Extremely hot weather is forecast for Thursday 25th July, and speed restrictions will be introduced across the rail network. Metal rails in direct sunshine can exceed 50°C, and Network Rail need to introduce speed restrictions to reduce the chance of rails buckling in the heat.

We will be running significantly fewer services on Thursday, and many trains will be much busier than usual. Those trains that do run will take longer to complete their journeys – particularly on longer-distance routes.

Our online journey planners will be updated on Wednesday 24th July with the detail of which trains will be running. We strongly advise passengers to avoid travelling, or re-time your journey to when trains are less busy - which we’re expecting to be off-peak, before midday.

If you’re planning to travel with us on Thursday, please allow extra time for your journey and check before you travel to make sure your train is running.

Passengers travelling in hot weather are advised to carry a bottle of water with them, and not to board a train if you feel unwell.

We’re planning to run our normal timetable on Friday 26th July, when temperatures are forecast to have fallen.

Southeastern has today introduced an improved compensation scheme for passengers experiencing delays to their journeys.

’Delay Repay 15’ will mean passengers delayed by 15 minutes or more will be able to claim money back to compensate them for their delay whereas until now, compensation had only applied for delays of 30 minutes or more.

We have also made changes to the process so it’s now quicker and easier to claim online.

Engineering work is being carried out at Ashford International station from Wednesday 25 December to Sunday 29 December 2019.

This work is part of a £1.25bn investment to improve journeys for passengers on the Kent network. The work will involve replacing track, improving drainage, upgrades to points and other works which will improve journeys for passengers travelling on this part of the Kent network. There’s never an ideal time to impact our passengers’ journeys, but by working at weekends and during holidays, Network Rail can minimise the disruption.

Please plan ahead and check your journey via our journey planner, National Rail, or the Southeastern On Track app.

The work will impact some Southeastern services, there will also be no high speed or Eurostar services calling at Ashford International.

• There will be no Southeastern services between Canterbury West, Ashford International and Ebbsfleet International.

• Southeastern services via Tonbridge and Maidstone East will run, as will Southern services to Eastbourne.

• Replacement buses will run between Ashford International and Ebbsfleet International, and Ashford International and Canterbury West.

• Passengers travelling to London via Ashford International should use mainline services, which will take around 45 minutes longer than the usual high speed trains.

Tuesday 24 December
• A normal weekday service will run until early afternoon on Christmas Eve, and some evening peak services will leave London terminals earlier than usual.
• Train services will stop running around 10pm.

Wednesday 25 and Thursday 26 December
• No train services will run on Christmas Day or Boxing Day.

Friday 27 December to Sunday 29 December
• We will run a Saturday train service, with no high speed service between Ashford International and Ebbsfleet International on Friday 27 December, with some routes closed entirely and many journeys taking longer than usual.
• A half-hourly replacement bus service will run between Ashford International and Ebbsfleet International, and a half-hourly high speed shuttle will run between Ebbsfleet International, Stratford International and St Pancras International.
• Hourly high speed services will run from Faversham and Ramsgate to St Pancras International via Ebbsfleet International.
• Rail replacement buses will run between Ashford International and Canterbury West, calling at all stations.
• An hourly shuttle will run between Canterbury West and Margate.
• We will run longer trains on mainline services via Tonbridge.
• Passengers travelling to London from Ramsgate should use high speed services via Faversham.
• Passengers travelling to London from Canterbury should travel from Canterbury East, and can change at Faversham for high speed services.
• If you're travelling from Sandwich to London via Folkestone and Dover, you can use mainline services to Charing Cross.

Hi Logan,

Very high winds in the South East of England are expected to disrupt rail services tomorrow (Saturday 2nd November), especially in coastal areas.

To ensure that our trains and passengers can travel safely, Network Rail will impose a speed restriction on some routes from around 09:00. The speed restriction will have the greatest effect on Southeastern services in Kent and East Sussex, and many trains will take longer than usual to complete their journeys. Our mainline and Highspeed services will be most affected.

To provide a more reliable service, we will reduce the frequency of trains on some routes and change the stopping patterns on others. This will affect services across the Southeastern network.

The detail of these timetable changes will be available on the Southeastern journey planner from this evening (Friday 1st November). If you’re planning to travel on Saturday, you should check before they travel.

As temperatures drop and nights draw in, so too come cosy evenings by the fire and the twinkling of festive lights in trees and windows across the country. But as we head further into the season and the weather takes a turn, problems can arise across the rail network.

