This week, we''re talking about money. More specifically, getting money to help your money-makers make more money. (Now try to say that really fast.)
In a rich man''s world...
"As 360Learning's 1-woman sales enablement team, I onboard and train every salesperson joining our team - BDRs, Account Executives, and Account Managers. I've been doing this remotely for a while now and I'd like to share my experience with you." - Head of Global Sales Enablement at 360Learning
- 3 Biggest Challenges of Remote Sales Training and How to Overcome Them
If I had a little money...
"L&D teams need to demonstrate their value as a strategic partner and to document their learning impact. That way, you can convince managers that you can help them achieve business goals and that you're worth listening to. It's about what we can do collectively to demonstrate our impact." - Senior Trainer & Instructional Designer at Fulton County Government
- How to Get Training Budget and Exec Buy-in for L&D Projects
To pay the bills I have to pay...
"In the current business climate, where every dollar spent needs to be justified, proving ROI on your internal training programs is more important than ever. It's not enough to show that your program is helping employees learn new skills; you need to prove that it's having a positive effect on the company's bottom line." - Head of Operations at 360Learning
- 3 Data-Based Ways To Prove Training ROI (+ Free Training ROI Calculator)
In my dreams, I have a plan...

Hey there,
To say the world has changed a lot in 2020 would be an understatement.
Now, with the second round of lockdown coming into effect in Europe, Disneyland going remote, the US elections, and Pfizer announcing a potential vaccine, the future has never felt quite so uncertain.
Most CFOs and finance teams will prepare for uncertainties by tightening budgets for the next year, when the opposite is what you need. So now more than ever, you need to defend your training budget. How can you make sure you have enough resources to equip and train your teams to meet all the challenges 2021 has in store? Our CEO has prepared a few arguments for you.
Happy learning!

Hey there,
If you've ever had a terrible manager, you know firsthand its harsh effect on employee morale.
Great managers fuel loyalty, whereas employees who hate their manager are four times more likely to leave.
That's why effective manager training is so important.
But most existing training does nothing to teach the advanced organizational and interpersonal skills managers need to succeed. Since COVID struck, and the problem has gone from bad to worse. The rapid change to remote work creates a host of new challenges for managers who may never have received proper management training to begin with.
This affects everybody's mental health and leads to employee burnout. For sales teams, in particular, you need to invest in coaching the coaches, to make sure your sales training has a lasting impact.
🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓
Your Manager Training Wasn't Working Before-Now It's Really in Trouble
Despite the significant impact, many organizations overlook or completely neglect manager training.
A study by Wakefield Research shows that a stunning 98% of managers feel they would benefit from more or better training. Most new managers don't receive any leadership training during their first decade of supervising other people.

How to create a lasting impact with your sales training, according to Google
The best sales training is a process of continuous improvement. As Brendan explains, this doesn't just apply to the sales reps - it's also about coaching your sales coaches.
"At Google, we're investing heavily in helping our managers to be great coaches," says Brendan. "Our first step here is to be very blunt about the role managers play. Sometimes, sales managers see themselves as being there to move deals through, allocate resources, and manage the portfolio. These are important tasks, but we're asking people for more than that."

Hey there,
Scaling an onboarding process is one of the hardest things to get right in L&D. When your company is growing at pace, you need to make sure your onboarding offers every new starter the tools and training they need to ramp up quickly.
We''ve got a great case study with the Learning & Development Lead at Better.com this week. She had to train a lot of people really quickly - and now remotely, thanks to COVID19.
Of course, as you all know, your job doesn''t stop once your new hires are fully onboarded. Because your team needs continuous training and learning. The latest lesson of our Google MasterSaaS covers just that.
And none of this onboarding and continuous learning would work if you don''t have a solid employee training program in place. So we''ve got an ultimate guide for you this week as well.
Lastly, I''d like to share a webinar I discovered from Venngage, the online graphics maker, about designing for accessibility and inclusivity. Definitely check it out if you work in employer branding or communications in general.
Better.com''s Onboarding Process for Growing From 350 to 3,000 Employees
Since Emma joined Better.com two years ago, the company has grown at an incredible rate.
"When I started at Better two years ago, we were about 350 people," says Emma. "Now, we're 3,000 globally. A lot of this hypergrowth has been in the last six to twelve months, and it's showing no signs of slowing down. It's taught me a lot."

