Next week, escape with us to a fun and surreal world, thanks to Aszure Barton''s Fantastic Beings.

In this inventive work, twenty dancers become "all manner of slinky, sensual creatures" (Evening Standard), moving, diving, spinning, flirting and wheeling to Mason Bates's amazing score, Anthology of Fantastic Zoology, performed live by English National Ballet Philharmonic.

It''s "a feast for the senses" (The Daily Express).

Swan Lake cancellation

It is with deep sadness that we announce the cancellation of our June season at the Royal Albert Hall due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The Hall will be contacting ticketholders directly to arrange refunds. We will be in touch with anyone who has booked workshops and working stage rehearsals. We thank you for your understanding.

This coming week we will be wrapping up our Wednesday Watch Party series, and are thrilled to be going out on a high note with Christopher Wheeldon''s spectacular Cinderella in-the-round, co-produced in 2019 by Royal Albert Hall and English National Ballet.

We have greatly enjoyed revisiting so many wonderful works in our repertoire and sharing them with long-time friends and with new members of the ENB community alike. We are continuing to work towards new ways of bringing world class ballet to as many people as possible. So stay safe, keep dancing and watch this space!

Cinderella in-the-round

Wednesday Watch Party: 8 July 7pm BST

Welcome the summer with the glorious Cinderella in-the-round by Christopher Wheeldon, filmed at the Royal Albert Hall.

This inventive production fills the grand space of the Royal Albert Hall to tell one of the world's favourite fairy tales. Magnificent sets and costumes, surprising theatrical tricks and lively choreography delight, move and astound, all to the melodious tunes of Prokofiev, performed by English National Ballet Philharmonic. With over 130 dancers working on the production, a live orchestra, and plenty of surprises, this magical ballet is sure to become a favourite.

This performance was filmed in June 2019.

Thank you for joining us over the last few months for our Wednesday Watch Party series.

We hope you enjoyed Cinderella, co-produced by Royal Albert Hall: the in-the-round staging gave us the feeling of being back in the theatre!

As a special post-curtain treat, this coming week we''re sharing with you Cinderella Games, a unique dance film commissioned by us. Read on for more information on the film, and for industry news.

Cinderella Games

Online release Tuesday 14 July, 7pm BST

A ground-breaking film project inspired by Christopher Wheeldon's Cinderella.

Cinderella Games is the third dance film English National Ballet has produced that is directed and choreographed by Jessica Wright and Morgann Runacre-Temple - known collectively as Jess and Morgs.

This original short dance film re-imagines the famous fairy tale with an alternate ending: after the ball the real Cinderella was never found, and instead a sinister game show now exists in which contestants compete for its title.

Shot in the spectacular locations of the Royal Albert Hall and Kempton Steam Museum, Cinderella Games is full of intricate choreography, quirky theatrical performances and dark humour.

To bring it to life, our Engagement Department recruited 35 inter-generational community participants from a range of dance backgrounds to work alongside professional performers Chihiro Kawasaki and Matthew Hawkins.

The short film will premiere at on Tuesday 14 July 7pm BST on Facebook and YouTube and will be available to watch online thereafter.

Five world premieres

The day has arrived! We are thrilled to announce the world premiere release dates for our digital season, a series of five original dance films that will be available to rent via Ballet on Demand, part of our new video platform ENB at Home.

Opening the digital season today on 23 November is Take Five Blues?a high-spirited film choreographed by English National Ballet's own Associate Choreographer?Stina Quagebeur and created in collaboration with filmmaker Shaun James Grant.?Inspired by Nigel Kennedy's takes on Bach's Vivace and Paul Desmond's jazz standard Take Five, the work sees eight dancers play with unexpected rhythms and melodies, feeding off each other's energy.?

This year, we want to raise ?60,000 to extend our dance and health programmes online, helping to alleviate the mental and physical impact of the pandemic on some of our most vulnerable and isolated members of the community.

We aim to achieve a better quality of life and improve their physical and mental well-being by sharing the joy of dancing to live music, socialising and meeting new people through three programmes.

Dancing Well, a new programme for people living with dementia and in care home settings.
Dance for Parkinson''s, our much-loved programme, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year.

Since March, we have enjoyed connecting with you and ballet lovers worldwide via our ENB at Home programme. Over the next two weeks, we will take a short break and dim the lights of our virtual theatre.

But we will be back with two classics from Sir Kenneth MacMillan in June: Song of the Earth on Wednesday 17 June, and Manon on Wednesday 24 June. We are so proud to present these to you.

After leading 40 classes, watched over 1.7 million times on YouTube and Facebook in over 75 countries, Tamara Rojo sends a few words of gratitude and encouragement to everyone who took class with her, as she concludes this series: listen to them here. Her 40 classes are still online for you to continue training.

