event by giving our riders action items.
Female attendees have told us that they finally called their doctor after skipping last years annual visit. Others have told us, the event made them curious enough about their family medical history that they sat down with their parents to learn more.
Our mom was an advocate for others, and we love that through Bright Pink we can continue this legacy. Bright Pink has helped us get our friends and family talking about something that could prove to be live-saving for themselves and/or their loved ones.
We are optimistic about the future generations of women knowing that Bright Pink is so focused on the prevention and early detection of breast and ovarian cancer in young women.