When the mercury plummets, even the lightest shower of rain or dusting of snow can freeze and become compacted on the rails, insulating the electric rail and preventing trains from drawing power or being able to move with any speed. And in the worst cases, it prevents them from being able to move at all. Snow and ice also causes points - which allow trains to move between tracks - to freeze solid, or get jammed with compacted snow. When this happens, trains can’t safely run over them.

We know you’ve got places to go this winter, and together with Network Rail we’re on the case to get you there:

To try to keep disruptions to your journeys to a minimum, we may have to make some changes to our timetables when bad weather hits. Some services will be less frequent, and some stations may close, but this allows us to complete all the work needed to keep you moving, albeit a little slower than usual to keep you and our staff as safe as possible.

From 15 December, the Southeastern timetable will be changing. Please check before you travel, as your train time may be different from this date.

The changes we have made will see shorter journey times on many of our Highspeed services, shorter journey times on many of our Mainline services, and better connections into London for many of passengers across the network.

There will also be a small increase in journey time on some of our metro services, in most cases of no more than one minute, to allow trains serving the Greater London area to call for longer at some stations.

Engineering work is being carried out at Ashford International station from Wednesday 25 December to Sunday 29 December 2019.

This work is part of a £1.25bn investment to improve journeys for passengers on the Kent network. The work will involve replacing track, improving drainage, upgrades to points and other works which will improve journeys for passengers travelling on this part of the Kent network. There’s never an ideal time to impact our passengers’ journeys, but by working at weekends and during holidays, Network Rail can minimise the disruption.

Please plan ahead and check your journey via our journey planner, National Rail, or the Southeastern On Track app.

The work will impact some Southeastern services, there will also be no high speed or Eurostar services calling at Ashford International.

• There will be no Southeastern services between Canterbury West, Ashford International and Ebbsfleet International.

• Southeastern services via Tonbridge and Maidstone East will run, as will Southern services to Eastbourne.

• Replacement buses will run between Ashford International and Ebbsfleet International, and Ashford International and Canterbury West.

• Passengers travelling to London via Ashford International should use mainline services, which will take around 45 minutes longer than the usual high speed trains.

Tuesday 24 December
• A normal weekday service will run until early afternoon on Christmas Eve, and some evening peak services will leave London terminals earlier than usual.
• Train services will stop running around 10pm.

Wednesday 25 and Thursday 26 December
• No train services will run on Christmas Day or Boxing Day.

Friday 27 December to Sunday 29 December
• We will run a Saturday train service, with no high speed service between Ashford International and Ebbsfleet International on Friday 27 December, with some routes closed entirely and many journeys taking longer than usual.
• A half-hourly replacement bus service will run between Ashford International and Ebbsfleet International, and a half-hourly high speed shuttle will run between Ebbsfleet International, Stratford International and St Pancras International.
• Hourly high speed services will run from Faversham and Ramsgate to St Pancras International via Ebbsfleet International.
• Rail replacement buses will run between Ashford International and Canterbury West, calling at all stations.
• An hourly shuttle will run between Canterbury West and Margate.
• We will run longer trains on mainline services via Tonbridge.
• Passengers travelling to London from Ramsgate should use high speed services via Faversham.
• Passengers travelling to London from Canterbury should travel from Canterbury East, and can change at Faversham for high speed services.
• If you're travelling from Sandwich to London via Folkestone and Dover, you can use mainline services to Charing Cross.

Urgent repairs to the railway at New Cross

On Monday night, Network Rail discovered a cracked rail in the New Cross area which needed to be repaired urgently. This meant that we were temporarily unable to run trains into Waterloo East or Charing Cross, with trains diverted to other stations wherever possible. Trains on other routes, particularly those to Cannon Street, were extremely busy and we’re sorry that many of you had an uncomfortable journey this morning.

Although Network Rail were able to make a temporary repair to the track so that trains could run throughout the day, they need to make further repairs overnight tonight, and it won’t be possible to run the same number of trains during the evening peak period. This means that there will be some changes and possible disruption to services, although we’ll be doing all we can to keep this to a minimum.

If you normally travel to and from Charing Cross, please check before you travel this evening, by checking the Southeastern website, National Rail Enquiries, or by following our Twitter feed at @Se_Railway.

Trains that normally run between Charing Cross and Ramsgate/Dover Priory will be diverted to and from London Victoria.

Use the Underground to Victoria at no extra cost.

There will be a reduced service via Tunbridge Wells and cancellations to Metro services.

Trains will be busier than normal.