Summer is almost here and you can count on us to keep you dancing through it: look out for a special Ballet and Fitness programme in July, followed by a Youth Dance Summer Intensive in August. More details will be announced soon.

Song of the Earth by Sir Kenneth MacMillan

Wednesday Watch Party: 17 June 7pm BST

Our Wednesday Watch Party series resumes with a true modern classic. Inspired by Mahler's haunting song cycle Das Lied von der Erde, MacMillan's masterpiece brings music, poetry and choreography together to capture the fragility of life, and its constant renewal. Three central figures portray the bittersweet reality of love, loss, and mortality: a Woman, a Man and an enigmatic Messenger. These roles are performed by ENB Artistic Director and Lead Principal Tamara Rojo, Lead Principal Joseph Caley and Lead Principal Jeffrey Cirio.

First performed in 1965, Song of the Earth was a point of departure for MacMillan's choreography, surprising and captivating audiences and critics. English National Ballet was honoured to add this revered MacMillan work to its repertoire and is delighted to be able to share it again with audiences around the world.

Song of the Earth has an interesting history, and holds a unique place in the ballet canon. Ahead of the Wednesday Watch Party, why not read about the origins of the work on our blog, brush up on Mahler''s magnificent symphony with our Music Director Gavin Sutherland, and hear from Tamara Rojo and Lady Deborah MacMillan in conversation about its continued relevance to artists and audiences today.

This performance was filmed at the Palace Theatre Manchester in October 2017.

ENBYouthCo-nnect Summer Springboard

ENBYouthCo-nnect Creative Director and Dance Artist Jo Meredith will lead our Summer Springboard online youth dance intensive, every Thursday at 2pm-3.30pm from 9 July until 13 August. The 6 weekly sessions of exciting dance are for young people 11-15 years to keep active, build technique and express creativity.

Jo will lead a fun warm-up and delve into choreographies performed by, and created for, English National Ballet, as a springboard for exploring, creating and sharing choreography. Participants will need to download Zoom and will receive a link with a Zoom passcode from English National Ballet to join each week.

Places are limited, sign up early to avoid disappointment. Sign up closes 3 July 2020.

We are very sorry to announce the cancellations of our scheduled performances of Nutcracker and Raymonda at the London Coliseum.

We have been performing a version of Nutcracker every year since 1950. We are glad that, despite the challenges of 2020, we have found a way for this tradition to live on.

In this special production for socially-distanced audiences, over 50 dancers and musicians take you on a whirlwind tour of the classic ballet's most popular moments, with Tchaikovsky's famous score played live.

Online Youth Dance Course - May Half Term

Join ENBYouthCo Creative Director, Choreographer and Dance Artist Richard Bermange for an exciting week of dance for young people aged 14-19!

Throughout the May half-term break, we will stream a 60-minute dance class each week day at 3pm BST on our Facebook and YouTube channels.

In a world where extravagant riches and abject poverty exist side by side, Manon is caught in-between. She falls in love with a penniless student, but is lured into becoming the mistress of a rich gentleman. From giddiness to despair, triumph to regret, this Manon is "searingly powerful" (The Guardian).

"Handsomely staged, meticulously rehearsed and vividly danced" (The Spectator), English National Ballet's production of Kenneth MacMillan's ballet features compelling characters, larger than life scenes and pas de deux ranging from romantic to heartbreaking.

Alina Cojocaru stars in the title role, with Joseph Caley as her true love Des Grieux and Jeffrey Cirio as Manon''s charming but morally dubious brother Lescaut.

The ballet's haunting score, by Jules Massenet, is played live by English National Ballet Philharmonic under the baton of Gavin Sutherland.

This performance was filmed at the Manchester Opera House in October 2018.

Watch Nutcracker Delights Online

As a gift to our audiences, we are releasing a specially filmed performance of Nutcracker Delights?at 2pm GMT on Christmas Eve

Nutcracker Delights will be available to watch for free on our?YouTube?channel?and?Facebook?page, from 2pm GMT on Thursday 24 December, for 30 days.

As London moved?into Tier 4 COVID-19 restrictions with the subsequent cancellation of all scheduled performances of Nutcracker Delights, the Company decided to film a performance of this specially-adapted production. We are delighted to share this recording with our fans around the world as a thank you at the close of our 70th Anniversary year. Nutcracker Delights was filmed at the London Coliseum by Michael Nunn and William Trevitt.

The recording captures the debut performance of new ENB Principal, Natascha Mair. Mair dances the role of Clara alongside Lead Principal Erina Takahashi as the Sugar Plum Fairy, Lead Principal Joseph Caley as the Prince and First Soloist Aitor Arrieta as the Nutcracker.

It's with a heavy heart that we have to confirm cancellation of all of our planned performances of Nutcracker Delights at the London Coliseum. The London Coliseum Box Office will be in touch with ticketholders via email to arrange a refund for your booking or for you to take a credit voucher for next year's full-length Nutcracker.