How to build a culture of continuous learning, according to Google
"It's tempting for senior employees to think of training as something just for junior employees," says Brendan. "If you've been in the industry for a long time, you might think you know all there is to know. But your managers and senior leadership hierarchy have a critical role to play in creating a culture of continuous learning."
"If employees get a sense that they're sent off to training and it'll never be talked about again, they'll quickly understand that it's something for them alone," says Brendan. "But if you make it clear your learning culture is going to be reinforced every day at every level, including by senior employees, you'll create a real commitment to continuous learning."

The Ultimate Guide to Starting a Successful Employee Training Program
A worldwide survey of CEOs found that 80% are worried about the availability of key skills, and more than half struggle to find competent new hires.
Employee training programs and, by extension, Learning and Development departments are powerful tools in hiring, retaining, and retraining employees.
Launching a new training program isn't as simple as ordering some courses and mandating employee attendance. Companies that enthusiastically barrel forward without the proper planning often suffer from misaligned business goals, overwhelmed L&D departments, and a lack of C-suite buy-in. Any of these could sink your training program as soon as it starts.
Here's what you need to know to get started.\

Designing for Accessibility: How To Be An Inclusive Employer and Reach Bigger External Audiences
There''s a popular phrase about diversity and inclusion making its social media rounds recently:
Diversity is being invited to the party; Inclusion is being asked to dance.
While this sentence is helpful for distinguishing the difference between the two terms, it is also an oversimplification of complex ideas and doesn''t authentically represent what inclusion really could be.
As Daniel Juday says, "To put it into corporate terms, this phrase only really indicates that organizational diversity and inclusion is, at its best, those with leadership influence deigning to include others in their circles for brief moments, usually in celebrative ways rather than strategic ones."
One way to change that is through inclusive design. Inclusivity means more than just offering to make adjustments. You should be proactively thinking about accessibility.

We all spent most of this year canceling plans, events, trips, pivoting strategies.
At 360Learning, we even created the #GetReady campaign in April for "post-COVID" and look where we are today, still in the midst of the first wave. (Apparently.)
It begs the question: Is it still worth it to make plans for 2020?
My answer: ...maybe not.
As all our existing processes and strategies are being called into question, now might be a better time to reflect. And experiment.
It''s not just me saying it. All of the L&D leaders we interviewed are testing and reflecting on new ways to train and learn.
So that's what we're talking about today. New ways to think about things.
Think of knowledge like money
Have you heard of that quote "Knowledge is like money: to be of value it must circulate, and in circulating it can increase in quantity and, hopefully, in value"?
As it turns out, not sharing knowledge really does cost you money.
"The workforce is currently experiencing a silver tsunami as baby boomers retire and leave the workforce. As baby boomers leave the workforce, they are taking decades of institutional knowledge with them. ...By extrapolating that number over the course of a year, Panopto calculates that the average small business of under 1,000 employees will lose $2.4 million in productivity due to insufficient knowledge sharing."
- Why Not Sharing Institutional Knowledge is Costing Your Company Money
Think of learning as an experience
In L&D, there's always the pressure to demonstrate progress as quickly as possible.
But as Gauresh points out, great learning experiences take time and patience to get right.
"Learning doesn't happen immediately," says Gauresh. "What you gain during training is the knowledge part. Then, it takes time to develop that technical or leadership competency in the real world. But when the right opportunity arises, your people will be able to utilize that knowledge to make the most of it."
- How to Create a Great Employee Learning Experience
Think of COVID-19 as an opportunity
The COVID pandemic has had severe implications for businesses around the world.
However, it has also created the drive for people to switch to virtual training.
"Everybody preferred face-to-face learning before, but we have to find more effective ways to do it, like with virtual learning," says Kristi. "We wouldn't have had that mandate before, so we should lean into the opportunities for change that this time is bringing us."
- How a New L&D Leader Adapts to Virtual Training and Onboarding
Speaking of COVID-19
I highly recommend this Work From Home guide - it's the most comprehensive remote working resource I''ve seen. It's also written with a sense of humor. My favorite:
"Don't sweat the sweatpants
Don't enforce office-specific rules for the sake of enforcing them. Remember that it's all about the amazing things your team is doing, not what they're wearing."
Speaking of humor
We're hosting a live workshop with PandaDoc on How to create impactful sales training with humor (and empathy and collaboration) in 2 weeks. First time for us to focus on such a fun topic. I think it's gonna be really special. Hope to see you there.

