Notice how the bottom (pear) stays large. Pear is for Parasympathetic (PNS), rest, digest, heal and accessing creativity. Note the opposites of rest, digest and heal and you have the key factors why stress is tied to some 80% or more of all illness.
The breathing wave should, as often as possible, have the foundation of the parasympathetic. The PNS foundation needs to be MAINTAINED REGARDLESS OF THE SITUATION.
Otherwise our alpha state and mental focus are severely compromised. We are less able to maintain connection with our internal selves and purpose, to sustain individual integrity and/or simultaneously work in teams to solve complex problems with positive social impact.
As soon as the bottom of the PEAR (parasympathetic strength) gets smaller, and excessive stress enters the equation, then the breathing foundation as well gets smaller and we quickly trend towards chest breathing and over stimulation fight or flight freeze, fake it, fumble, mumble, "choke" as in sports, or stumble.
