Dear Eugene,
We are happy to invite you to participate in the DevOps Pulse 2019! Last year over 1000 of you were a part of the DevOps Pulse 2018, providing real insights into how DevOps teams are implementing security best practices, responding to new requirements, and overcoming challenges in the security space.
This year, we are shifting our focus to observability to learn how the software engineering industry defines this term, how they use this strategy to optimize product performance, and what challenges we as an industry still need to tackle to achieve this goal.
The more answers we get, the more accurate the results. So please take a few minutes to answer the questions here, share it with friends, and enter to win a $300 Amazon gift card!
Thanks for your participation.

Hi Eugene,
How do you define observability? More and more, we’ve seen this term used at conferences, in articles and literature, and by various vendors who sell solutions to engineers.
Yet, to many, the term is obscure at best. We’d like to change that with the DevOps Pulse 2019. This year, we’re hoping to learn how the software engineering industry defines observability, what problems they are looking to solve, and which tools and tactics make this vision a reality.
If you haven’t already, please take a few minutes to answer the questions here, share it with peers, and enter to win a $300 Amazon gift card!

Hi Eugene,
Each year, the Logz.io DevOps Pulse assesses the trends and challenges affecting the DevOps community. We want to know which technologies and tools you’re using, which strategies you’re employing, and what challenges you are still facing when trying to achieve your goals.
This year, we are putting a special spotlight on observability, which will produce interesting insights into the goals of observability as well as the tools, tactics, and challenges you experience when trying to gain more insights from your systems.
Examples of questions include:
Which practices/methods do you feel are most critical for achieving observability?
What type of observability tools are you using?
What do you feel are the biggest challenges for achieving complete observability?
Who bears the majority of responsibility for ensuring observability?

Hi Eugene,
We’re proud to announce the release of Log Patterns - our latest advanced analytics tool for faster troubleshooting.
At Logz.io we’re constantly improving our platform. We know that with so much log data coming from your applications, troubleshooting and root cause analysis can be time-consuming and labor-intensive (we feel that too!).
Log Patterns looks for just that - patterns in your log data that you might not have otherwise noticed. We analyze each log message using advanced clustering techniques and then group them into more manageable patterns so you can more quickly cut through all the noise, and identify unusual events vs. those that are recurring or repetitive.
We’ll be building even more advanced features on top of this core technology. Our goal is to make you more effective and productive, helping you to accelerate time to resolution. Try out Log Patterns for free today!

We’re thrilled to share with you that today we have officially launched the first ever Cloud Observability Platform! This is big news for us, and we wanted to explain to you what it means.
We’re passionate about enabling every engineer, in every company to use the best open source observability tools, in an easy to use, scalable and integrated way. We started with Log Management almost five years ago by building an intelligent, fully managed service around the ELK stack. And last year we built an ELK-based cloud security product called Cloud SIEM. As we worked with our customers day in and day out, we started to hear that there was more we could do - specifically, help them manage Grafana for monitoring metrics the same way we do with ELK for logging. Today we proudly announce the beta of Logz.io Infrastructure Monitoring, a Grafana-based monitoring solution that correlates metrics and logs to speed investigative work and time to resolution.
Together Logz.io Log Management, Infrastructure Monitoring, and Cloud SIEM form our Cloud Observability Platform. Powered by both Kibana and Grafana, the Observability Platform makes it easy for engineers to correlate between metrics and logs, providing complete visibility into distributed cloud workloads. In addition, Logz.io’s Cloud Observability Platform features out-of-the-box proactive alerting and advanced machine learning capabilities so engineers can identify and resolve issues and threats faster.
For more information on our announcement take a look at our blog post. If you’re interested in getting early access to Logz.io Infrastructure Monitoring, or want to try out our Log Management or Cloud SIEM products, let us know or sign up for a free trial here! We’re excited to work with you.

Hi Eugene,
After collecting responses from nearly 1000 DevOps Engineers, SysAdmins, Developers, and other IT professionals on observability strategies, technologies, and challenges, the results of this year’s DevOps Pulse are in!
With extensive data on evolving trends in DevOps and the state of observability in 2020 -- this report showcases how engineers today view observability, how it’s achieved, and the barriers we as an industry still need to overcome.
Here’s a sneak peak of what we found:
Tracing has yet to be fully adopted. 66% of DevOps Pulse respondents do not use distributed tracing tools, but Jaeger is the most popular tool among those who have adopted this technology.
Tool sprawl is a significant and widespread issue for software engineers. 63% of DevOps Pulse respondents report using more than one observability tool, while close to 14% use five or more.
Serverless is the biggest technical obstacle to observability. Despite more than 40% of respondents adopting serverless, 47% claim serverless technology presents the most challenges for obtaining observability.
We hope the DevOps Pulse helps you gain a better understanding of where you stand in the DevOps industry with regards to observability. Check out the report here.
If you’re interested in sharing your perspective on the full results, we would love to hear from you. Fill out this very brief survey with your reflection on the full results, and if you are interested, we will share your take on our blog. You will also be entered to win another contest--this time for a $50 Amazon gift card!

Hi Eugene,
After collecting responses from over 1000 DevOps Engineers, SysAdmins, Developers, and other IT professionals, the results of this year's DevOps Pulse are in!
With extensive data on evolving trends in DevOps and the state of cloud-native tech in 2020, this report showcases how engineers today are using emerging open source-based technologies, managing distributed architecture, monitoring their production environment, and so much more.
Here's a sneak peek of what we found:
Many organizations are still transitioning to the cloud-native environment. 50% of respondents have half their applications or more containerized, solidifying containers' maturity. On that note, serverless has also matured; in just one year, adoption has grown by 33%. In contrast, edge computing and service meshes are still emerging technologies.
Engineers increasingly embrace tracing to help monitor their distributed architecture. Tracing solutions have increased in popularity this year. In 2019, 19% of respondents had adopted distributed tracing solutions, but in this year's survey, the number rose to 26%. In addition, 68% of respondents say that distributed tracing plays an important role in their observability strategy. Among those who have not yet implemented distributed tracing, 64% plan to implement it in the next two years.
The most common difficulties running Kubernetes are monitoring and troubleshooting (44%). Other problematic areas include security (35%), networking (34%), and cluster management (30%).
We hope the DevOps Pulse helps you gain a better understanding of where you stand in comparison to your peers with regards to the maturity of your cloud-native approach.