The holiday season is here, and many of us are home alone, watching Home Alone.
Most of us are working at home alone. Or working alone, as a team of one.
Working alone is no fun.
If you're an L&D team of one, you need to gather feedback for your courses from your learners, and focus your time on areas that generate the greatest return, like improving sales performance.
You also need to get quick wins by focusing on performance learning to get everybody to start believing in you.
Even if you're not a team of one, working from home alone still requires some specific remote management strategies.
This week, we want everyone to feel less alone. Wherever you are, we''ve got you covered.

We spend a lot of time exchanging with fellow L&D professionals. Lately, many of them describe feeling completely lost at sea.
After all the disruptions and uncertainty of 2020, most L&D teams feel overwhelmed and under-resourced to live up to their boss's expectations - and their own.
And that's completely understandable. Their challenges are sobering. L&D teams are expected to train a multigenerational workforce, improve diversity at the workplace, help employees adapt to whatever COVID19 or social and technological disruptions throw at us. Often with a small team and limited budget.
This week, we'll break down the three biggest training challenges holding back even the most talented L&D teams, and offer some solutions - and hopefully, relief - before the holiday season.

Hey there,
This week, we're covering 4 hot topics that often come up in our conversations with people development teams around sales, diversity, performance, and wellness.
And we brought in experts that can provide alternative solutions to these common challenges.
I really hope you''ll find them helpful. Read on to see if any of these speaks to you:
For many, creating sales training course content is a painful process.
You may look for third-party off-the-shelf content, in which case you're paying a lot for generic content that will soon be out of date. Alternatively, you could spend many stressful hours creating the content yourselves. Neither option is that appealing or effective.
Fortunately, according to the Head of Sales Training at Google, there's a third option that's not painful or costly.

If you're in HR or L&D, your goal should be to empower everyone in your organization to succeed on their own terms.
Unfortunately, despite all the talk about gender equality in the workplace, there are still stubborn gaps in leadership and C-suite gender representation around the world. And the numbers haven''t improved a whole lot in recent years.
This is a complex and frustrating puzzle, and one with a long history. Addressing the gender gap in executive representation takes effort, understanding, and above all else, the right resources and support. It also requires honest and inclusive conversations.
Learning specialist and author, Jodi Leffingwell, offers some concrete steps in our latest exclusive interview.
- How Can Your Company Support Gender Equality in the Workplace?

There are many benefits associated with conducting regular performance reviews. In fact, performance reviews or performance appraisals are one of the most underused and misunderstood management tools available.
This is especially true as often, neither the manager nor the employee seems motivated to have the review! But the truth is, that performance reviews are probably more important than you might think. They also don't need to be difficult to do (especially once you've got the right performance review templates in place).
Our friends at HR Partner offers some very convincing reasons why you should take performance reviews seriously, plus a few free templates.

"Technology and remote working changed the way employee wellness works. Depending on your company makeup, your employee wellness program was designed to live within large offices and top-down structures.
Simply put, Karen in HR is no longer capable of managing a more dispersed and diverse team.
Most People Teams haven't evolved with their staff makeup - Marketing, Sales, and every other aspect of today's tech company only interact with their respective team and most of the time on a remote basis. They are discrete departments, where "keeping the pulse" of your team is not possible."
LEON is offering a new way of looking at this increasingly hot topic of employee wellness. They''ve coined a new term: wellness intelligence.
- Save the employee. Save the world.
And that''s it for this week!

