U.S. Home Flipping Returns Drop to 8-Year Low in Q2 2019
September 19, 2019

ATTOM's new home flipping report shows that 59,876 U.S. single family homes and condos were flipped in Q2 2019, up 12.4 percent from Q1 2019. The report also shows that homes flipped in Q2 represented 5.9 percent of all home sales, and flipping returns are at the lowest level since Q4 2011. America’s Top ZIPs with Highest Share of Vacant Homes
October 31, 2019

Just in time for Halloween, ATTOM's Q4 2019 Vacancy and Zombie Foreclosure Report shows there were just over 1.5 million U.S. single family homes and condos vacant at the end of 2019. But the vacancy rate in these ZIP codes was far from the national vacancy rate of 1.5 percent. The report also shows the "zombie" foreclosure rate slipped below 3 percent.

ATTOM's Q3 2019 U.S. Home Equity and Underwater Report shows that 14.4 million residential properties were considered equity rich in Q3, representing

Home-Flipping Activity Drops 12.9 Percent in Q3 2019
December 12, 2019

After an unusually lively home flipping market in the spring of this year, the number of single family homes and condos flipped in the third quarter stood out as the largest quarterly and annual drops since Q4 2014. Co-founder and COO of Roc Capital, Maksim Stavinsky, notes that declining flip profits are leading to more interest in renting out renovated properties instead.

Median Home Prices Still Unaffordable for Average Wage Earners
December 19, 2019

According to ATTOM's latest home affordability report, home ownership consumes 32.5 percent of wages in Q4 2019; however, that number is down from a year ago. The report also noted that declining mortgage rates and increasing wages are overcoming rising prices, and home prices are still less affordable than historic averages in 49 percent of local markets.

Home Prices in Almost Half of Opportunity Zones See Annual Increase
February 20, 2020

Today, ATTOM released its third special report analyzing qualified Opportunity Zones established by Congress in the Tax Cuts and Jobs act of 2017. The report found that about half the zones included in the analysis saw median home prices rise more than the national increase of 9.4 percent from Q4 2018 to Q4 2019. Home Equity Levels Improve Across Nation Despite Pandemic

ATTOM''s newly released Q2 2020 U.S. Home Equity and Underwater Report reveals that 15.2 million residential properties were considered equity-rich in Q2, representing 27.5% of the 55.2 million mortgaged homes in the U.S. Among the 50 states, 49 showed an increase in the percent considered equity-rich, while just 3 showed an increase in the percent seriously underwater.

Home Equity Levels Continue to Rise in Q3 2020 as Market Fends Off Coronavirus Pandemic

This special political analysis issued by ATTOM this week looks at various housing metrics in counties with Democrat versus Republican representatives in the U.S. Congress, and shows that average homes in Democrat areas are worth 75% more than those in Republican areas. U.S. Home Flipping Increases To Eight-Year High In 2019
March 5, 2020

ATTOM''s newly released year-end 2019 U.S. Home Flipping Report found that single family homes and condos flipped in 2019 reached the highest point since 2006. Other key findings from the report included flipping returns dropped to 8-year low, financed flips increased to 13-year high, and the percent of flips purchased with all cash increased for the first time since 2010.

More Homes Fall Into Vacant Zombie Foreclosure Realm in Q3 2020

ATTOM''s recently released Vacant Property and Zombie Foreclosure Report reveals that 1.6% of all homes in the U.S. are vacant, numbering 1,570,265 residential properties, with 7,960 or 3.7% of those vacant properties in the process of foreclosure or 'zombie foreclosures.' While the number of properties in foreclosure is down, zombie foreclosures are up from 3% in Q2 2020.

ATTOM Special Report: Housing Markets Most Vulnerable to COVID-19

An ATTOM Special Report recently released spotlights county-level housing markets around the U.S. that are more or less vulnerable to the impact of the Coronavirus pandemic. The report shows that the Northeast has the largest concentration of the most at-risk counties, with clusters in New Jersey and Florida, while the West and Midwest have the smallest.

U.S. Property Taxes Increased to More Than $306 Billion in 2019
April 9, 2020

ATTOM''s new property tax analysis shows that property taxes levied on single family homes in 2019 totaled $306.4 billion, up 1 percent from $304.6 billion in 2018 and an average tax amount of $3,561 per home - an effective tax rate of 1.14 percent. States with the highest effective property tax rates were Illinois, New Jersey, Texas, Vermont and Connecticut.

Home Affordability Increasing Across Majority of U.S. in Q2 2020

ATTOM''s new Q2 2020 U.S. Home Affordability Report shows that median home prices of single family homes and condos are more affordable than historical averages in 49 percent of U.S. counties with enough data to analyze, up from 31 percent a year ago. The Q2 2020 report notes the Coronavirus pandemic has yet to have a major impact on home affordability.

REFIs Comprise Over Half of Home Loans in Q1 2020

ATTOM''s Q1 2020 U.S. Residential Property Mortgage Origination Report shows there were 1.07 million refinance mortgages secured by residential property (1 to 4 units) in the first quarter of 2020. That figure was down 16% from Q4 2019 but up 87% from Q1 2019. With interest rates continuing near all-time lows, REFIs in Q1 2020 represented an estimated $328.5 billion.

U.S. Home Flipping Rate Increases to 14-Year High in Q1 2020
June 11, 2020

ATTOM''s Q1 2020 U.S. Home Flipping Report shows there were 53,705 single-family homes and condos flipped in Q1, representing 7.5% of all home sales, reaching the highest level since Q2 2006. The gross profit on the typical home flip nationwide also increased in Q1 2020 to $62,300, translating to a 36.7% return on investment, sitting at the lowest level since Q3 2011.

Residential REFI Mortgages Make Up Nearly Two-Thirds of Home Loans
August 20, 2020

ATTOM''s Q2 2020 U.S. Residential Property Mortgage Origination Report shows that 1.69 million REFIs secured by residential properties (1 to 4 units) were originated in Q2 2020. That figure was up almost 50% from Q1 2020 and more than 100% from Q2 2019, to the highest level in 7 years. REFI dollar volume was up 130% from Q2 2019, to the highest point in almost 17 years.

U.S. Foreclosure Activity in February 2020 Hits All-Time Low
April 1, 2020

According to ATTOM''s February 2020 U.S. Foreclosure Market Report released this week, the total number of foreclosure filings is at the lowest level since tracking began in April 2005. However, foreclosure starts increased month-over-month in 20 states, including Nevada (up 63%); Oregon (up 49%); Washington (up 47%); Texas (up 28%); and Michigan (up 20%).

Home Affordability Improves for Average U.S. Wage Earners
March 26, 2020

While ATTOM''s Q1 2020 U.S. Home Affordability Report shows that median home prices are unaffordable for average wage earners in 66% of the counties analyzed, that figure is down from 70.4% in Q4 2019 and 69.8% in Q1 2019. The report also shows that owning a median-priced home in Q1 2020 consumes 31.1% of the average wage, down to the lowest since Q4 2017.

Homeowners Remain 4 Times As Likely to Equity Rich Than Underwater
May 7, 2020

ATTOM''s Q1 2020 U.S. Home Equity and Underwater Report shows that 14.5 million residential properties in the U.S. were considered equity-rich in the first quarter of 2020, representing 26.5%, or about 1 in 4, of the 54.7 million mortgaged homes in the U.S. The report also shows that just 3.6 million, or 1 in 15, mortgaged homes in Q1 2020 were considered seriously underwater.