Hey there,
Right now, we may feel like we can no longer rely on certain structures and authorities the way we used to.
This might be an intense time, but it may be emphasizing ways of living that are no longer sustainable. This includes the way we work, train, and learn.
Ask yourself, am I holding on to routines or practices that have outlived their time?
At 360Learning, we're looking back at outdated learning methods, like blended learning, and moving forward into the next phase of LMS and eLearning.
While a lot of things are out of our control, improving the way we learn and develop our team and ourselves isn''t.
Happy learning!
🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓
Blended Learning Is Dying. To Save It, We Must Change What it Means.
Today's learners expect more collaboration, personalization, and flexibility than top-down training can provide, regardless of whether it's in person or online. We should be more worried about whether our learning content is engaging and digestible, and less concerned with the distinction between in-person and online training.
Top-down is out, collaboration is in
-----------------------------
Why Collaborative Learning is the Next Phase of LMS eLearning
Although we've come a long way from the early slow-moving dinosaurs of LMS history, many LMSs still fall short of their promise of helping employees learn. The core problem is that almost all LMSs focus primarily on administrators, not learners.
As teams move toward more communication and collaborative work, why are we still learning by ourselves?
It''s time to evolve

Hey there,
Fun fact: over 70% of our clients are new or recently promoted L&D leaders.
Succeeding as an L&D leader is all about making the right choices. You have to choose the right internal processes, choose the right learning software, and above all else, choose different learning methods that match your company's needs. If you've just started your role, that's even tougher.
That's what this week's posts are all about - helping you succeed as a (new) L&D leader.

Do you need an LMS, an LXP, a Talent Suite, or a Learning Platform?
"These learning software acronyms are hell.
After I founded 360Learning in 2013, I spent two years immersed in the learning market. I ran the company, pitched two separate funding rounds, signed 100 customers, and still, struggled to understand what acronyms like LMS and SCORM meant for a long time." - Nick Hernandez, CEO at 360Learning

Self-Directed Learning is Here to Stay, and it's up to L&D to Make it Work
"Self-directed learning is the future of workplace training, and that's a good thing: it's decentralized, flexible, and a good fit for our new digital normal.
But leaving learners to fend for themselves in a sea of training content is a recipe for failure, both for the employee and for the organization. To make self-directed learning work, L&D must support it with the right tools, culture, and systems." - Jonah Goldstein, Head of Learning at 360Learning

A global pandemic and a worldwide recession have completely upset everyone's carefully laid plans. Every business on earth, from the smallest startup to the biggest conglomerate, now has to regroup. We're all feeling the stress, not just on a business level but on a personal one, too, as anxiety and isolation become part of the new normal.
So how do you help employees cope when the entire world has been upended? How do you help them get ready?"Managers need to be coaches, mentors, and guides. We're asking them to play additional roles in the crisis, such as being a resource or a guide for psychological safety, or checking in to see how our staff members' families are doing," says Lenn Moorhead-Rosenberg, Talent Development Director of WinCo Foods, on How to Support Frontline Employees in Times of Crisis
On making your remote learners feel less alone
Online training has a lot of great benefits and one major disadvantage: It can be very isolating. Imagine a room full of employees, each watching the same training video alone at their desks. Then they take a quiz to measure retention, move on with their day, and never engage with the material again. Is it cost-effective? Sure. Is it convenient? Definitely. But is it conducive to productive learning? Not really. But there is a solution. We need to bring collaboration and human interaction back to the online learning environment.
On making your sales teams feel less alone
When you think of a career in sales, collaboration probably isn't the first thing that comes to mind. In fact, you may think the exact opposite - and you wouldn't be alone. Movies like The Wolf of Wall Street perpetuate the idea that sales is a cutthroat job, but it doesn't have to be that way. Here''s Why You Should Transform Your Sales Training with Collaborative Learning
"It makes me really angry that I've been saying these things for 52 years."

Hey there,
A lot of popular training methods sound great on paper but fail to deliver on their promises. The article from our CEO this week talks about just that - popular employee training methods that fall flat, and some of the better approaches, like peer training.
One of the most common questions we hear from L&D leaders is how to generate enthusiasm for teams to commit to training activities.
But some companies have the opposite problem: what do you do when the demand for learning exceeds supply?
We interviewed the Director of L&D at Harry's and she had a lot of great tips for keeping even the most enthusiastic self-directed learners engaged and stimulated.

It's the end of a long, stressful week.
Finally, time to unwind and relax!
You microwave your popcorn (or yesterday's turkey), pour a glass of wine, and settle in on the couch to turn on ... a tutorial on video editing?
Seems unlikely, right?

There''s just one, tiny problem. It doesn''t work.
There are better ways to change the way your teams feel about L&D. With better alignment, better processes, or more collaborative tools.

Hey there,
Not sure if you''ve heard, but we''re back in lockdown in France.
For someone who''s actively recruiting like myself, this is not the most exciting news. It''s stressful enough being a new manager building a new team, even more so doing it virtually.
Luckily, we''ve been publishing resources for (remote) onboarding over the last weeks. And if you''re only going to read ONE post, here''s an Everything You Need to Know guide.
And if you''re not just onboarding new employees but new companies (like an M&A), you might find this interview worthwhile. If you''re an L&D joining a new company, check out this interview for some inspirations for your first 30,60,90 days of virtual onboarding.

I''ve always been super impressed by the quality of the classes on MasterClass.com.
Superb production quality. World-class teachers. Exclusive content you can''t find anywhere else.
We thought, wouldn''t it be great if someone created a SaaS version of MasterClass?
So, we did.
Paying homage to MasterClass.com who first introduced beautifully edited masterclasses from the best of the world, we''ve created MasterSaaS, a SaaS Masterclass, with Google''s Head of Sales Training, Brendan McGeever.
Like MasterClass, we''ve found the most qualified person we know to teach this topic on sales training, with high-quality production and editing that aim to provide you with the best learning experience possible. Unlike MasterClass, our MasterSaaS is 100% free.
Over the next 5 weeks, we'll share Brendan''s tried-and-tested, never-shared-before tips and tactics Google uses to train their 4,000 sales all over the world.
Every week, we'll publish one episode of the Sales Training MasterSaaS on our blog, covering a different sales training topic each week.
Check out the first episode and topics for the upcoming weeks here. Share it with people who'd love this. (We''re also on Product Hunt today.)
Also, I've noticed not many of you know about the feedback section we have on the blog. You can leave a reaction or comment to let Nicolas know what you think below the post, like this:

Not gonna lie.
When I first started working at 360Learning, it took me quite some time to figure out all these acronyms: LMS, TMS, LXP, LEP...
They are super confusing and makes it that much harder to know which one is right for you.
So this post is actually a selfish post for myself. Thought it might be helpful for some of you too.
Here's everything you need to know about LMSs before picking the best one for your needs.

Culture fit is a familiar term for most of us working in people development teams, be it HR or Learning and Development.
We've been told hiring for culture fit ensures higher performance and lower employee turnover.
But how often have you been able to objectively lay down what that "culture fit" means for your team?
When this isn't clear, it's just a pretty word for unconscious bias. Often, this bias reinforces the status quo, including systemic racism or white supremacy. More HR leaders are realizing the problem. Here's what they suggest we do instead.
That''s it for this week!

This week we're talking about The Office. Not any office. The Office. More specifically, we're talking about Toby. And why you might have a Toby problem you don't know about.
Toby is someone we love to hate. (If you've never heard of The Office, Toby is this HR guy everybody hates.)
In L&D and HR, the Toby Flenderson approach is something we see a lot of companies struggling to overcome. We stick to the same old approach to corporate training. The problem? It''s ineffective and - again - despised by everyone in the company.
It begs the question: How do you avoid being a Toby?

A lot of people, myself included, celebrated the end of 2020 in the hopes that 2021 will bring a fresh start, free of COVID19 restrictions, lockdowns, and all the madness that made up 2020.
6 days into 2021, mayhem at the US Capitol.
And while we're transfixed by the spectacle of the Capitol under siege, the coronavirus continued to sweep across the United States and the rest of the world.
If 2020 has taught us anything, it is that we can't move forward as a divided country.
That's true for politics, for fighting COVID19, or for any business challenges.
For the new year, whether we're evaluating a new learning platform for our team; revamping our learning process, framework, models, and vocabulary;
or looking for a more cost-effective way to scale our onboarding and training; we'll need more collaboration and solidarity.
The only way forward is together.
